The Grand Finale, con't

Monday, yesterday. I set the groceries back on my porch, very visible and with the original requesting note attached. Again by-passed, left right there. The carrier who left the note comes by here 6 days a week and did on Monday, same as Saturday. I called the place where I knew the groceries would most likely go first from here. Person answering phone was very gracious and well-spoken. I explained to person what had happened and asked if I could drop off groceries there. Person paused very briefly but replied that the drive was over on Saturday (yeah) and that with groceries pick-up and other people dropping them off there they really did not want to accept any more there, and they had to call next place in line to bring trucks and start moving groceries out. Person stopped short of telling me to just keep them, not really needed at this point., However, person said carrier could be notified from there to get the groceries on Tuesday and took my address. This morning I repeated Saturday and Monday routine and put them back on my porch. Lo and behold, they were picked-up today Tuesday.

efbgen, rachylou, and Style Fan, Thank you for posting. I am going to try to get the groceries picked-up tomorrow. I will post again later in the week after I get some things sorted. I had a lovely Mothers Day. My sons took me to a fun Mexican restaurant. I wore white long jeans, a two tone lighter blue denim dress as a duster, white loafers, and a contemporary red handbag, with a large gold ring for handle, mixed metal bracelets, rose gold, gold and pearl and topped it all off with a sequined blush fedora. I chose what I wore before I knew where we were going, but once we entered the restaurant I felt very appropriately dressed and in sync with the vibe of the restaurant.

I like efbgen's advice regarding what happened at the doctor's office. I worked for many years in a hospital and learned to document everything. So now when I go to see my doctor I go in with a notebook with my documentation.
And try again with the groceries. Who knows who was picking them up. Or donate them to another food bank.

So the first thing I’d do is go check the Mercury retrograde tables for my ongoing testing of astrology... it’s not btw... lol.

I’d try again with the groceries... I presume they won’t spoil...

Cindy, please forgive me if you did not intend your post to be funny. Ironic your post is first one and just what I need to start getting over the bad mood.

It did not occur to me to eat the groceries! Probably not for the reasons you would think. But I could easily have a spaghetti dinner party for 20! When can you come?

First of all I no longer cook. Been there, done that. I live alone, and more often than not my dinner is taken care of and if for any reason it is not I have a call checking if I have food for dinner. And I do, because I shop and keep healthy food on hand, albeit, smaller quanities. I know the family members would not accept it either. Our family is complicated, but guess that is true in all families.

You are not a petty person! You are marvelous and very inspiring member on this forum. I do not post as much as I should but read a lot and I agree with others on the valuable contributions you make to this forum.

Common courtesy seems to be in decline. Sorry to say
I hear you on businesses (service or medical) dropping the ball. Here is how we handle it and ask you to consider similar action even though you are totally frustrated- and rightfully so.

I worked for years in a doctors office. My strong suggestion is that you document as to date and times you left messages at doctors. Then next time you see your doctor for an appointment- hand it to doctor directly and tell him/her next time it might be someone with a life threatening problem that the staff dropped the ball on. If he/she is a good doctor- heads will roll.
On other services- document in a letter and indicate how disappointed you are in customer service and are thinking of changing (even if you are not). That gets their attention and sometimes insurance will do a review and drop premiums by a few dollars to smooth ruffled feathers.

As for the food pantry items- I would not punish the poor and hungry because someone dropped the ball. Call them on Monday and ask for a special pick up. sometimes the volunteers are doing it in a half hearted way because they are doing required community service (putting in time but not effort- i see it all the time in groups I volunteer for)
Finally- Have a wonderful Mother's Day with your family - love makes problems go away for the short term. Hugs

I would have eaten the groceries, but I'm petty. Giving the groceries to family members who will use them to benefit others is a practical solution and would probably be what my a.a. sponsor recommended I do instead of being petty.

O.K. I am going to do exactly what I try to avoid. I usually take care of mistakes without being irritated or mentioning it to anyone except someone involved to help me correct a mistake. But, today, something un-related happened that is the proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back.

Earlier in the week and also in the past my auto insurance company has been making some serious errors on my billing. Also, this week I had a Dr's appointment on Monday and was told I would hear from them that afternoon or next day. I did not, so on Wednesday I called and was told to leave a message and call would be returned. I left message, but call was not returned. Exact same thing happened on Thursday. I put both on hold and will deal with them Monday. So I am not expecting any comments concerning these two incidents. Bear with me. Thanks. :)

In the meantime I was left a note asking me to donate boxed and canned food that would be picked up and distributed to needy families. Good, that was something that very much interested me and was a distraction from the above mentioned irritations. I put real effort into it, shopping at two different groceries where I could get quality and on sale, so felt like I was able to donate twice as much. I packed it neatly into a good cloth bag, put the note requesting it on top and left in a very visible place on my front porch. A little later I went to my front door, and the person who I expected to collect the bag was sitting in front of my place, then shortly pulled away. Oh, good, my donation has been picked-up. I stepped on porch to check for sure, and no, it was still there! My almost four year old great granddaughter and her grandfather had just come by, we were chatting and my great-granddaughter said, grandma, your hair is a mess. She was right!

We were still on my porch and I noticed the person I thought was to pick-up bag had turned around and coming back up my street. So, I started waving and trying to get their attention and give them the bag. Could not get attention. (I am purposefully not using his/her. Had rather not specify gender. Just a quirk of mine.)

Now, to the point. I had thought I would keep the bag until Monday and hopefully I could somehow make connection and get this bag picked up by requesting party. I am expecting family tomorrow in honor of mother's day. I will not be mentioning any of this gripey stuff to them! However I am thinking of giving the groceries to them. They are involved in different ways in helping needy people, and would make the donation of it somewhere it was needed.

So, and this is silly I know, but writing it has eased the edginess I was feeling this P M. I do not want any sympathy or advice, but I would like your vote on what you would do, if you were in this situation.

Thank you. Love to all of you and have a blessed Mother's Day.

!
