IMO Ebay has its pluses and minuses.
Pluses: great chance to seek out unusual one off rare little items, no need to spend hours trailing the malls, much more stressfree shopping rather than battling with the crowds and being overwhelmed with all the mass of cheap stuff in the shops (can;t see the wood for the trees kinda thing). Also, it is possible sometimes to pick up bargains and get cheap little gems at far less than RRP.

Minuses: obvious ones like can;t check it fits first, colours in photos often turn out quite different in real life, a few fakes and bogus sellers out there. It's not marks and sparks so you can;t just return it the next day for a full refund.

All in all, i personally think the advantges of ebay far outway the disadvantages. Even if you do make a few mistakes, like it doesn;t quite fit afterall or something, then that is what ebay is all about and hopefully it was quite cheap in the first place or else you wouldn;t have risked it, and also the mistakes should be outweighed by the fab one off bargains you've managed to win over time. Besides, if it's that bad, you can always re sell it on ebay and sometimes get more back than you bought it for yourself!

I've been able to get some great deals on items that people have purchased and worn maybe once, but can no longer return to the retail outlet where they were purchased.

Generally, I stick to brands I am very familiar with, that way I can tell whether the item is authentic, because it's something I would have seen in the store or online and for one reason or another, didn't purchase then. Most sellers are good about either listing garment measurements or sending them to you by request. This is very helpful to know. I also won't purchase a garment unless I'm *sure* it's going to look great on me and I'm familiar with the quality (again, this is why I stick to brands I know). Most sellers will not accept returns just because the item doesn't look nice on you, so keep this in mind when you're bidding. It would be a shame to spend money on something that you couldn't wear.

All I can say is that the only bad ebay experiences I have ever had have been as a seller, not a buyer. I have had just one bad transaction in the six years I have been using ebay. Just check the feedback.

Also I would stay away from well known designer brands like Marc Jacobs or 7FAM jeans. Sometimes they're just used items that a person is trying to get rid of. Unfortunately most of them are fake.

Have looked at ebay and know there are good deals but am a bit nervous to make those first few purchases. If you have any tried and true stores you can recommend, would really appreciate it.

Thanks
