The outfit is fantastic. That is odd about the Talbots sizing, but not unbelievably odd - sizing is completely unreliable as you know.

This is a great outfit on you, L'Abeille. The cropped chinos are really flattering and I love the fun and trendy touch the red bandana adds.

Oh, for sure sizes have changed a lot, Joy. When I was in high school, 5'7", skinny and flatchested, I had to wear size 13 or 14 because 12 was too small. There is no way I would fit those clothes now, 50 lb. later. But somehow I assumed all the size inflation took place in the 90s or thereabouts.

Also, in general I have found that the pricier the brand, the smaller the size (vanity at a price) and my mental image of Talbots is midrange.

When I graduated from college and needed clothes for a job, my size was 10. I was 5'4", small boned and weighed about 85 pounds. I would have been swimming in today's size 10. Yes sizing has changed a lot. That is one reason I don't bother to look at size labels in thrift and consignment shops. They are meaningless.

...or is it khakis? (See rachylou's recent post.)

This Friday ensemble reminded me to dig my khakis out of the summer closet I wore the outfit today (Saturday) to plant vegetable seeds and outfit our sailboat for launch tomorrow, so there was lots of clambering up ladders and kneeling in the dirt.

Except for the pants and bandanna (thrifted), all the items (navy T, gear jacket, and slip-on sneaks) are from Joe Fresh. I also wore a white fedora like the one in Angie's polyvore when I was out in the sun.

There's a story behind these pants. I thrifted them 5 or 6 years ago. Crops were an extremely fringe trend at the time, one that I didn't like one bit. I didn't even want to try these on, but my daughter persuaded me . We were both surprised at how flattering they were. (My legs are short compared to my long thighs and big feet, but it seems that chopping the leg midway somehow fools the eye into thinking the leg is longer.)

So, when crops came back in a big way, I knew they would work on me, and I knew I already had a pair stashed away. They had gotten too tight in the last few years, but with some weight loss in the past year, I hoped they would fit, and they do.

But here's the weird thing. I checked the label, and they are Talbot's, made in Thailand, size 16. Now I am no stranger to size 16 pants, but my recent purchases have been 14 and even 12. Is Talbots way less vanity-sized than everyone else? Have size numbers continued to drop in relation to actual size even in the past 5 years? Or are these pants way, way older than I thought? (I honestly can't remember when crops were a thing the last time.)

Thanks to everyone who put up with my musings.
