I am used to kids and animals jumping onto my bed in the early morning so when it happened I yelled at them to stop it. Then I heard the kids and animals from downstairs yelling "it was an earthquake!"

I am glad I was not alarmed. I love "missing" earthquakes!

Glad everyone is safe. Earthquakes are scary ...... big or small I have experienced it twice now in the last 8 years (latest being 6 months back). Our closest epicentre is in Iran our neighbors and we always experience tremors when they have high intensity earthquakes (which is quite frequent!) And I didn't sleep for months after that. Even the bed shaking a bit, when DH turned sides while sleeping, used to scare the $hit out of me and I used to wake up all trembling. Scary to say the least!

Deborah, I haven't seen the footage you're referring to (ended up having an 11 hour day at work) but I heard about it on the radio and my cousin said she saw it on Facebook. Guess what the attitude is here--everyone is ridiculing the newscasters for climbing under their desks!

Thanks for all of the good wishes! That's brilliant about the museum putty, never heard of it--I'll get some! After all, antique demitasses must be displayed!

I lived 6 miles from the epicenter of the 6.1 Whittier Narrows quake in 1987. Shook the plaster off the lathe in my living room, and dumped cabinet contents onto the floor. It's hard to come to grips with the earth moving beneath you, for sure!

I'm glad to hear you and Baby are alright, Adelfa. Earthquakes are scary for sure. They are extremely rare in Belgium, in my lifetime we only ever had one, a very minor one at that, and we were all feeling a little shocked after it happened.

This one really scared me as we live right near the epicenter and I really felt it. A few things were knocked off shelves. I'll have to inspect stucco walls for cracks. The cats were frightened but are OK. I'm still a little shaky.

Adelfa, I'm glad you and Baby were able to ride it out together. Earthquakes are a wild experience, a quick reminder of how volatile life can be. I try to grin and bear it but then I've never been hurt in one. The worst I've experienced is some cracked walls, dancing furniture, and broken mirrors. Didn't feel this one at all. Thanks for your report.

About half an hour ago I felt my first earthquake since moving back to LA 3 months ago. It was a 4.7 on the Richter scale so not huge, but definitely palpable. Baby, my Russian Wolfhound, seemed to think something dangerous was going on! When I was a kid living here I thought earthquakes were fun, but I have to admit I'm a tiny bit more scared now. I think I'll stay away from the beach for a little while.

I have belatedly taken down my demitasses in case of aftershocks. I wonder what I will do with them--they are my only collection and I love to look at them.

How are the LA fabbers? Safe? Any property damage?
