I have two dye reviews up on the site that are pretty in-depth:
http://onedollarwonders.blogsp.....fiber.html

http://onedollarwonders.blogsp.....c-dye.html

My main advice is to wet the clothing before submerging in the dye bath, agitate the bath often, and have enough room to move the clothing around. I was very happy with both of the dyes I used - when the hubby and I used RIT in the past, we seemed to get much more blotchy results.

I've dyed a lot of clothing and I recommend Dharma Trading Company dyes rather than RIT. The colors are much richer and stronger. I've included a link to their web age. While the pictures are more like 70's hippy tie dye, the dyes are good quality and there are a lot of color options. You need to buy more than just the dye.

http://www.dharmatrading.com/h.....=dyes.html

Good luck!

I've used RIT dye, with mixed success. I would only recommend dying clothes that you won't be devastated to part with. Be sure to get the garment COMPLETELY wet in regular water before putting it in the dye. No matter how careful I am and how soaked I think something is, I usually find out that part of it wasn't quite as wet as the rest and I end up with a couple areas that aren't as well dyed as the rest.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

Ask Rae - she's the dye queen! I've used Rit to turn a cotton blazer from green to brown but had less luck using it to dye white cotton shorts red. They turned out salmon or coral colored even after a second try with a new batch of dye.

I am interested in this too. My grey jeans are a great fit but I feel they are too light in color and would like to try dying them darker grey.

I know many of you get very crafty with your clothing. has anyone had any experience dying clothes? What are the best dyes to use?
