On the blog 'What I Wore Today', Kasmira often mentions over dyeing a piece of clothing.
I believe that dyes have come a long way since we were kids Joy. Why don't you try dyeing a peice of white denim and see what you come up with.
I know what you're saying about bronze. My first and only pair of metalic sandals are bronze. It seems easier to wear than other metalics for a beginner like me.

I've used Rit Dye on thin cotton material for an assignment for my degree, and I got good results with lasting color, but I've never tried denim. I often wondered if i could dye faded jeans to a darker wash.

Joy, perhaps wearing metallic or pearlized jeans over the age of 60 depends on the cut of the jean too....and other factors, like the rest of the outfit, your body type, the venue, etc.? Say adding simple, classic and understated items with it? I haven't tried anything like that on, but they sound interesting, such texture! That cut on those RL ones looked like an appropriate style...but I don't have the pic right here, just from memory.

Joy, the silver metallic jeans are by Ralph Lauren. There are some pearlized cream ones as well. I don't think the look is too young for you, because the jeans don't have any embellishments on them other than the metallic denim, which is very subtle. Plus, they are straight leg. But I'll let other people chime in (plus, you have to feel comfortable in them, too).

I can't post the links right now, but they are both on the RL website under denim.

Ohhh wow, you just took me back. I had a pair of satiny silver jeans back in fifth grade (I wanted to be Billy Corgan... I don't know) that I loved to death until a friend knocked me over and I ripped the knee of them wide open. :(
I would be so excited to see pictures of someone wearing metallic jeans on here!

I wasn't thinking necessarily metalic, although that would be great if subtle! I just want a deep gold color. I think it would be a great neutral that would be different but still go with so many colors. The brighter gold offered seems more limiting and makes more of a statement on its own than I want. Someone did post a link to metalic silver jeans here that looked great but too young for an over 60.

Is there a dye that would be metalic? I haven't looked at dye for a long time but don't recall ever seeing a metalic dye. Does the metalic come from fibers in the fabric, or from a fabric paint? More questions, no answers, sorry.
I am curious though to know more about this now that the subject has been brought up.

Does anyone ever dye a piece of clothing to get a better color? What prompts this question is a great desire for a pair of bronze gold skinny jeans. Last week I thought I saw a pair of J Crew matchsticks in that color and the more I thought about them, the more I wanted them in my fall wardrobe. When I went back today I realized that they are more of a mustard yellow. I had been looking at them under rather dim artifical lights while wearing my sunglasses to see them as bronze. I still really want bronze! Can dye ever work or is it just too messy or chancey to try?
