The first and third styles have come back around and are very wearable in 2019. Probably wouldn’t waste time and money on the second one.

If you really want to change the color lighter, you can try the Tarrago SELF Shine (or I think Angelus also makes a similar product) "

I did it here, and I think it would absolutely cover with a few coats
https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....oe-dye-diy. I only did shoes that I rarely wear, so I don't know how well it would hold up, but I understand touch up is easy.

That said, I actually like them all as is. I think Croc is a a trendy pattern this fall.

NM, I’ve only used Tarrago, which is a coloured shoe cream rather than a dye. I’m not sure if it would work to change the colour to ivory. If you wanted to use Tarrago, which is easy and removable, I’d go for a subtle change in colour - maybe burgundy or bronze. Or a combination of the two! As I mentioned in Janet’s thread, you might end up with a patina effect. That could look quite nice!

Contrast stitching is always a thing. I think it is timeless.

They all look fine to me. As you have green eyes, I guess green clothes and accessories, including this green bag, look great on you.

The other two are so neutral that they go with anything. I like the fun shape of #3.

Please don't dye these bags. Others might love them exactly as they are. If you don't like them, let them go to someone who does.

Brooklyn - Oh, I hadn't thought of going lighter... Have you dyed from dark to light successfully? What product did you use?

Shevia - Actually, you are very helpful! Chain detail, croc embossing, and green?? - I found these (finds)! Gives me something to consider... Thanks!

Sal - thank you!

It is very easy to use colored ( brown or navy) shoe polish on the stitching, or even magic marker or markers that are used to cover scratches in wood (come in wood tones). It is worth a try but try the brown bag because you like the size and chain. The croc texture of the navy bag is supposed to be very “in” for fall/winter.

I like the contrast stitching! I like the first one the best. What colour were you thinking? Ivory could look good. Or you could try a colour block effect by only dyeing parts of the bag.

SarahD8 - oooh, great questions! Aside from the three above and my laptop bag, my existing bag collection is two bags: a small cognac Fossil crossbody that I only wear in summer (when it's too hot to have a jacket with pockets) and a plum clutch for special events. I wouldn't mind another small bag I could carry for special events, but I don't think any of those three fit the bill. Thanks for helping me with some introspection!

Sal - the brown is the one I like best, too. It is the smallest and I like the chain detail. I just don't know about that stitching...

The profile of your bags is my new favourite shape. Last year I thrifted a Coach and used it all winter. I am looking forward to getting it into rotation next month. I’m currently still using my summer bags.

Don’t know if the shape is current/trendy, but it works for me!

Of the three I like the first one best. But bags are such a personal thing - it is hard to know what works best for you in terms of size, carrying and shape. To me that one fits best with your style direction.

When you do carry a bag, do you carry a satchel? Or do you prefer a different style? (I say this as not a bag gal, and an obligate cross body wearer: it's pointless for me to keep any bag that's not my preferred style.)

If any of these bags were dyed a different color, when would you choose it/them over any of the bags in your existing rotation?

What else could you do to improve your wardrobe with the time/money you would spend dyeing the bags, and which would have the bigger effect?

These are leading questions, I know

I am NOT a bag person, but there comes a rare occasion when I don’t have a trusty pocket to hold my phone and coin purse. I’ve had these bags in holding for a (long) while and think it’s time to bring them out or let them go. None are designer or sentimental.

I thought about dying the green one, but I’m not sure it’s worth the time. The contrast stitching in the other two look odd to me - is contrast stitching still a thing? I had a similar mock croc Dooney and Bourke tote with white chunky stitching back in my 9to5 days, but that’s at least a decade ago (or longer).

What do you think? Should I keep any of them? Try to dye the stitching? Let them go?
