Glad you were able to send those jeans back. Sorry that they did not work out for you. I recall someone telling me that the chemical odor in jeans is often from formaldehyde, which is used to make the fabric more wrinkle resistant. Yuck! That is what is in embalming fluid. I cannot imagine it is good for us to wear this on our bodies. I would rather live with the wrinkles.

Good to hear that so many of you share this duplication inclination.

Sterling - I ended up sending those Wit and Wisdom jeans back (glad I got them from Nordstrom) after soaking them in vinegar and baking soda, washing them five times adding baking soda to the wash and the smell was still unbearable! I don't know what it is they are doing but they should not be doing it. This is actually the second pair of jeans I've sent back due to chemical odor (can't remember the brand of the others) but it's making me hesitate to order online. I thought Levis was supposed to have stopped using harsh chemicals but so many of their jeans are up to 30% synthetic poly type materials - I just don't need that much stretch.

I'm wearing a pair of AE skinny jeans right now that I got for I think $29 and they are nearly 100% cotton and feel great. They don't make this model any longer unfortunately.

When you find shoes you love, it is worth buying backups before the manufacturer retires or redesigns them. I have a feeling I have to start doing this with jeans, too.

I'm a shoe duplicator when it comes to my favorite running shoes. I have multiple pairs out that I wear, and I always ahave a couple in boxes as back up for use when a pair wears out. I've used the same style for over ten years. The same goes for exercise gear. When I find a top or bottom that I like I will purchase it in multiples. I have been less inclined to do it with my everyday wear, but I did purchase my favorite sandals in multiple colors, not exact duplicates.

I agree with duplication. I often buy multiples of shoes for the exact reasons you mentioned.

What did you decide about those Wit and Wisdom jeans that had an odor? Did you manage to get it out?

GOOD IDEA, Tex. This strategy works for me too.

I have multiples of EXACTLY the same wardrobe item: jeans, turtlenecks, white shirts, clutches, and especially SHOES. I just bought another cream pair of these booties. They will be ready to debut when I need them next year:

Duplicating white shoes makes a lot of sense, especially, since they show wear faster.

I'd love to duplicate the sneaker boots that have become a total staple. I've never worn a pair of shoes so often but they are so much better for my feet than any others. But I bought them on clearance and they're sold out everywhere.

One would think I would have sense enough to be as smart as you about footwear. I live in the American south, which means I need lots of summer type shoes. Only recently have I started acting like it, though. A couple years ago, I did a shoe purge and found I had like 12 pairs of black boots (this doesn't account for brown and grey boots or the ridiculous number of black pumps I had). Lately, I've been trying to concentrate on warm weather shoes. It's hard, though, because I just love boots. Thanks for the reminder that I probably don't need the lace up boots I just spotted and started obsessing over LOL

This makes perfect sense. I really love the white sneakers, too, although my season for wearing them is sadly short! Even so, I'm considering duplicating in a different colour because they are so useful.

This makes perfect sense, Texstyle. I am also hard on shoes as I am a bus commuter/pedestrian and am out in the elements for long periods of time. Additionally, I have a hard to find shoe size (12) and have often regretted not purchasing 2 pairs of the same shoes/boots/sneakers. I am going to start duplicating certain classic footwear items... perhaps beginning this season with tall boots. And, yes... I, too, am beginning to think that duplicating jeans is a very smart idea.

Angie has talked about duplicating exact items several times and for me it makes really good sense. When you find something you love and begin wearing it often, you know that it will not last forever - sometimes only through one or two seasons and that means the search has to begin all over again, UNLESS you duplicate the item.

For me, footwear can take a beating since I often am walking on rugged rocky roads and such. My white Ecco sneakers have become easy fall/winter favorites since our weather is so mild and I only need a covered shoe, not a particularly warm one most of the time. I searched for a very long time to find the perfect white sneaker for me so today I decided to go ahead and order a duplicate pair so I won't feel lost when the current pair begins to show too much wear.

While I was at it, I decided to try a few sandals for the warm spells we still have even in fall and for next spring/summer. The Ecco Damara sandals I have in a slightly different version already - so these are somewhat of a duplicate as well but in a two-toned slightly varied design. The Felicia is just a new one to try out as is the Clarks navy sandal. I tried a platform navy sandal from Clarks earlier this year and unfortunately it hasn't really worked out for me, so hopefully this lower heeled version might work better. I love the idea of having a pair of navy sandals.

Our warm season is very long - most of the year in fact - so I have to have a wide range of sandals to keep my feet and myself happy and interested in summer dressing.

Now I just wish a few of my favorite jeans were still available so I could duplicate them!
