Sounds like duplicating will work well in this case. It doesn't seem to me to be a problem if you duplicated a small number of precious items that are really essential to your look/feel/just sheer getting dressed in the morning!
I actually have my fav jeans in two sizes. Allows for slight fluctuations, and, more importantly, some days I feel like tighter clothes than others :)

Good luck with the auction and in your life. I am glad you are doing better.

I've been pondering this. I bought a few dresses in two sizes at NAS because I wasn't sure which would fit. I'm slowly losing weight (good). For now I'm keeping one dress in the smaller size also because I want to be sure I have this dress in a size that works when it gets colder.

I also finally bought replacement Naot sandals to replace the pair I bought as a replacement for my first pair. The newer version doesn't fit me as well, so I am glad I found mine again on Zappos.

The fact that both Zappos and Nordstrom have really good return policy helps, but also, they were nowhere near the deal you are looking at. The shoes are full price; the dress is NAS price.

I am late here, but also advocate getting them in the bigger size. With such a great price, the risk is not too bad - you can always resell/consign etc., and they sound like such a signature piece.

I also want to send lots of hugs and hope that you are in a happy and healthy place. I too can not eat whens stressed, and about 7 years ago went through a really difficult period due to a devastating break-up and lost about 20lbs from my usual 110-115; so I know the situation all too well.

I was about to lay fully into Sterling regarding weight, as it was not a question in the original post. My opinion, unless someone asks you specifically for advice or you are their doctor, nurse practitioner, etc., then shut up.
Rant over.
Anyways get the size up. It's a style that totally works a bit big, they look good hanging a bit low. Unfortunately mine are too small. I should look on eBay too.
ETA they're basically a variation on harem pants, which have been a sideways trend for quite a long while.

I haven't read all the responses but I would be inclined to say buy them. I relate to your style journey and feel similar about my wardrobe. I belive that you have probably now really honed your core style and while there will always be evolutions in your style, the core elements may be quite consistent. Those cross over pants are beyond trend and such a cool item I would definitely purchase the size up. That style of pant is one of my own signature looks and I have three pairs (all different.. but!!) I don't see myself every tiring of them.

And as Gaylene suggests, you buy quality items and you can always resell if you need to. That's what I do if I make an error of judgement. Certain brands and labels do seem to have good resale value:)

A bit of a tricky question as we get older and our weight shifts. I have some jeans in my closet that I tried on today. They fit perfectly everywhere except in the waist--can't button or zip them. I thought about trying to find a larger size, as I have done with other pants. I think though that for me I just need to accept that even though I am at the same weight I was 15 years ago, I don't have the same body.

Having said all this, I'd say go for it in this case.

I've decided that I am going to look for different brands of jeans than I have now. Time to go to the stores and do some try-ons. I do look forward to seeing how they turn out if you do buy them.

Buy the duplicate. Everyone has different needs and priorities, and you've presented a good case for why duplicating might be the right way to go for you.

Like others, my decisions to duplicate have had mixed results, but, when it works, it has really paid off in high happiness factor. And, if it doesn't, you can re-sell or donate.

Definitely duplicate. Small price, big payback, so the "risk" is really low. So what if a few years later you are over them? If you love them now, you will for sure get more than $50 of happiness out of them.

I would buy them and in the worst case scenario, resell them. If they're like most black denim that I've encountered, the difference in the leg going up one size will be negligible.

Is it possible that the size up will be wearable right now, but just in a looser look? If so that would be especially attractive.
I duplicated some Gap gray linen blend pants last year by buying 2 sizes because they were so right for my casual summer needs but I didn't know if they would shrink or bag out or even just how loose I wanted to go. Currently I can wear both pair, using different tops and footwear for different proportions.

Sandy, you have a good point and I hadn't thought of that. The current ones are starting to be a tiny bit tight in the waist but nowhere else. A size up might really be too big on me, even if I do gain a few more pounds.

Altering them is an interesting idea that I hadn't thought of. I'll ponder that.

[removed my original response because I had an overly negative reaction -- I was clinically underweight when I started posting here, because of serious depression, and it's a hot-button issue for me, I guess.]

Sterling: I do want to avoid creeping up and up in size, and it's true that "stay at my current size" is a healthy and very achievable goal. It's also very important for me to not get caught up in worrying about my size, and removing one source of stress - losing favorite pieces - helps keep that unproductive worry away.

I duplicate my favorite skinny jeans one size up, for both travel comfort and because I'm hard to fit. It's a winning strategy and makes me feel confidant. But your stylish crossover jeans look like a boyfriend fit, and would they be too big all over if you went up a size? Re the jacket, is it fitted? I've never had luck going up a size with fitted jackets because the overall 'look' is off to my eye. Best to get a new, looser style for those bulky sweaters.

I've had both successes and failures with duplicates. Great success with shoe duplication, less success with jeans. I've been pondering this topic quite a bit lately. I've decided it's because if I like a style that I tend to go too deep in it. Instead, I should enjoy the limited amount I have in one style because I am apt to want change. Then just trust I will find the next right thing instead of feeling guilty for moving on with too many clothes in my closet I don't want to wear. Luckily, I have a friend about my size I've actually sold clothes to. She's happy when I get tired of something she likes.

All that being said, the price is quite good for the jeans. If they are a true love, you may want to duplicate if you're going to be very upset when they're gone (for either wear or sizing).

When I duplicate things in my current wardrobe, I wear them all the time. But I've had bad luck stockpiling something for future use. Usually by the time I'm ready for it, my style has changed. So if you think you will use the jeans/jacket in the near future ( 6 months or so), I'd go ahead and buy. If you are thinking it will be a year or two down the road, I'd pass.

This is a tough decision though.

I actually do not the sizing. I have stayed a consistent size for the past 8 years. On the other hand I will purchase multiples in shoes and pants. I do have varying styles. But the multi buyer in me wants to purchase it. I remember I fit gitiano jeans perfectly I bought a pair in every color. I remember when those wore out. They discontinued the line. I was devastated. I said I would pick up 2 pair of everything. Boy that was a long time ago. Only if I really love them.

That's a great price for the jeans that you know you'll miss if you can't wear them, but I'm less enthused by the jacket duplication.

My own experience was that my taste really does change, as well as my threshhold for repetition and then I have two identical items I no longer want.

Maybe it would be better to challenge yourself to find something equally satisfying but different?

For that price--definitely go for it. Otherwise you may have regrets.

I've lost some weight over the years. Slowly. But there are lots of things that were much, much more flattering when I was a heavier weight. They were more flattering then than they are now. Your "wonderful" jeans may not be as wonderful sized up, and I would be factoring that into the price I was willing to pay.
