I don't have luck with dry shampoo, but I have fine strands of hair and lots and lots of them! Combine that with oily hair, and well, it just doesn't work.

E, I tried your suggestion last night. Good stuff! I blow-dried it bc I had to go out, and it felt less drying than when I blow dry after a shampoo.

Going to look for Ally's Batiste extra volume one, because I ....don't shower every day, and when I do, don't always wash my hair. Given how much I love my haircut, I'd like to work it a little better. Right now, energy and bandwidth don't permit all the daily tasks I used to take for granted.

Hey! I'm exactly the same as you - wash my hair every other day and inbetween washes it tends to go a little greasy. I use the batiste range of dry shampoo - they have hundreds of varieties and work great for me. I spray into the roots and give the hair a ruffle and it just sort of soaks up the grease :)

They do an XXL volume one too which is good for giving your hair a boost at the roots too! Would definitely recommend.

I used to shampoo daily, but went to every other. At first my hair seemed greasy (but didn't look bad) on the non shampoo days, but after several months my scalp seemed to adjust and I now only need to wash every other.
The dry shampoo works, just make sure that you brush it out thoroughly.

I did go without shampoo for as long as a whole week once, just to see what would happen (I was on holiday and I didn't have to go to work), and it was horrible ... not something I can try again unless I lived alone on a mountain. Yesterday I went to a general store and although they had several shelves devoted to all sorts of hair products, no dry shampoo there. Then I went to a beauty shop and no success, either. I'll keep looking.

I also have fine hair and wash every other day. How long has this been your routine? I found that when I first spaced out my washes I was very uncomfortable on the second day, but my hair adjusted over time. I occasionally use dove dry shampoo in the aerosol can to freshen up a bit, but I'm not crazy about it and wouldn't recommend it. The smell is a bit much and it makes my hair look ashy.

ETA: I have had reasonable success freshening my bangs by re-wetting and blowdrying with a bit of hairspray and a comb.

I also have fine & oily hair and no matter how hard I tried to stretch out shampooings, I was always uncomfortable with the greasiness by day 2 (I used corn starch as a dry shampoo, because I'm sensitive to artificial fragrances, but helped the looks but not how I felt). But then about a month ago, I tried 'washing' my hair with water, going through the exact same motions I would if I were shampooing, and I couldn't believe it but it worked! Now I can go 4-5 days between shampooing, as long as I wash with water (very thoroughly, even more thoroughly than with regular shampoo, lol) every shower. I never, ever could have done that before! Obviously, as the days go by my hair feels less silky but it doesn't feel dirty, just more textured/voluminous. So if anyone wishes they could shampoo less but has always had too much build up, that might be something else to try.

ETA: forgot to say I use a sulfate free shampoo (Kiss My Face Whenever Shampoo) and no conditioner (I didn't need it when I had a pixie and now that I have a bob, spacing out my shampooing has been enough to keep my undyed hair healthy) or styling products, so I don't have to deal with build up.

My fringe is the first area that looks oily. I have a hard time seeing how the no-shampoo could work on me, unless the conditioner does something similar to the shampoo - I have never used conditioner, either.

If the dry shampoo works as a refreshener for my non-shampoo day, that would be good enough!

One trick I read about recently is using dry shampoo on the roots after a shampoo and blowdry, then reapplying it on Day 2. Apparently the first application is supposed to soak up the oil as it's produced so you have less oil to deal with on Day 2. It might be worth a shot.

Mostly, I'm with I'm K. Dry shampoo is not a staple for me anymore. I sort of envy people who can skip two, three or four days of washing, but that method definitely does not work for all hair types. My hair is just oily enough that even if my hair looks and feels fine on the beginning of Day 2, it's a totally different story by mid-day. It also takes more time to fix and freshen my second-day hair than it does to just start over. So, I wash almost daily and compensate with a good conditioner.

I'm in the same situation as you--fine hair, oily. I've really made an effort with dry shampoo. I've tried lots, high end to low end to baby powder (fine for my blonde hair). I gave them a good two year+ go. Seriously. Two years of trying to wash my hair every other day. My scalp never adjusted as everyone including my hair cutter promised me it would. I finally gave up a few months ago. I only gave up on it as a regular thing, though.

I love it as a quick refresher on days when I am really really busy and can't spare even the 5 or 10 minutes it takes me to blow dry my hair. Or the quick refresher before going out for breakfast with a shower later. Or after a long flight. It works great for all of those. I just never found it worked for me for a full second day where I still really wanted to feel like my hair looked great.

The best ones I found were Ojon, Oscar Blandi and a powder root lifter by Aveda. They tend to have a stronger fragrance, so keep that in mind if it bugs you. And if you have blonde hair, try baby powder tapped very lightly onto your roots and then rubbed in. It will at least give you an idea how it works before you buy anything more expensive.

I've tried the Suave brand and it is handy. It's still not as 'fresh' as washed hair, but it's a reasonable shortcut.

Have you investigated the no-shampoo method? I haven't tried it myself, as I have thick hair, but I've heard raves from people who stopped using shampoo entirely and just rinse and use conditioner every few days. If you do an internet search for 'no shampoo' you should find a lot about it.

If it gave me some volume, that would be a bonus, as my hair is fine and lacks body. I will see what is available where I live. I'm excited to try this product!

I used to use one so I could just wash it every other day. I never felt that it gave me that "just washed" clean look, but it did make it look better. As I've gotten older, I find that I don't have to wash my hair but every 3-4 days now, so I don't bother with dry shampoo anymore.

I do and highly recommend it. I started using it because my hairdresser told me that I was ruining my color by washing my hair every day. Now I use dry shampoo at the roots and wash maybe once every five days. (It took a while to work up to this though.) The only thing to be careful about is that it can add a lot of volume - this can be a feature or a bug, depending on the individual.

I've used bumble and bumble, oscar blandi, and cheap tresemme. Usually I use tresemme, but the oscar blandi comes in an airplane-friendly container, so I keep it for travel.

Hello!

I have fine very greasy hair and was wondering if using dry shampoo would be a good idea. I wash my hair every other day and I have to do it in the morning, otherwise I would have to wash it everyday and I do not want to do that, as it is inconvenient and also because I feel it is not optimal for my scalp and hair. I have looked around a little and found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aObYVf9tKFA

Looks good. Do any of you use dry shampoo? Would you recommend it?
