Another vote for Argan oil. I use the brand Moroccanoil and I use their repair shampoo and conditioner, both of which have no sulphates, parabens or phosphates. No more dryness, static and lots of shine.

Sammy have you been processing your hair in any way? perms, double process color, rollers, flat irons, relaxers, jeri curls? You should never be able to break the ends if your hair is healthy. If you are not sure what is going on, don't forget that you can always see a dermatologist if you need assistance with why the problem is happening so you can address the cause. Lots of great ideas on conditioners. I have frizzy, baby fine hair and I do well with the Keratase products especially the ciment thermique which is a leave in conditioner for blow dried hair. Also the Liss professional line Ultime has a great line. But as I said, if the usual fixes don't work I would recommend checking in with your hairdresser or a dermatologist for more in depth help. Good luck!!

Some very savvy hair experts on here today! Agree with all of the above, and mainly all of the reasons that it could be happening. It's best to eliminate the cause than pile on solutions to erase the symptom.

Don't underestimate drinking plenty of water and eating correctly. Product buildup, hard water, stress, illness...drug or alcohol abuse...all of these can contribute to brittle hair.

Agree with above advice about not washing too frequently (sometimes you can just condition instead of washing), and using some type of natural oïl. Good luck!

Agreeing with others that 100% Argan oil works so well for dry hair and skin… but it can be pricey. Coconut Oil and Olive Oil are economical (and easy-to-find) alternatives.

A fourth for argan oil. And if you do heat style (which is not a good idea with fine dry hair of course, but necessary sometimes!) it does seem to lessen the time needed to dry.

A third vote for argan oil! But be sure to get 100% pure argan oil - many products that include argan oil also include silicone, or silicone derivatives. the same ingredientsthat features in the Pantene shampoos. And I find that hair items that contain silicones look good on fine dry hair at first, but after a few uses, your hair gets even more brittle and strange.

Is it possible that you have product build-up? My hair stylist told me that that can make your hair crunchy. She said that they have something called a "Malibu" that they do at the salon. It's not too expensive--I think maybe $30--but it's supposed to remove product build-up from the hair.

Do you have hard water? Sometimes minerals can build up in the hair and make it feel almost like straw. (I had this happen to me. I found out what was happening when I moved somewhere with soft water and my hair changed dramatically within the week. But I do not use shampoo in my hair, which I think made the problem worse--shampoos usually have stuff in them that softens the water and helps remove mineral build-up.) If you think you might have mineral build-up, you could try rinsing with diluted vinegar or lemon juice and see if that improves things a bit. I think another way to test this out (maybe a better way?) would be to use distilled water for your final rinse.

If your hair is overly dry, it might also help to stop using any products that have protein, which can make the hair even drier. You'll have to do a search online to find out exactly which ingredients would fall into this category. Some examples of ingredients would be hydrolyzed wheat or soy protein, amino acids, and extracts made from grains.

I live in a very dry climate, which is even worse in the winter. So i use a combo of almost all of above ideas. First, I do not wash my hair every day. That makes a huge difference. Second, I try not to blow dry it every day, air dry if I can, or dry partially, but not completely. Next, Josie Maran makes some good argan oil treatments for hair, including a hot oil version (you can find these on sephora). Lastly, I use phyto hydrating mask as my conditioner.

I like Phyto deep conditioner. I put it in, put my hair in a disposable shower cap (like found at hotels), and putter around for an hour or so, then rinse it out.

I also have very dry hair. I have started washing it every other day. If I am going to wash it I put coconut oil in it at bedtime (the night before) and then wash it and condition it as usual in the morning. I like the Biolage hydratherapie line as it is very gentle. I also avoid blow dryers and curling irons as much as possible. I don't know if you color treat you hair but that can also be drying so you may need to take a break from that as well.

Have you tried Argan oil? (Or even olive oil treatments) Do you use products containing sulphur? Hot appliances like curling or flat irons? On any new meds? Are you getting some oils/fats in your diet?
