Thanks Marina! Yes, I think I will keep my eyes open for something but I'll make looking for some shoes the priority. I agree, dark silver would be lovely. :)

Thanks Rambling Ann! That sounds great too...

Thanks Isabel! I really can't imagine that it doesn't fit, we're pretty similar at the moment. The shoes are a tad too small for me unfortunately. They're my super old dancing shoes and I passed them on to my sister for her dancing classes. I wore them in 2013, but they got really uncomfortable after half an hour. I definitely want some new shoes!

Also loving Your Sister's Dress and agree that if it fits, you are all set in the fallback department, or even in the first choice because it's really pretty and would suit you very well.
I like the shoes too!

Your sister's dress is absolutely lovely and I believe it will suit you very well, but if you have time then go looking for something else. If you find something affordable that you like more, good (it's usefull to have a nice night dress just in case). If you don't find nothing like that, you can still borrow your sister's and go for some new shoes (a dark silver one would look classy with this dress :) )

Thanks Rabbit. Yes, I think you're right and concentrating on a great pair of shoes would be the most sensible and practical thing to do. And the dress is really lovely! I'm not home for a while, but I can have a look on Monday if they still have the dress in the same size in the store where we bought it recently and try it on for size. We had is shortened, but the length should work out, I'm just a smidge taller.

I think if sis's dress fits you, that's a slam dunk. A focus on shoes might pay off more in the long term, you have mentioned you need a shoe update and you wear skirts so often -- it might be great to have a dressier pair of shoes to give you variety if you wish. With a minimalist neutral wardrobe, shoes seem to carry a great deal of weight in making an outfit both feel individual and contemporary/interesting/flattering to my eye -- oh, and haircut/specs, but you have the upper part covered and looking awesome.

Astrid, you look wonderful in your sister's dress and it fits you perfectly. I especially like the length, too. Shoe shopping can be just as much fun as dress shopping. You previous outfit was so pretty, too, but if you want to change it up and save some $$$, wear your sibling's dress and find some amazing shoes you love.

Thanks Aliona! Yes, I could definitely do this. She will wear the dress in June and I'll be home before the event in August and could take it back with me then. Still have to ask, of course. I could start looking for some versatile dressy shoes that would work with the navy dress (and also something else). I lack pretty dressy shoes.

I agree with Staysfit, most of my swanky event dresses only see one wear, and your sis's dress is so pretty. But I'm also with Rachy: party dress shopping is so fun, if you have the time and inclination. Could you borrow your sister's dress as backup and have fun looking just in case you find something?

Thanks Rachylou. Yes, it was pretty great. And it was rather individual too which I loved. I admit that my sister's dress is rather more conventional and similar to what other people are going to wear. I guess it would be a pretty great fallback option though!

Thanks Staysfit! It's only lately that we can wear the same things (she's almost 10 years younger than me). But we're definitely already taking advantage of it! If I buy something else I probably wouldn't go for another typical dress like in #4, that wouldn't make much sense. But I guess I could see thrifting another great skirt and top combination, or something like that. Something I can wear on other occasions too.

Oh and there's no "dressing up" of simple clothes with my jewelry for this event, because I'll be expected to wear some of their jewelry for the evening (being with the family and all). I don't own anything of theirs, but my friend will have a big stash to choose from.

Lucky to have a sister who takes the same size! If you want to save money, wear hers. Most of my fancy dresses see only one event. IMO it isn't worth spending unless you are someone who regularly has occasions.

The 2013 look was stunning wasn't it?

This August I might get the chance again to visit the launch of a new jewelry catalog here in Berlin (my schoolfriend's dad is the boss of the company). I already took part in 2013, but last year we were in Scotland during that time. Going there meant sitting with the family, it was all rather posh. There were two parts, first the more casual catalog launch and then a dressy dinner in the evening with dancing etc. Lots of yummy food, I tell you...

In 2013 I didn't have any budget at all for a dressy outfit and it was all rather last minute. I wore #1/2, which did cost me around 40€ all in all (bag and top on deep sale, the skirt was H&M). I wore #3 for the first part, stuff out of my wardrobe.

I could dress for the first part again out of my wardrobe, no problem. Probably much easier than it was back then. I have no idea what I should do for the dressier look. The top from last time is too big now and the skirt is gone. I guess the cheapest would be to borrow my sister's new dress from pic #4, it should fit me. Then I'd only need some shoes. Or I could look for secondhand stuff until then and go for something more individual. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, but I still have a lot of time to look. Any ideas? Thanks.
