How about a pair of dark wash trouser jeans:
http://www.lanebryant.com/p101.....dItem=true
They look pretty classy.

Also, Gap Jeggings have fans of ALL shapes, sizes and ages. They are worth a try:
http://www.gap.com/browse/prod.....ggings.jsp

I am also an apple; my biggest fit challenge is making sure that I don't look like I am pregnant. Tshirts of any cut are amongst the worst offenders- I would stay away from those at all costs.

I don't wear jeans but I find Evan Picone are the perfect fit for my apple shape. Are you in the plus sizes in women's clothing or just in the junior dept?

In my opinion the Lane Bryant right jeans all have a pretty terrible fit.

I live in jeans and I'm way older and most likely in a bigger size (20/22ish for the record) and I've never had to resort to elastic waists!

If you can wear smaller plus-sizes GAP is a great choice. I've found their larger sizes to run smaller than similar at Old Navy so don't let the number get you down. I can sometimes wear a 20 from Old Navy but I can't even pull up the Gap ones, plus they don't carry them in the store.

I've had good luck with Am Rag Cie at Macys. Stay away from the rips and tears and you should be OK. My favorite pair of jeggings are from here.

I've also done well at Torrid. I had a pair of Silver's that I loved from here. They were way more expensive than Torrid's usual brands--closer to premium denim.

STOP shopping in the JRS. department- it will only make you miserable. Step up to other retailers that have better quality and a fit more in line with your body (whether that is ladies or plus sizes). Check out the jeans at Gap- no rips and all different types of flattering fits up to size 20 I believe.

Welcome, Brandi!

How about you swap out the flip flips for some nice casual sandals and wear a knit top instead of a tee.

Hi Brandi -- and welcome. I think the things you mentioned (flares, t-shirt, flip-flops) are not really inappropriate for your age, but they also probably are not making much of a statement about your personal style.

Can you describe a little for us about how you want to look? Here are a couple of blog posts that might be helpful:

http://youlookfab.com/2006/06/.....n-persona/

http://youlookfab.com/2007/01/.....n-persona/

http://youlookfab.com/2007/01/.....-your-age/

And if you're feeling brave, a photo is always very helpful.

I googled Lane Bryant's "yellow" Right Fit jeans, it seems from the picture those are for the rectangular body. You are looking for jeans for an apple shape and unfortunately they don't seem to carry those? Are these sites any help? http://plussize.about.com/od/s.....ejeans.htm http://www.shapeyourstyle.com/jeans-apple.php
there are plenty of apples on the site that can help you (I am a pear so I have the opposite problem when shopping for jeans or any trousers).

I'm going to be 28 this year and for the first time ever I considered buying elastic waist pants. (I then came back to Earth and almost cried for having that moment.) I'd say it has more to do with my shape (apple) than my age but then it got me thinking. Is it appropriate to wear flare jeans, a tshirt, and flip flops anymore? I usually end up in the plus size juniors department because of my shape but I really don't think rips and tears make a pair of jeans look better. I need some help! Of course, losing weight would help but in the here and now, I need to know where I can go to buy age and body type appropriate clothing.

P.S. Lane Bryant's "yellow" Right Fit jeans are still too tight in the stomach and too loose on the hips, butt and thighs.

P.P.S. I have cankles and very wide calves, so skirts are a very rare occurrence for me.
