Sara, you're absolutely right. A denim jacket can of course be worn like a blazer in winter, and I've tried wearing my puffer on top of it now. Works fine! Great solution:)

I'm really excited for you!! This jacket is perfect in the way it fits and the way it looks! Yay, for H&M this time :-)

I also am impressed that you put effort into figuring out these combos and taking pics, but I know it will pay off big time in being able to grab and outfit and know you look great.

I second Suz's nudge to get you into white denim -- I just know you'll look fab in it. And do you really need to wait until this can be outerwear? Lots of us wear them as an indoor blazer alternative.

Oh, yes, I wanted to mention your incredible ability to bookend and the way that gives each outfit a balanced/proportioned feel.

Wow, just the perfect fit and style to casualify your dressier wardrobe pieces. I have a denim jacket I don't wear often (purchased before my YLF days), I think it needs to be "cheekier" like yours. Must check these out before they are long gone. Each outfit is just fantastic, Ingunn. You always amaze me with your ability to inspire! Thank you.

*jumping up and down with you* Oh Ingunn, that is SO exciting! Just look at how it goes with every. single. outfit! It's really hard to find a denim jacket these days that is not super faded and with holes in it. I think you found the perfect one (and likely many other fabbers are dashing off to H&M because of your post right now). I love how it fits you like a glove, was a great price, and will casualize your gorgeous dressy style. Now THAT's what I call a score.

Dear Ingunn,

I love your wardrobe and your taste! The way you put clothes together is a real inspiration and you are not afraid of colour. I love your sense of proportions, hems are always right, and really dig how you cuff your sleeves. I like how you wear prints, it's very fresh.

I am so happy for your new-found love. It certainly is loving you back, in every outfit. It is the right length and cinches your waist just enough so it can be worn with more fitted dresses as well as casual outfits. My favourites? It's tough, but everything in 1, because I'm a big fan of contrasts and this really offers a nice one with the lace, and 3, for its proportions, and because to me it really represents your style best. However, all are nice.

Carolbee, thanks! I absolutely think the denim jacket will work over long and lean silhouettes, but then I would opt for a very cropped one. It should hit you at your natural waist, not your hip. I find that my new jacket is a tad too long for this look on me, but that also has to do with my shape - I'm widest at my hips.

Thanks, all, I'm very happy that you liked my dress down efforts. I did spend a couple of hours on this, that is true, but I find that it pays off to have an archive with outfits to look into when I need inspiration, so it is worth it to me. I don't put this much energy into getting dressed on a daily basis - heh he! Then I never would have left the house.

You are amazing. Its wonderful that you've found an item that can be used in so many looks, your CPW will be minuscule! All of your looks are fab but the pics in #1 are super fab. Like Cinnamon I'm keeping this for future reference. I never thought I needed a denim jacket either but ill rethink this, although I only have one dress.

Question for fabbers (sorry for hijacking your thread Ingunn), can a denim jacket be worn over the 'long over lean look'. Apart from a trench I struggled last winter on what jacket to wear with tunic and leggings?

Wow, these are great looks, and I am studying them carefully, after my post this morning about my disappointment with my own denim jacket looks. I do think that the denim jacket paired with a more fit and flare or A-line dress or skirt really works well. I don't really own any of these dresses or skirts to try that out, but you've really nailed that combination here in multiple ways!

Thank you again for the boost!

Yes, Suz, you are so right. A denim jacket is very useful in late spring and early fall here and probably during most summer days and evenings. Last summer, we hardly had any days with a middle temperature above 20C. Sad! I thought most of Canada had more or less the same climate as in Scandinavia? I wasn't aware of your hot summers.

The first shop I tried yesterday was Levi's, but the prices are nothing like in the US, and the one they had was actually very much like the one I chose later, but not as good fit, and with some weird distressing on the chest pockets. It also cost three times as much as the H&M denim. I actually went to two H&Ms yesterday, both the flagship store at the great mall near my workplace, and then to our local mall. At the flagship store I found lots of denim that was severely distressed, bleached etc, but this is not to my liking. I looked for the L.O.G.G. collection - are you familiar with that? It has a timeless, casual style. The turnover of goods at the large mall is incredibly quick, so I often have better luck locally.

It is probably at least two months too early for my denim as outerwear. We currently have three feet of snow outside, and freezing temperatures. But I've also learned from YLF to shop early in the season. This time I practiced what I've learned:)

You look spectacular! I especially love 1, 5, 7,8,9....oh forget it, I love them ALL!!

And I completely understand your enthusiasm about your denim jacket.

Even though this morning I was just telling Sarah that I am currently not in love with mine, part of that is because i far prefer it with skirts and dresses and have been wearing mostly skinnies due to weather here...meaning the jackets are in the closet. But the truth is, a denim jacket can make every dress go almost anywhere and instantly funk up a look. When I got my first one, I was thrilled! And it was shortly after joining YLF.

I think for your climate in spring and fall it is especially useful, and even on summer nights. Sadly our summers are too hot for my denim jackets to see a lot of wear. But I do bring them out for spring and autumn. And I wore one of mine all last winter...I suppose it was just one of those items I tired of because i wore it to death...it is a collarless jacket that I liked with scarves in winter but plan now to pass along to my step-daughter.

Another hint: look for a white denim jacket, too. I got mine in the Old Navy children's department last year and I love it! It cost me all of $12.95.

Your H&M version looks fantastic. I like the wash on it. In fact, I might just have to go looking there myself for a replacement for my own!

Thanks, ladies! You are too kind, all of you.

I actually feel a bit embarrassed now - I mean, I'm jumping in here, enthusiastically, eager to show you what you all have known for years already. A denim jacket is after all a classic garment, and has been around for decades. Nevertheless, I was never very interested in one, as I didn't regard it as relevant for my style, or taste, at all. How could I be so wrong? Looking at myself in these photos is very enlightening. I feel almost like I've found the missing link! This was a big excitement for me. I've struggled with finding the right level (right for me & appropriate for the situation) of casual dressing, because I often felt that I overdid it. This doesn't happen that often anymore, because I've learned so much lately, like how do dress down a dress or skirt:)

These are all great looks! You have great patience too, to go through your wardrobe and try all these outfits out (and then hang everything back up, ugh).

OMG! Off to H&M when I come back from Italy next weekend, replacing my own denim jacket is long overdue.

Ingunn, that jacket is perfection itself AND on you. And I must say - hat off for your creativity in playing with your wardrobe, you seem to be made to do these "wardrobe case studies".

I have to run, but I had to chime in quickly to say you GORGEOUS creature! A denim jacket is a wardrobe essential for my own style, and I'm thrilled that your new edition is working out too! Lucky you found your size and at H&M of all places :)

All looks are an 11 out of 10!

Well done :)

I'm off for the day!
