I really like the skirt and the ways you have styled it! It is a very figure hugging skirt and I think it looks great on you!

It looks a smidget tight but I'm not sure if the pulling is exarcebated by your stance. I wouldn't alter though. I like it as is. It is very Mad Men ( USA TV Show)

Lots of food for thought here. Thanks ladies I will continue to experiment may try Lyn's advice & wear with a longer top to hide the pulling. At least I feel positive about the pencil skirt. Might try one in a more structured fabric as Beth Ann suggested. The fabric on this skirt is more summer weight & we are going into winter now.

This looks great on you! If you loose a smidgen around the hips it will be a bit more comfortable, but it looks fantastic as is! Va-va-voom!

I think the skirt has tons of potential, and I love how you've styled it! Pencil skirts can be tricky in terms of fit and wrinkling across the front. I love patterned ones in part because they don't show the wrinkles so much :).

I think you've nailed the "de-bomshelled pencil skirt" formula in #2. This is brilliant! I'm not as wild on the proportions in #2 -- the dress seems a tad too long, but I love the colors represented there.

There is a tad bit of pulling in the front, although it appears that the back isn't doing the same. I'm guessing this is partly due to the fabric being a little thin for the structure in the skirt (although a thicker fabric wouldn't pleat well in the back.) The ideal for a pencil is a firmer fabric with some stretch, which is why so many forum members love the Nordstrom's Halogen skirt, which, alas, doesn't fit me well.

Love this new look and hope you keep experimenting with it!

I love pencil skirts, in fact as I'm getting older the pencil is my favourite siloutte :-). I find it very flattering, and use most often for work AND for casuals, too.(for casuals I love a bit shorter)
Of course, I always pay attention to have enough rooom/length for walking and sitting confident, I don't like them too tight for everyday use,-or does that mean then it's rather a straight skirt?? OOps, I am confused now...:-((
Anyway, love a straight and slightly tapperred in silloutte for my kneelength skirts and when they don't tapper, I always try to remediate sewing in on the sides a bit by myself:-))
So, I like yours-too-especially styled like in nr. 2(if dropping that few pounds, or even adding a longer jacket! :-)). It may pull a bit on front, but you can still wear it with a longer top like in nr. 1 (but that one is a bit too long for my eyes).
Hope this helped something.

I especially love the second look. Gorgeous! I may have to rethink pencil skirts after seeing this.

Yes loosing a couple of kilos is definitely on the agenda & thanks for the confidence boosting remarks. Wouldn't have entertained the idea of me in a pencil skirt before YLF so waiting a few weeks to drop some weight before I wear it in public is not a problem.

You rock a pencil skirt Kiwichic! I think you have done here what Angie refers to as "de bombshelling" the pencil skirt.. by wearing something voluminous over the skirt. I really like both these stylings. The skirt is pulling a little across the front but if dropping a kilo or two in on your agenda this skirt should be a fantastic addition to your wardrobe. I think you look great!

Here is the dreaded pencil skirt which I swear fit me when I bought it (I can't return). It seems a bit tight to me so should be ok if I loose a couple of kilos. Anyway tell me if you think it looks too tight and then also overall impression of me in a pencil skirt (haven't worn one for about 20 years) - so big step for me.

PS strange photo angle makes me look more squat DD took photo and she's only 5ft 5. In heels in these photos I'm about 6ft so should have got her to stand on a chair.
