My love for corduroy never died but I do forget about it. I think I'm going to keep it in mind to give myself a break from all denim all the time this fall/winter. And I love these pants.

I like the richness of corduroy - it evokes autumn for me- but usually the styles don't work for my shape somehow. It's too casual for work for me but I'd wear casual pants if I found styles and fabrications that were flattering.
So I'd go very much by fit and drape- if it works, go for it.

Thanks all! Still thinking about the cords.

It's so fun to hear there is a David Sedaris chorus here (the title of this post is the title of one of his books). We love him too. I've seen him twice and would see him again in a heartbeat - although once you've heard him enough, I think you always read him in his voice, which by the way, is great. He is funny, human, subversive, irreverent, occasionally dark, and lovable. If you are unfamiliar with him, you should listen to him sing old-time advertising jingles in the voice of Billie Holiday, which made me fall for him years ago.....

I adore corduroy, Viva (David Sedaris, too.) Though my daughters wouldn't be caught dead in them, I find corduroy pants to be both practical (warm and washable) and attractive. They often come in great color ranges, and the richness of the color is enhanced by the nap. At the moment, I have a creamy rose-beige pair of girlfriend jeans I wear with a matching oversized cashmere sweater, and a pair of bottle-green fine-wale bootcuts that I wear with heeled boots and many different tops. These have been real Winter workhorses for me. I think your russet cropped pants and suede boots look made for each other; I'm sure you'll think of many beautiful ways to style them.

LOVE David Sedaris, but not so much the corduroy. I like it just fine on other people, but I just cannot get on board after the 1970's. Plus, I always think about the bear when corduroy is mentioned. The exception is wide wale corduroy on men; I love that look.

I saw those in the store, and the colors are gorgeous. I didn't try them on because I was already buying the Teddie's, and I always feel like corduroy is a bit too much of a bulky look for me. How far into the winter would you wear these? I think once we get into deep winter I'll be reaching for my long pants. Although I wear sweater dresses, so why not cropped pants!

I am a fan. It's like velvet, and what's not to like about velvet. I thought about buying some olive green corduroy skinnies this winter but they did not work for me (like Sterling I felt that they added bulk). But I love the idea and would be willing to try a different cut. Rich and warm for winter.

Thanks for the note on Garnet Hill, Binkle. I'm definitely collecting some great ideas here for looking, when I am ready to shop again (on hiatus for a while).

Barbara Diane, you might want to ask UmmLila about her cords from last year, which have a raw edge. She might be able to give you insight into how well they fringe over time.

Mmmmm corduroy, and the wider wale the better, though hard to find.

Fine wale is nice too, I think colors look lusher/deeper because of the extra bit of texture. Garnet Hill makes a nice skinny style too.

I have 2 pairs, in a sort of wine and a sort of green/teal. I'm not sure they have the most fashionable cut, but I love the colors. I'm going to try rolling them to wear with booties, or maybe cut off the hem. Does anyone know if they will fringe?

And yes, for me, thin wale all the way. For comfort and to not add bulk. Fun fact. I googled to make sure I was using/spelling "wale" correctly and found out that wales have counts, related to how many wales per inch.

I totally want that corduroy/shearling jacket from Stranger Things! But I do have this vintage number in my closet -- I think this olive cord jacket was my sister's in the 70s. It's VERY warm. That brown olive is not my best color, but sometimes I think about pulling it out and wearing it.

Why is corduroy devisive, I wonder? Hmmm.

I like it...in theory...but it sometimes stretches out so much and shows the wear. So I end up not buying or wearing it. I love when it is soft, though, and love the beautiful colours!

(She is a girl crush and one of my all-time hair icons, and in my next life, I want to come back as Jo Marsh, as brought to life by Ms Ryder in the iconic 90s film Little Women). BUT, I digress.....

Viva - I wish I had that color too. I didn't because I already had an aubergine pair, but the styling isn't as current on those, and I don't wear them as often. Then I tried the Dre in burgundy, but those didn't work for me. I will be curious as to the colors they bring back this fall.

When I attended a prep school in Connecticut with a dress code that forbade denim, I wore a lot of corduroys. I got so sick of them, I didn't wear them for many years afterward, but I came around by about 2002 when I got AG fern green corduroy flares in one of my first experiments with premium jeans brands.

Last year I got a pair of Mother raw edge olive green cords and wore them a lot last winter. (Find is grey.)

Maybe you should also get a corduroy jacket with fleece lining for that 80s look (like Nancy wears in Stranger Things). <http://www.bustle.com/articles.....6-without->

I love the look of them on others and have tried a few times in recent years, even buying a pair. I ended up donating them. I wore them, and loved them in my high school days but they just don't make me feel fab anymore. I say if you love them, wear and enjoy! Does anyone remember Hash Jeans and Cords from the 70s? My sister had a pair of two toned (brown/tan) flared denim cords that I coveted like a fiend!
