There is a pair of straight leg jeans that will look fabulous on you, Inge. No doubt in my mind! Good luck with finding a wrap dress. I’m sure it will look great. (With your funky new shoes!)

Thanks for indulging me San! I think I know exactly what you mean, you can be classy and sexy at the same time (and all you ladies here are great examples of that).

Antje and Ola: good to hear you have access to some Mexx stuff too. I'm like Angie, I always see something I like in there, and their clothes are good quality as well.
(Ola: I'm 5'8 and the dress fell just above my knees, and that's just not my best look unfortunately).

Nicole: you're spot on, it did have a retro feel, and not all of those prints work on me either, but this one did. (don't have an answer to your question, for me it's mostly a case of trial and error...)

Angie: the thought did cross my mind and I think it would look great, but at this point I'm only looking for a summer dress I can wear separately when it's warmer (have to keep an eye on my budget sigh). And I'd have to go hunting for straight leg jeans as well, because I still haven't found my perfect ones (on my shopping list though, there has to be a pair out there that looks ok on me right?)

Mexx is a fab Dutch chain store (for men too). They have chains on the East coast and in Vancouver. I always find something I love when I walk into Mexx.

Inge, would you try that wrap dress over a pair of straight leg jeans ?

I love that dress. There is something a little retro about that fabric that I am drawn to. Unfortunately, when I've tried on similar prints, they look very matronly on me. I understand why certain cuts, styles and lengths work on different body shapes, but why would a pattern or design look good on some women and not on others?

Love Mexx, which though it's European I actually discovered here, when I picked up a super cute red sleeveless top with ruffles down the center at a consignment store. Gotta check if there is one in Vancouver!

Oh good. Now I worry that I have offended people in Los Angeles. Let me clarify, I was laughing when I said that. My attempt at a joke.

Ooh, sorry. I knew I'd start a mess with my comments. I suspect Pamela Anderson was not so cheap looking when she lived in Canada. Living in Los Angeles causes people to forget to put clothes on.
Now I don't mean that all American women are cheap looking. Absolutely not. I only meant to say that I have the impression from 'whatever' in my 53 years, that European women are sexy and very womanly in a classy, real, earthy, and sometimes fashion forward way. Just as European men seem sexy to me.
The dress in the post shows the figure while seeming to be of fabric and style that can be worn for regular daily activities like shopping for grocerys. It wouldn't be mistaken for a little girl dress.
Remember I grew up just south of Los Angeles in San Diego which would account for some of my view of the world.

And the worst part is that Pamela Anderson is actually Canadian! (at least that's where she was born) Lucky us.

Hmm. That is hard for me to describe. I guess from media, European women seem very shapely and womanly in a healthy, earthy way.
From the media, American women can seem scantily clad and cheap (Pamela Anderson). That is the direction we here at YLF don't want to go I'm sure.
Hope I don't start a big rucus with these comments.

Ooh, we have Mexx in Canada! There is even one in my little town, if you can believe it. It's not a big store but I will have to drop by and see if they have this dress (although it's likely to be too short on me too, I'm 6' tall).

Thanks for the tip!

That's quite interesting San, I've never thought of it in terms of 'European sexiness', but then again, I'm surrounded by it all day long aren't I;-)

I know these things are difficult to describe, but could you say what exactly it is in this dress (and other images of European fashion) that makes it sexy/typically European?

It sure looks great on the model. It's a wrap dress with a lot of that European sexiness going for it. I've never been to Europe but that is the idea I get from the media.

I know the Mexx clothing line isn't available in the USA, but some of you lucky ladies are travelling to Europe this summer, so I thought I'd point out a dress I tried on a few weeks ago.

http://eshop.mexx.com/is-bin/I.....=6T376-1AV
(change colour to 'fresh lilac')

It's a 'purplish' wrap dress (Tanya you would look lovely in this!), and in reality the colour is a bit brighter/lighter and less 'brownish' than in the photo (I don't know who has been doing the styling and photography for their website, but lately everything looks so washed out and sometimes even a bit démodé - while they actually have quite a modern feel going on in the shops).

I'm new with trying wrap dresses, and this one fit me very nicely, but it was just too short for me (still bummed about it). The fabric is a bit heavier than your normal jersey and it drapes beautifully over your body.

If anybody tries it on, do let me know what you think of it?
