NAtalie - your missoni top is the perfect 70s blouse. #2 captures the whole vibe of the 70s, both the color palette and the silhouette.

Sorry I'm late posting these, was busy with work and with a sick kid, but here are my 70's looks. The first one I actually wore on the 60's day because I wasn't going to work so the sheath dresses I posted wouldn't work for MOTG. But it's kind of a late 60's/early 70's look to me. Thursday I wore the Missoni Target crazy patterned blouse, Pilcro flare cords in rust, and mustard yellow blazer and my suede rust colored heeled sandals. This crazy colorful blouse reminds me of the patterns my mom used to wear when I was little in the 70's. Growing up in the 80's/90's, we always thought those clothes looked so tacky and loud, and yet here I am wearing the same type of clothes now that I have babies of my own. Funny how that works!

1. Hinge mustard & grey damask patterned tie neck blouse, Gap Long and Lean dark grey jeans tucked into brown suede La Canadienne boots.
2-4. Missoni Target blouse, Anthro cords & blazer, and Chie Mihara sandals.
5. My mom and me at 1 week old!

UGH, my camera was zoomed in this morning when I took these and I didn't notice! You can BARELY see my flatform shoes in the bottom of the photo. I was inspired by this cool picture of 70's fashion models.

Ok, I'm back to say how much I enjoyed this challenge, it was my favorite by far. I discovered just how many pieces today are 70's inspired!

Sveta-Love your 70's style. Killer vest, btw.

Kari-Great modern day 70's ensemble,flares and all.

Ornella-Excellent Annie Hall impersonation! Super cute tie, too. I must have missed the starching tip, have to check that out.

Glam on the inside-You look groovy, baby.

Di-Not sloppy at all, I like this outfit alot. The vest is such a nice color contrast to the black. Well done.

Mark K-My 70's sista! I used my Hinge blouse for this challenge, too. Love the vest and wide leg pants. The bonus of your vintage gown is killer. Such beautiful psychedelic colors.

Cty girl-love up your mini dress, so 70's!

Mamakate-Nailed it! The hand made boots are killer, love the color.

Ante-Gorgeous dress, love. And we are belt twins. Love that touch.

Bella-70's inspired but perfect for 2011!

Sharon-I was hoping someone would do John Travolta, love it! That's one great vest.

Suz-We are Long and Lean twins. Great top and such a fun 70's style pattern, the wide belt the perfect accessory!

Aida-All the elements of your outfit look so authentic. The turtleneck, vest and bell bottoms are brilliant. Well done!

Tracina-Absolutley LOVE that top-very 70's inspired with the tie dye like pattern. Such beautiful colors!

Kim-I almost forgot about jean jackets in the 70's! Love this with the midi.

Finally back to comment -

Amazing looks everyone! Sveta, I kept hoping you would wear the furry vest to work, too. That is a terrific outfit! Seriously. (But if it rained today where you are as it rained here, you wouldn't want the vest on...)

Kari, we had the same inspiration photo! You look terrific. Love that yellow bag.

Ornella, I died and went to heaven! Annie Hall!! Oh for the days when we didn't know what a creep Woody Allen turned out to be!

Glam, so glad you kicked us into disco with your sparkles!

MaryK, those two outfits are so fantastic I can't stand it. I especially love #1. The blouse looks amazing with that vest!

Citygirl, both your looks are great but look #2 is seriously sexy!

Carole, aren't you glad you kept that blouse? You look wonderful in it, whatever the era!

Mamakate, you do demure 70s gorgeously.

Antje, that is a totally wearable look; I love the low-slung belt!

Bella, you look stunning. And isn't it interesting to see what we learn about ourselves from these challenges? We should have a thread about that after we're all done.

Sharon, I LOVE the John Travolta look. I was so hoping someone would do this. I wanted to but did not have the pieces for it.

And Aida, you look PERFECTLY the part! Yet at the same time you could easily wear this again and not look costumy! Oh, and about my outfit, believe it or not there are some (2 inch) heels on underneath those long jeans. Yes, my legs ARE short. But in fairness to myself, they look even shorter because of the camera angle. My daughter is still learning and she is nowhere near as tall as me. Trust me, IRL it looked at least marginally better!

Tracina, you absolutely ROCK this decade!

Queen Mum, great to see you back, and wow, that jacket really works in this context! Love it with the asymetrical hem.

Looking forward to our later posters, too.

Ohhh so pretty! I think it'll work with your skirt outfits that use dark heels, really cute with skinnies for weekend dressy-casual looks (add some denim!), with black tights or nude fishnets, with midis for a retro vibe, under bootcuts in place of pumps....

The shoe is the Porter pump from Adrienne Vittadini. I bought it in two colors but have been a little challenged in how to style it, so I'm happy to finally wear it out of the house!

MamaKate, I think the pattern mixing works nicely (mainly because of the greenish color in the top is mirrored with an olive stripe in the jacket and the pants). Very cool boots!

Antje, LOVE this styling of this dress with the lower-slung belt! That circly belt is awesome What did you wear as a topper/outerwear to combat the rain today?

Bella, I can't decide if I love your outfit or your style observations more I get a 70s feel from your outfit, but it certainly doesn't look like a copy nor vintagey; it's an excellent example of how to take inspiration from an era and make it look completely modern.

Sharon, now THAT is one amazing vest!! I really like how you echoed the white/cream again with your flats and the chain necklace (and also the checkers on the floor behind you, hehe!).

Suz, this is another great example of taking inspiration but not copying. Streamlining the 70s version of this (belled sleeves, brown accessories, flared pants) keeps this looking quite current to me, though I do want to see some heels with those pants Also I have to say that your hair is really cute with those little waves!

Tracina, I love love love your 70s inspired outfit!! The colors are gorgeous and fit the era perfectly. Your tie-dyed flowy top is just so dreamy (are those sequins at the hem?), the light footwear picks up the light tones AND makes the denim pop nicely, and your hair styling is an extra fab touch.

Kim, cute! I like the proportions of the longer jacket with this dress, especially with the long pendant.

I am thoroughly enjoying these 70s outfits, especially since as Sveta pointed out, we've been doing them all year already; and yet, everyone seems to be trying something new. Love it!

Sveta, I LOVE #2!! The contrasting textures you have in this outfit are just amazing, especially the silk+faux fur. #1 looks great too, but with the bare legs I want to see those sleeves pushed up :)

Kari, good thoughts about the polished aspect of the 70s (the inspiration photo outfit is awesome!). This is a beautiful color pairing, and the bronze shoes are a fab extra dose of glam. Yay for the KS bag :D

Ornella, I ADORE this look on you (and such a cute backstory ^^). Your take on menswear comes across as playful and feminine, it's really amazing looking.

Glam on the Inside, your outfit suits your name Great abstract print AND sparklies on your tunic!

Di, very cute! I rather prefer this outfit with the top untucked as it looks less preppy, and the silk scarf tie is really lovely here.

Mary, okokok I definitely need to copy your work look right away! The dark vest is just smashing looking with that print. Also, new shoe detail photo!?? Your cruise outfit is lovely, the crochet shawl is gorgeous!

Citygirldc, fun tunic! I can totally see it also working awesomely with leggings, boots, and a little cropped jacket. The second dress is very pretty, love the platform heels with it.

Carole, ahh I'm glad you kept that blouse it's lovely on you (and coincidentally perfect for this challenge). I also hear you and Bella on the frayed hems; 90s high school for me too, I don't think I had any hems that WEREN'T frayed!

I would have normally chosen my cropped jacket for this, but thought this longer one was a bit more 70's.

Oh, what a day at work. Challenging environmental norm, check. Pushing my own boundaries, check. I could see a couple of cheeky guys almost ready to say something about my tie and how they stopped themselves. I think (I hope!) my outfit looked deliberate and confident enough that they realized it's pointless to say anything.

@Sveta, you had me in stitches! Yes, I too can mostly remember turtlenecks from the 70s - they were everywhere And especially the ones in earthy tones. Love both looks, but no.2 rocks.

@Kari, fab outfit and lovely finishing touch with the necklace.

@glam, what a fab blouse, such an authentic silhouette.

@Di, HIGH FIVE my Annie twin :)

@MaryK, O.M.G. Woman, you own these looks! Good thing I'm sitting. You know, it's so irresponsible of you to post two awesome looks and not consider our health. The blouse, the vest, the dress, the crocheted shawl!!!

@citygirldc, so lovely!

@Carole, truly, truly amazing! Fabulous blouse and just look at those jeans. You too rock this challenge.

@Kate, we'll happily take treasure trove look any time, until then this one was fantastic. I so love the boots. I'm in favor of mixing prints.

@Antje, you look fab.

@bella, you won me with PB blouse and studded belt instantly! I am taking notes.

@Sharon, So original and so fun. I love your take on John Travolta.

@Suz! I am speechless/wordless. That, my friend, is some achievement.
5 minutes later, I am back to add that you can wear any era and look out-of-this-worldly smashingly fantastic.

@Aida! You've just transported me back to my own childhood. I can totally understand your mum's reaction! What a thrilling, fantastic look!!!

Here is my 1970s inspired outfit. I wanted to put together an outfit inspired by what my mom would have worn in the 70s, and apparently I did a good job because when she saw me she immediately commented "I used to have a vest just like this, and pants just like this!" New furry vest from this past weekend in LA, and I am so very pleased that I waited until I found just the right fitted and cropped length; I anticipate wearing variations of this all season when it's not raining (it was pouring today though), and could also easily substitute skinnies+boots for the wide leg jeans. I had my hair down initially, but with the furry vest it was just too much hair ;)

Going back to check all the other submissions now!

My look is pretty simple today. My Gap Long and Leans, a tight fitting top, some stone beads, hoops, and shaggy hair. Back to comment ASAP!

Sveta - I adore both your looks. I really like turtlenecks, but I fear they don't love me back.
Kari - I love the colors of your outfit - an updated 70s palette, I think.
Ornell and Di - Annie Hall! What a creative take on 70s, it would have never occurred to me.
glam - your outfit is truly the glamorous side of 70s, disco!
Mary K- Oh, I am so glad you showed us your disco dress, I was hoping to see some psychedelic prints.
city girl - your dress is so pretty!
Carole - we had the same idea. I went to high school in the 90s, and it was obligatory to have frayed hems then as well.
KAte - I love your pattern mixing but I kind of want to see those bellbottoms:)
Antje - I completely forgot about the low-slung belts. Thanks for reminding us.

we are rocking this challenge ladies!

This was the easiest for me. I knew from the get-go what I wanted to wear. I guess like Angie said we've all had some practice. Although I don't think that I've put together a 70s inspired outfit before but I have a lot of tie-neck blouses.
Now, if I wanted to go for a genuine 70s vibe, I'd swap out the belt and shoes for brown ones. But I think this challenge has confirmed my belief that my style is modern and contemporary at heart. I have very little tolerance for vintage - only the kind that comes in reinvented form.

Oh I'm getting such a kick out of all these awesome outfits. Makes my day!

I changed my outfit last minute. I originally wore my long & lean jeans (the most flared ones I own) and a multi-colored crochet jacket that was just perfect for this challenge. However, it ultimately felt too casual for work, so I changed into my favorite new dress and added the 70s style belt. Not as evocative as my first outfit by far, but it'll make me feel more comfortable at work for sure.

Here's mine for today. Given that I have back-to-back meetings at the office most of the day, I didn't take the pleasure of ransacking my treasure trove (i.e. "costume box") - I actually hand-quilted a pair of patchwork bellbottoms in my past life.

Instead I opted for the demure side of the 70s,
-earth tones
-tie-neck blouse
-wide-collar jacket
-mixed textures (wool flannel in the jacket with silk in the blouse)
-my locally hand-made boots.

I'm also experimenting with mixed prints today - the combination of pinstripes in the jacket with dots in the blouse - I'm on the fence on whether it works. Any comments?

Posing here with my 2yo DD for whom it was "purple" day again. Truly, who among us gets the privilege of wearing a tutu?

Looking for images to dress like the 70's was a trip down memory lane. No wonder I like Boho, Flares, Peasant tops, bell sleeves; the list goes on and on for me!

I didn't have to look far and have several things I could have used for this challenge. But I need to hurry and be comfortable today; taking my wheelchair bound mother to the Doc's and shopping rules out anything too complicated!

Gap Flare Jeans, with ragged edge (need to hem these babies up, but this was so in style in the 70's, if your jeans weren't frayed, you weren't cool!

New Damask Print Blouse
Mossimo Cognac Wide Belt
Bandolino Ankle Boots.

Wow MaryK!!! The bangles and shawl are amazing with that dress! And I always advocate leaning on a vintage car accompanied by a handsome gent whenever possible

I have a couple of outfits which is my interpretation of the 70s. This is not my favorite era but I have a few pieces that I think work.

#1 - Indian tunic bough from a store in Greenwich Village, NYC.
#2 - Anthropologie dress.

You all look 70s-tastic!!

I have two 70s looks! 1/2 is what I'm wearing today -- I'm also Annie Hall-ing it up in wide leg pants and menswear vest from the latest swap along with Hinge tie-neck print blouse from the NAS, big silver hoop earrings, red Dooney & Bourke tote, and new Adrienne Vittadini black platform loafers. I'm super happy with how this look came together and feel like it will be just fine, if a little casual, for work. I may toss my black moto jacket over the whole thing for a completer piece before I go out the door.

Photos 3-5 are my vintage 70s evening gown, worn on Formal Night on our recent cruise. I paired it with a 70s-ish crochet shawl and was super happy with how it turned out!

Kari - you have such a talent with colour. Just gorgeous.
Ornella - that tie is super cute and you wear it well.
