Thanks, Angie. That is a lovely dress. I can give it a try - the shoulders might be too wide in regular sizing, but worth a shot.

Sarah, how about this dress, and your cream booties or loafers will work.

Smittie, I'll have to think about a blazer. These days I am running awfully hot, so I'm a bit off toppers at the moment.

But if I don't find a dress, I can probably just wear ink blue trousers and a blazer that I already own as a "suit"...

Thank you all for your input!

Denise, I think you're right about the potential for the pattern to overwhelm and distract. I was limiting myself to petite sizing, and that's when I selected #3 and 4. But then I decided I should probably try regular sizes, as well, to increase my options, and found #1 and 2. #1 is my favorite, and is fairly low contrast. However, it might be too big in the shoulders in regular sizing. I'll just have to see. I hadn't put it together about the "above" or "below" the knee influencing whether or not a bootie or higher vamp loafer vs a pump would work. But now I see what you mean. Thanks.

Suz, I actually have worn MJ's in the past, and do like them, so that's a good suggestion. I don't think I will be filmed, thank goodness. And I do have neutral Okalas as a fall-back option. They just kill my feet if I have to do any walking (I know, I know - I think I have even fussier feet than Angie - I can barely handle a 2" heel without it creating a lot of problems for my feet).

I would not wear these dresses with flats, but that is just me. I like Suz's bootie and Okala suggestions.

Would you wear a blazer over top?

I love those cream loafers, and think you could wear those with dressy grey pants for your presentation.

Also, don't forget an ankle strap pump as an option; I still really love my Okalas.

Hi, Sarah! Those are great looking dresses. I hope one of them works for you. Question: will you be filmed for this? In that case you might want to consider something in a flattering solid; I'm wondering if even in person the higher contrast patterns might be distracting. But I guess you'll only discover that in the trying on.

As for footwear, cream of some type would bookend your hair and that would be lovely. I am not sure a bootie in that style is refined enough for the occasion, though....hmmm. Angie has the Calvin Kleins and likes them and I've seen others as well. (Sorry, my Find for the CKs is a Canadian one but someone will have collected from another site...)

Do you think it has to be a dress? How about a beautiful trouser suit? Not that I am against dresses, by the way!

Also, how do you feel about a Mary Jane? Those are trending now and could work really well with the dresses. Angie did a whole blog post with links to a bunch so I'm sure you could find one in a comfortable to you brand.

If the dress is knee-length, I think the booties and loafers would look great. With below the knee dresses, I still prefer a pump or ankle strap pump. Both of the cream colored footwear options look perfect to me.

Mostly people will see you waist up. So I think a lower contrast first dress is the better option so you don't "dizzy" anyone. Do you have any solid color choices like red or cobalt blue or whatever brighter color looks fab on you? I once attended a meeting where I had a lot of input (there was no presenter). I was wearing horizontal stripes and I got feedback in that people got motion sick looking at me!

Personally, number two would look best with pumps because of the length but the other three would look REALLY good with the booties! Tights would work as well as leggings with them. Perhaps some flats?

I would go with loafers and the teal dress, unless you anticipate lifting your arms frequently, in which case I would choose something longer. Booties and dresses don't look as professional to me outside of winter (i.e. with bare legs).

Love all your dresses. my choice would be #4. as for footwear, I think we are seeing a lot more booties with dresses these days. My preference, and one I wore last year with a dress are a pair of low ankle booties. IMO low ankle booties are a great substitute for pumps, and my choice because I have a fit problem with pumps. They either slip n my heels or cut into my bunion if lower vamp. just me, but I find higher shaft booties make my generous calves look fatter.

Those dresses are all very lovely. I think any of these would look stunning on you. I am particularly drawn to the colors in the first one. No expert here, but I think the lighter booties or the JCrew loafers would be fine with these sheath dresses. Comfort is key when you are presenting.

Hello fabbers,

Sorry to come back from the land of the missing with an advice question, but here it is:

I have to give a somewhat "big deal" presentation and was thinking I should probably wear a dress. I've included some that I'm considering in the finds below. However, I'm wondering whether this style of dress would commit me to wearing pumps. I don't own many pumps, I hate wearing them, and they're rather outside of my workplace norm, so they make me feel uncomfortable.

Thoughts on whether these dresses require pumps, and if not, what alternative footwear might be acceptable? For example, would the cream loafers or booties work? Note that it will be chilly weather - too cold for open toes.

Thanks a lot.
