The narrow classic stripe in a fuller skirt will not be as widening as a form-fitting dress, either. How tall are you? I think the skirt is a little short, not for decency, but for the ideal proportions in the dress. That type of fit and flare always makes me look like a huge rectangular block. Sadness follows. I've had great luck creating a shape that works for me by using a striped top and a solid (for me pencil) skirt to get the same feel.
