Lol true - I suppose the more layers you have to put on, the more cumbersome it may feel.

Haha yes, check yourself first by all means! Thank you. Whether other people are looking at me or not is not my main concern when dressing the way I do, but comfort is - like I mentioned with the 'sticky elbows' thing, that's a personal preference. I doubt anyone else would notice (or even care) if my inner elbows were sticky

Is there any season when having to wear clothes doesn’t feel like a chore, lol? I’m way into telling people to “lower your gaze” if they think someone else is wearing too little. You look very classy and comfortable in your covered-up looks.

Thanks @suntiger & @rachylou. I think you've hit the nail on the head as to why I often shy away from drape - I'm still trying to figure out my Kibbe Type (Soft Classic? (Theatrical) Romantic? Who knows, lol?) but whichever type it is, I know it's one that requires more 'polish' in order to look 'pulled together' (as you said). Others can pull off the 'artfully disheveled' look, but there's nothing 'artful' about it on me

@Helena I never thought smart casual (or at least not 'home & exercise only') jogging bottoms would be a gap my closet needed to fill, but I guess I can thank COVID for that Thank you - I'm wearing another one of these cropped cardigans in chartreuse today. So glad I duplicated - they add arm coverage in hot weather, but without the bulk

I totally get that - sun damage isn't fun! Is the sun quite strong where you are, too? Don't worry, I'm not looking to shame anyone who would rather have part of their legs/ arms/ whatever out in the summer. Just that those of us who prefer to cover up more tend to have a hard time finding appropriate clothing in the summer (I actually do most of my summer shopping off-season, so that I can find modest-for-me pieces for cheap lol). Practical is the most important thing for me too (especially in a season where even having to wear clothes can feel like a chore - although I guess winter can feel like that too, if you have to deal with pulling on snow boots every morning & whatnot )

Echoing others; these all look great but the first two are particularly fab (my favourite is the jogger style). Love the colour of your jacket too!

Team covered up high five - although I do wear shorts and t's for practical-to-me purposes, I prefer covering up even in the summer; more comfortable for me and I like the extra sun protection too.

Interesting - thanks for the feedback! Yes, I think wrists & ankles might be two of the points I need on show in order to add structure (the other being the base of my neck - unless my shoulders are well-fitted, in which case it's JFE without). I think you're right that the wide legged trousers feel more 'artsy' - I usually wouldn't wear them to work, for example, unless it's with a much quieter top half (like a long sleeve top tucked in).

I think harem pants has more structure, less volume overall and slightly more feminine for the reason of showing slim ankles - it's very cute on you! Wide leg pants are fun in a slightly more relaxed way and easy to play with changing accessories like shoes, bags, jewelry, hat, etc.
I like both on you .

Thanks, ladies! It's interesting to see the difference in opinions between the wide legged trousers & the harem pants.

@Sloper Thanks, the hat is from Sol a Mer, the result of some serious internet sleuthing - it's actually a UV protective (completely opaque), water resistant style which even has a secret stretchy band that can hold your card etc. I've worn it hiking & the ties stay in place without digging in. I have another in coral red too

They accidentally sent me a final sale version that's one size too small, so have been thinking of putting it up in the forum in case anyone is interested. Glad you like it

@smittie @Bonnie @Jenni NZ Thanks for the vote of confidence Cropped toppers are a relatively new silhouette for me (a few years) but I like them

@Jenn I'm a pear shape too - I used to shy away from the wide legged look because I feel it emphasises the difference between my top & bottom even *more*. But the Great COVID Casualisation has made it easier to find ankle cuffed pants that aren't thick jogging bottoms, which help to temper the volume a little

Thank you @Angie & @FashIntern - I think the trouser jeans aren't necessarily 'bad' but they're a bit of a predictable choice (possibly even a little dated with the long top, re: @Sally's comment about tucking instead?) I still can't seem to part with then whenever I try them on though (they've made it through 10+ years of culls, so there must be *something* still drawing me to them, but I just can't figure out what!)

I think my modesty preferences are a mix of my cultural upbringing but also (as I'm slowly realising) just part of my innate personality too. I've tried experimenting with shorter clothes but I just don't feel comfortable in public like that (TMI perhaps lol but having to shave my legs just to wear a skirt is too much effort for me! And I know many people like t-shirts or tank tops in the summer, but for me there's nothing worse than the being a walking oil slick in the summer & then feeling that sweat rub against me when I bend my elbows I don't know if that makes sense to anyone else lol but I think I just have fairly sensitive skin - I squirm just seeing folk here sit on public transport in short shorts). No judgement from me towards anyone who prefers to dress differently, of course - I just know I'd be miserable if my thighs were sticking to a train seat or I could feel my forearm suction itself to my bicep every time I want to pick up my bag or something :P

I grew up being forced into wearing uncomfortably sequinned & starched shalwar kameez that would always scratch against my skin, so now I like to prioritise my comfort. Also I don't tend to burn in the sun but I will sometimes develop little milia & redness instead since moving here. Keeping myself covered in the harsh sun feels sensible here at least (in Brazil, the sun felt different - don't know how to explain it but I would often just tan a golden brown colour instead. Think it might be the city pollution?)

Long story short, I just feel more comfortable covered up but in my way (for example, waist definition is generally frowned upon culturally - if I'm wearing high waisted pants, I'm expected to cover up the crotch & peaches with a long top.)

I really like the draped bottom/fitted top silhouette too. It could just be that it suits my pear shape and, like you, I usually prefer at least a bit of structure. My favorite combo here is the pants in #1-3. So good!

Wow!
They’re all good, but I love the looser bottoms (harems and wide legs) on you!
Great inspo!

I realised that I had actually worn the outfit in photos #4-#6 *before* Angie made this post (for my first vaccine dose, since the cardigan is easily removeable for the jab). And whilst it isn't a fully draped or voluminous outfit (I need structure at key points (shoulder line, natural waist etc) to keep things from looking sloppy on me), I feel like there are perhaps some similarities from this to look #4 from the post (the shorter topper, longer tunic top (although mine is rounded rather than a sharkbite hem) & wide legged non-stiff trousers. Draping done my way

So I recreated the outfit with a few different bottoms, just to experiment with the visual effect:
Photos #1 - #3 is with a pair of harem pants (the long cuffs can be rolled up to create volume in different places) & photos #7-#10 are my trouser jeans (debating whether I should hold onto them or lean more into this draped/ curved/ looser bottoms look instead? Last photo is to show where the jeans waistband hits me in comparison to my hand at my natural waist)
