I just went back to read your other thread (I had missed it). Isn't that awesome that you're finding your style after such a long journey! Congrats!! I think the best part of modern classic is that other styles can be brought in more subtly to add an unexpected touch to an outfit.

@CocoLion! Thank you! I find that adding edge and boldness in elements rather than in head to toe outfits work for me best. There's a certain comfort in subtlety!

@*lyn - Wow I would not have thought you would be into leather elements in clothing, considering you wear a lot of very feminine looks! But I'm glad you've taken a liking to this trend!

With regards to your style shift - you just recently went through (or are going through) a major life change, no? From what I remember you're a new doctor? I think with my it's not coincidental that I'm going through this style shift too. My career is going through a major shift (I'm very very slowly shifting from tech/creative to a helping/people profession (counseling), hence my YLF absence due to full time work and part time school juggling!)

@kkards - Yes! Well there's always once thing one has to be experimental with. For me the haircut is always something edgy, the jewelry as well AND the shoes. Everything else can stay modern classic!

i completely understand were you are coming from. i also tend to dress in more classics/preppy, but l have always been experimental with my hair. i don't know why, i i always feel that its part of what make me, me!

I am seriously obsessed with leather details on clothing; I'm glad we have similar (good) taste - :)

I think I might be undergoing a style shift, but we'll see what happens!

I missed that WIW and I really like it.

To me, your interesting hair cut and glasses and geometric necklace add the edginess that seem you. If it were all edgy/trendy you might look less original than when you combine it with more unexpected classic pieces.

Thanks Beth Ann!

I still haven't figured out how to set up my tripod here at home (I dont' want to give you guys crappy pictures anymore!). And I think my digital cam isn't quite working (I barely use it - all iPhone now. haha!). Anyway, if it wasn't for you guys' comments and encouragement, I wouldn't have pushed this exploration further!

WIW's to come though! Promise!

Happy new year everyone! It's been a while since I've been on here!

Have you all ever gone through a drastic style shift? I believe I'm going through one at the moment - particularly since I spent the last 7+ years trying to pin down my style, and I was nearly sure that I was anything BUT classic: I always thought my style was more steampunkish-victorian-bombshell meets urban warrior princess, but since October 2012, I have very slowly but surely shifted to the modern classic side. It all started with this post:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....mfort-zone

I remember feeling so comfortable in this look and feeling more relaxed and confident, for reasons I still could not explain. Since my teenage years, I've avoided the classics/modern classics because I wanted the attention (LOL!). I wanted to be seen as original and unique! I decided to explore this look further and experiment.

I realized after experimenting with modern classic silhouettes, that I still needed the "edge", "bold" and "feminine/romantic" because those words simply describe me. So here's what I have done to incorporate them to modern classic:

Edge - leather accents on clothing. Graphical prints with worn elements
Bold - bold graphical prints - usually high contrast. In dresses, tops and scarves.
Feminine/Romantic - most of my dresses and tops are draped, fluid jersey.

I also learned to wear more scarves (all prints, no solids). Got rid of my ornate jewelry and opted for bold geometric statement pieces and beads instead. I always topped the look up with a tailored or draped jacket and structured cardigan. And I kept a short hairstyle, often coloured with plum/magenta streaks (gives me a bit of edge and boldness).

So needless to say, I've finally reached a degree of comfort in my personal style. All the 7+ years of experimentation was totally worth it! Hopefully I can get my act together and share a few WIW's (sadly I'm juggling work and school this is why I haven't been in YLF for a while!)

Anyway thanks for reading ladies! Do share any experiences you've had about drastic style shifts!
