I found the old style comfortable and went through a few of them. I remember a pair in taupe, with a dark brown rubber coating on the sole, and I think I also had the traditional style in stone.
Hmm, thinking back to those color choices, it seems some things for me don't change, do they?

High five, Ruth. And WOW - it blows my mind that you and Gaylene thought the wooden soles were comfy. Feet are sooooo different, aren't they?

YES. Clack, clack, clack, clack, clack. That was us in those Dr. Scholls, Lisa. But they were the shoe of the moment, and I had to have them. I tried hard to ignore how uncomfy they were, since I had begged my Mama for them. She DID wonder why I didn't wear them that often though. I kept them to wear to pools so that they wouldn't have to stay on my feet that long.

I 100% understand the appeal of something Retro that you loved wearing in the past. xo

Oh, memories! I too had a red pair with wooden soles (hi five, Angie!) I wore them for years, and like Gaylene, I found them really comfortable. I do remember reading a newspaper article by a chiropodist suggesting they could cause "claw toe" in long-term wearers from the clenching of toes required to keep them on. I limited my use a bit after reading that!

I WOULD wear the wooden ones again if they were available (were it not for the fact that we have hard surface in our kitchen and the slapping noise would drive my husband insane!)

Intrigued to see what updated version may appear.

Oh, Lisa. I had a red pair of these in the '70s - with the wooden sole. And they were just about the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever had on my feet - and my feet kept slipping out the front. The cushioned version sounds like a MUCH better idea.

LOL Gotta add Love's Baby Soft to that list along with Candies and Lip Smackers... Oh, and stock up on the L'eggs pantyhose! :-D

Dr Scholls wood soles were never comfortable to me when I tried them, even though I was really young when they came into popularity.

These remind me of a pair of sandals I gave up a couple of years ago. They were platform slides with gold Chinese-patterned silk-like fabric uppers. They were pretty and comfortable but started to look dated. Sigh. Must I hang onto everything?

I loved those way back when! Late 60's to the early 70's. They used to sell them at pharmacies and they cost $12.95, I think. They came in navy, bone and red. With my bell bottoms and a pocket tee, and a d-ring ribbon belt.

I don't want to do a full-blown duplication of the '70s, or of any other decade. I just want to add little touches here and there that work for me and remind me of the things I liked about that period of my life. There are things I didn't like, too, and I'll just skip those. Also, there are certain things that I could rock back then that I'm quite certain I'd need to avoid this time around.

Big Dr. Scholl fan in the 70s and 80s because I found the wooden footbed very comfortable--although I wonder if it would be the same forty years later. It would be hard to resist any of those, though, if I saw them in the stores.

I actually love the thought of playing around with touches of 70s fashion, but I think I'd avoid any attempts at full-on duplication. New has always been more interesting to me than looking back so I've never been much for re-visiting my former looks. I must admit, though, I get a kick out of seeing the youngsters sporting outfits eerily similar to what I used to wear when I was their age.

These cured me of my pigeon-toed stride in 6th grade. If you can imagine, I would hit the inside of my ankle bone with the shoe if I turned in my toes --- ouch! I was cured, but I still have scars.

I would buy a pair of these each summer. By the end of the warm months, the wood would be worn down to a splinter. I still remember the satifying "whack whack" sound as I walked down the street. Not sure that's such a good thing for the heels, though!
