I must have been soooo lucky with mine they took no breaking in at all there was a little brief discomfort around the tongue area of my ankle but no wounds, mine are 1/2 size too big perhaps that's why? x

As a determined teenager I remember wounds from breaking them in. But once they are broken in nothing is more comfortable.

I don't have docs, but I have a good friend that swears by wearing surf socks or neoprene booties made for the beach/pool/scuba while breaking them in. A thin pair won't stretch the boots out too far, but they are snug (to prevent blisters) and provide that extra cushion.

Jean, I feel your pain. Since I don't get enough wear on any boots here in Florida, my docs from the last season are still not broken in. I have been wearing them around the house a few hours everyday to do that - but more so to get rid of the annoying squeaking! I love how, except for the minor ankle discomfort and the SQUEAKING, the footbed is soooooooo comfy.

Lots of breaking in for that type of Doc - and then suddenly, they feel like slippers.

Every pair of Doc Martens boots I've ever had is like this. Wear thicker socks or moleskin or something to protect your ankle for a while, don't wear them all day long the first few times, and after a few wears they will be fine.

Sorry, I think they have to be broken in. Once that's done, just like a horse, they will be all YOURS.

I just bought a new pair of mid-calf boots and the part that hits my front ankle where the tongue is hurts. Will they break in? A bigger size is way too big and these are plenty long.
Anyone have experience??Should I keep and trust they will soften?
