Katja-that's great that you picked up some bridging pieces. Sounds like you made some good choices to hold you over as you slim down.

Wow! Oh great job on all your hard work!

I'm glad to read that you bought yourself some new pieces. It's no fun to have the body changes, only to dress in clothes that are two big and are hiding your true shape.

Congrats again!

(it reminds me that I should buy some new clothes, because my old ones are too big already)

Update: I went to Macy's today to look for jeans, and found a really helpful saleswoman. I gave her my specs (size 12 or 10, bootcut, long/tall, not too low rise, dark rinse) and she brought me piles of jeans to try on. I can't tell you how helpful that was - I never would have found all those jeans by myself.

I bought a pair of NYDJ jeans in size 10 (!), and two pencil skirts in size 12, one black to replace 3 or 4 too-big black skirts and one in a nice orangy floral print.

I changed into my new black skirt in the ladies room, and I can't tell you how much better it feels wearing it than the size 14 skirt I was slipping and sliding around in!

Three dresses and two nice size 14 suits are going into the sell/donate pile today.

Thanks for your encouragement to buy a few core pieces.

You guys are right, of course - I did go to Nordstrom Rack at lunch time yesterday to see if anything looked good.

And I'm actually 50 lbs down total (the 21 lbs is just since January), so yeah, I've already had to buy new stuff - but now the new stuff is too big and I've got to buy *more* new stuff, and there's only so much money for clothes in the universe.

So it would be great to have some sort of core wardrobe pieces that work well for the next 10-20 lbs rather than buying a lot of new stuff - Lisa's suggestion of a couple of bridging pieces.

Check Ebay, Smart Bargains, Nordy's sale page, or Nordy's Rack, and other discount stores to hold you over for awhile. It's also a good time to experiment with your style while buying inexpensive pieces that don't have to last forever.
Some gals have also bought leggings and ponte knit pants because they can shrink with you.
Congratulations on you weight loss!

I agree, don't wait to buy clothes that fit. What's the point in loosing weight if you can't enjoy the results? Maybe just a couple of bridging pieces to get you through the transition phase. Congrats, 21 pounds is awesome!

Oh Katja- don't wait to buy some new things that fit!
I'm over 60 pounds into my weight loss, and I can't say enough how much better it feels to always have some clothes that actually fit. Maybe you can take some things to the tailor and have them altered? Shop thrift stores, sales racks and ebay if you must, but you've worked so hard to loose weight that you deserve some new clothes.

That's wonderful Katja! Congratulations! 21 pounds is a lot wow! I completely agree with you: it's sad to have to let go of a dress you obviously love so much (loving the sound of that green check pattern myself), but hanging on to clothes that are now way too big is not the ideal way to celebrate;-)

Would getting one or two cute, not too expensive, dresses be an option at all? Or maybe doing a swap or shopping in one of your friend's closets? I remember Kristen writing about that a while ago.

I'm working hard at losing weight, and have lost 21 pounds so far this year, which is great!

What's not great is the clothing crisis this has created. I'm down to one pair of jeans (and, wow, it's hard to find jeans that fit), and 4 bras, three of which are sports bras (so I've been avidly reading Maya's bra-fitting thread).

Yesterday I wore one of my favorite dresses, a faux-wrap knit in a bright green check pattern from AT Loft. I used to fill out that dress really nicely!

By the time I got home from work, I knew the dress's time was up - loose around the waist, boobs threatening to fall out of the front, shoulders slipping down to show bra straps.

I really liked that dress...My husband did, too, and said something like, shouldn't I just hang on to it? To which I replied that that would be like PLANNING to gain weight again, and that wasn't gonna happen.

I've got another 10-15 pounds to go, though, so I'm not ready to shop yet.
