I used to but I found that I don't really wear the multiples as much as I expected, so I don't as much anymore. Jeans, maybe, but always in a different wash/color. I do have identical long-sleeved tops that I use for layering in the winter, and a few tank tops for summer, but they aren't usually purchased at the same time unless there's some kind of bargain going. It's more that I have different categories and different colors I wear and theoretically I wouldn't mind having each silhouette in each color, especially for basics like layering tops and jeans. Oh, and shoes - theoretically I can imagine having the same flats in different colors but it seems like I always end up with something that's similar but slightly different.

I sure do!

I doubled on my perfect jeans and my perfect flats - I'm not going to have a problem in dressing if one set decides to go on the fritz!

Yep, I do this all the time. But then, I'm a uniform dresser. I tend to wear one of three "uniforms" most of the time, and multiples make sense for me. Sometimes they are multiples in different colours, but other times, they are straight-up duplicates. For example, I've got two identical perfect white shirts, and two identical perfect black tees. I'm also petite, so when stuff fits me off the rack, I'm inclined to get doubles (although not normally at the same time...usually I buy one, find that it perfectly fills a wardrobe hole, then I go back a month later and buy a second).

I've never bought two identical pairs of of jeans, mind you. I'm not sure why.

I've never done that in the exact same color. For tees, when I find a style that fits well, I buy them in lots of colors. For jeans, I may buy two different washes of the same jean, especially if I've been having trouble finding the right fit.

I did just buy a striped maxi dress yesterday, and since it was so hard to find what I was looking for, I'm thinking of buying the other color before they're sold out.

I double up very very rarely. In the past, I doubled up by buying fraternal twins (two colors), but anymore I am reconsidering that. Angie once said she only doubles up with identical items (the same shirt, same color) and I'm seeing the wisdom in that. My fraternal-twins-approach always has one favorite and one loser. I think it much more effective to duplicate where you have the same identical item and are duplicating because you wear it so often, you are afraid you are going to wear it out. The only times duplication have worked for me is when it is a wear-all-the-time item, like a basic tee, or when I buy identical jeans and hem one for higher heels and one for lower.

I dont buy exact duplicates but I do buy things that would fill the same hole. Ex: 2 navy tees 1crew and 1 vee.

I have done this in the past. Sometimes it works and sometimes it backfires. I agree that it makes sense to remove laundry bottlenecks. For my jeans, one pair is enough, and I will probably look for a new cut in the Fall. If I buy too many at once, I won't have time to really wear them out before I get tired of them. You really have to know yourself and your needs because it's different for everybody.

Even if my weight doesn't change that much, where I carry it seems to fluctuate. What was a perfect fit one year may not be the same the following year so I may not end up with two tens. :( I HAVE bought the same style in a different color but I am trying to break myself of that lazy habit. I WILL admit to doubling up and more on panties, bras, and today, SmartWool Hide & Seek socks because they were on sale.

Another vote for two 10s if the item gets worn a lot...to Suz's point, extends its life as well as bypassing laundry bottleneck. Especially so if hard to fit like jeans, jackets, shoes.

Yup, I'd definitely stock up on 10's if it's something useful like jeans or tees/blouses. And I've found (and Angie has said this, too) that it's better to buy multiples in the original color of a perfect item. For some reason you almost never wear the alternate color, much as you think you will.

For something as hard to find as perfect jeans...definitely duplicate!

When you find 10s, especially in basics, do you buy doubles? I found great jeans - like the fit, care and price - so almost never reach for my older pairs. Would you buy a second (or even third) pair while they are still in stock? It seems wasteful but the old ones just don't look right anymore in comparison so... Would love to hear your thoughts.
