Probably a good idea. I am constantly having to remind myself not to shop too far ahead or for life I think I am going to have! I'm constantly having all my plans thrown around because of family and work and work travel.

I feel for you, because I totally think the constant major unexpected changes make it really hard to plan ahead. Even expected changes are hard to do a really good job predicting things for. It makes it hard to shop ahead, shop sales, and budget.

Currently I've got an audience for a contract where I'd be out of state on location for 6 weeks this fall, and traveling out of state 2-3 days a week for the rest of August-December (fingers crossed I get it!). Still, it throws a loop in plans, but I guess crazy traveling plans are better than not knowing what the plan is!

I agree that you are being a great with these unexpected changes. I know in my relationship my partner is the one that has to put up with me traveling frequently and being gone for long periods, constantly jumping from contract to contract, and asking him to move for my work. However, in our case it is pretty fair trade with his crazy work schedule (shift work) and unexpected overtime and cancelled plans.

I would wait on the clogs--- I bought a pair last year to replace a pair I wore to death and thought I would use at work. I still love them, but stuble lifestyle changes have meant that they don't get the use that they should, and the color pallette isn't as great as I thought since in the year my wardrobe palette has changed a bit. Same with the coat! There will be a great option when you are ready, or at least a past-season ebay score.

Buying for now is the wisest course. Who knows what one will want in a year, even if it fits or you are in the same climate? You will probably save money in the long run buying for your present situation.

Ah changes, got to love 'em. Climate, body, lifestyle to name a few that I've been through in the last few years.

I try to remember this quote:

Plans are nice, but flexibility is key. Great job shopping your reality. At least you have a major head start on maxis.

Are congratulations in order for the move back to Florida? When does the move take place? I keep wanting to take a trip back up to Tahoe, but alas.

You are wise to delay these things on your list, as satisfying it is to cross things off the lists we make.

I think you should put two new things on your list that you know you will wear right away. You look fantastic in skirts Mo and have many tops so I actually vote for two skirts! http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/vi.....wordsearch

You are wise to acknowledge this change and just move on...kudos to you for being such a good partner...not all of us are as flexible as you. Good luck with the move and I hope you will be rewarded richly during your time in Florida. You deserve it!

That is so sensible though , Mo. Good for you. It must be so crazy to change thinking patterns so often. It's hard enough for me to stick to my wardrobe goals and at least I'm dealing with the same weather patterns and work environment.

Yes, agree about best laid plans! Pregnancy and postpartum and nursing have certainly thrown a monkey wrench in my closet with all the body changes. I just tried to roll with the changes as much as possible. I hope you can find more stuff for your dominant season! At least you have your style down pat for both places!

Yes, I agree that you need to shop for what is happening NOW. I mean, you may not even want those items in a year or two! I have been in closet upheaval for almost 5 years now. We moved from San Diego to Seattle (dominant season change) and from a big house to a small house (serious purging required) and THEN I dropped a size and nothing, I mean NOTHING fit. Even my shoes were too big! Last night I intended to wear some cute summer wedges (from my old San Diego stash) to an outdoor concert and when I put them on...too big! I was sliding dangerously in them. So even my old stand-bys need to be changed. My new strategy is to buy for the moment and the moment a month from now. Who knows what the future holds!

I attempted a 12 for 12 this year that turned out much more like a 24 for 12 lol. But now that fall is coming, I am moving back to FL. On my fall/winter list is a bright colored peacoat and some studded clogs.
I almost got some plum suede Danskos on sale this week but stopped myself. Yes, I love them, and once back in Tahoe will likely wear them for the next 5 or more seasons. BUT . . . that won't be until the winter after this one. How wise is it to buy a pair of shoes that will sit for a full year before being truly utilized?
Likewise, I know I want a red or purple peacoat and have for several years now. But of course I won't need it in FL. I may not even bring my trench.

So, reluctantly I am putting those dream items on hold and focusing instead on what I will wear NOW. This means a wide striped skirt and maybe a knit dress for kicking around the house. The best laid plans . . . right? :)
