I voted yay, it's a fun print. Another subtler option: one of those swingy tanks that has the side panel inset (like below), where the inset is could be doggies. Regardless I have full faith in whatever it is you decide to create :)

Aw, it has my American Eskimo furbaby--white doggie on the right of bottom row of the top pic (that's a lot of prepositions).

Interested to know what you do with the fabric.

I have usually not been a fan of reality photo-quality pics of animals and flowers and such on clothing--too much like those personalized screenprint T's.
I agree with the appeal of the small repeating check pattern and the idea of making it more subtle, and juxtaposed, as a shirred or gathered design rather than a straight-up linear thing like a rectangular T top. Something like the inside of a pleat or gore or even a lining. Unexpected. Dogs peeking out rather than in your face.

Eliza, I understand--I usually go for more diffuse or abstract prints.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a yard of the fabric (that's the minimum order). We'll see. Of course if I make something, I'll show it here!

Funny, I am not literal about fabrics and would have thought this is a non-starter here. Yet, four things make it seem more interesting:
-the images have that current photo realistic quality
-it is possible that unless one is very close to the fabric, it reads as a high contrast design (not necessarily dogs)
-you are likely to wear a topper with it
- your sewing skills are great

Good project to consider.

Yay. It goes towards graphic t-ness, to me. Especially if used as only part (front center panel, yoke, sleeves?) of a top or dress. And you might never know if you don't try it.

Interesting thoughts here--thank you! I appreciate the inspired design ideas. Some of your concerns are similar to mine--I'm not involved with anything related to dogs, and no longer even have a dog. And the dog I had isn't pictured on the fabric. I'm a dog person, though--I like them, and sometimes I feel I'm a bit of a terrier at heart.

The fabric is cute, but I think it will be distracting as fabric for a whole garment. There is just too much going on. I would use it more for something like a scarf (though I suppose it is not the right weight).

I think it would be cool as one panel in a shirt -- so perhaps just the front, with the back and sleeves in a solid color. Because the dogs are b&w, it would be cool if the back was black and the sleeves were something like a super vibrant turquoise or hot pink. Another idea might be for the dogs to be part of a vertical panel in a dress or shirt, with the other panels in a plain fabric. The fact you are drawn to the fabric means there is some great application for you to create.
