Absolutely. I can put together a nice outfit and think it's going to look pretty good - and then look in the mirror and realise my hair is a limp mess and it just wrecks everything.

I have even walked away from clothes in the shops because I know I don't have the right hair to make the look work. My hair styles are improving, but limp fine hair is just difficult to work with at the best of times.

Absolutely! I have super short spiky hair and go for a trim every three weeks. To save megabucks, I color it myself every 6 weeks to keep the gray away. This hairstyle has been my signature look since 1992, with minor variations along the way. My hair gives me a funky, artsy vibe which is a good thing since I'm a part-time design student (and WELL over 35!) My wardrobe is sporty/classic, with LOTS of fun and funk. It all starts with the hair!

Wow, this is such a timely topic. I started making a list of clothes I want for spring, but decided that I was not going to buy anything until after I get my hair cut and coloured at the beginning of September. I was worried that clothes might look wrong with the style and colour I get.
So I guess that's a "no" from me - I can't separate the two!

Definitely! I find that the hairstyle I have also affects the clothes I choose. If I'm wearing my hair shorter and more "done", I like clothes that are more flowy or slouchy. If I'm wearing my hair longer and looser I prefer more structured clothes. Carefully done hair and structured clothes feel too fussy. Loose hair and slouchy clothes feel too sloppy. My hair is longer than it's been in many years and I have more and more tailored clothing.

Absolutely! If my hair is out of control, I feel pretty blah no matter how great everything else is. I'm VERY high maintenance when it comes to my hair! Whenever I see a new hairdresser, I always have to tell them that I am totally willing to spend lots of time on it otherwise they assume that as a SAHM of two, I want low maintenance. Right now, I am in dire need of a haircut which is probably why I have not been feeling that great about anything I wear!

My hair completely influences the way I feel about my style. I would say that my short haircut is quite modern and cheeky, and can range from being quite masculine when it's shorter to very feminine when I grow it out an inch or two. The best thing about having an up-to-date haircut is that I can wear my more retro influenced and feminine style without feeling like I'm wearing a costume.

Getting my hair cut short led me to look at my wardrobe in a completely new light. Everything went from drab to really young and fresh in a split second.

Biscuitmom, I recommended to my clients to get their hair done before I review their closets. THAT'S how much hair affects the way you feel about your outfit. It's an extremely important accessory. Right up there with your specs!

Oh yes my hair can definitely effect how I view my outfit. My naturally wavy hair sometimes looks great and other times like a nest which no amount of curl spray or strategic straightening will sort.

I am going for a short crop in the next couple of weeks and do wonder if my clothes will still feel right after the change. Angie wears mod so well due to her sharp do and Jean looks so sophisticated boho due in part to her lush mane. EEK I'm scaring myself now.

I almost always hate my hair anyway so... Hmm. I always feel sort of crummy about it so when I've had bad cuts in the past I didn't worry too much. It grows back.

This summer I went very short, almost boyish, so it has influenced my style a little in that I dress slightly more femininely. I figured that I felt like I could get away with it, and still look like me, because it balanced out.

Wow, you gals are high maintenance :)

I completely neglect my nails, often forget to wear anything on my face (and if I do it's a tinted moisturizer), and regularly let my brows go bushy (as they are now). I'm always amused when the forum compliments my eyebrows because they usually look pretty bad. I would have to go every 2 weeks to keep them in good form, but I really only go every month at most. Of course I always make sure they are up to scratch before a gathering or meeting Angie!

Absolutely. I always say (and mean it) that I'd rather cut out shopping than have to stop getting my hair done.
I have found my fab stylist and I now look forward to appointments and haven't had to fight with my hair since I first started seeing him nearly a year ago. It's been marvelous, and I haven't looked back since.
In addition, like Rute, eyebrows MUST be done and at least minimal makeup - which lately has included only concealer, sapphire liner, mascara, blush, bronzer for contouring, and a matte red lip. Less than five minutes and I'm set.

Agree with Lisa, but I like Banana's attitude. Bad hair not only sours how I feel about my clothes, but also about myself. I just don't feel confident.

You can have the most polished, fabulous outfit and perfect makeup, and bad hair will just ruin the whole look. That's why I say it is the most powerful accessory you own.

Well, I have terrible hair - thin, fine wispy. I've always felt frumpy in everything due to my hair. I could be turned out in my best clothes, perfect makeup, etc. and still never felt that I looked good.

I've found a stylist that seems to be a good fit with me. I think we're closing in on the right cut/color for me but are not quite there yet. That said, I have made a decision to be more confident about how I look - I can't do much about my hair, but I can present myself to the world with confidence and a smile (even if I am faking it!)

most definitely. I often get dressed right from the shower before drying my hair and I have to remind myself that I can't make judgement yet. Nothing looks great with my hair a wet mess. Similarly, if I don't take the time to make sure my hair is done for the day I feel frumpy all day long. Our hair frames our face and our faces should really be what people see. Our outfits just compliment our pretty faces and bodies.

I have also noticed that when I watch other women, the ones dressed down still look great to me if their hair looks great. If their hair looks shabby, unstyled, or frumpy, it really doesn't matter what they are wearing... they just don't look fab to me.

I really need new fall clothing since I accidently got rid of 90% of mine, but Im hesitant to shop until I get my hair looking decent after my bad cut....literally everything looks awful on me right now. Does your hair greatly influence how you feel you look in your clothes, or are you able to seperate the two? If so, how?
