My favorite is the first printed skirt. Fits really nicely and in the blue colour i think it will really suit you. I prefer it with the shorter blazers in the later photos. The grey blazer would work better with slim trousers or a pencil skirt. The white top feels a bit off with the red/purple skirt, but with the blue skirt it might look better. Not sold on the dark blazers over the shorter dress -- a little overwhelming perhaps? Too dark? The shoes look great, btw. Will you be adding hose? Maybe sheer black and navy?

I think Angie has given great advice. There are no bad outfits here at all, but I do think the first skirt in the blue pattern will work beautifully with the jackets you have. I also love the dark navy sheath dress, it is a beautiful fit.

Best of luck with the job search.

I now checked in the links you have given and both jackets have normal (turned down) lapels but you wear them both turned up in nr 1&5(and so, the fit is off)- think the kid has taken the pictie before you adjusted them down:-(- but then we have to give our opinion on what we can see-, so maybe that's why others think the jackets don't fit?

Very late to this.

I really like the skirt in 1-4 and 15-17 - with the black jacket and with the navy top. It is flattering, modern and I think a really good dressiness level for many offices. The grey jacket is not quite right with it.

I also like the navy dress in 7-8.

My observation is that lengths from just above the knee to a couple of inches below are great on you. I am sure we have talked about tucking (I think from memory we both struggle with it) but it suits you just fine. Maybe my eye has adjusted but I like the proportions.

The first checkered skirt fits you in such a lovely way. High waist, A-line, hem length. I understand the pattern and/or color might not be what you are going for. But if the same size is available in other color, do order! Or keep this one, because the print is actually fun with the right top.

The navy dress also fits your like a dream. You ask where it ranks in terms of formal/casual and I'd say frankly, this is a piece that could pass in both settings. In French, we say passe-partout, like "master key item".
Navy skirt. Nah. Too much fabric, I agree this one hides your beautiful shape. You say you want slight matronely, not nunnish. This one, esp with long blaser, really reminds me of my grand-mother in the days she wanted to become a nun. The navy blazer, however, looks like a keep. Only not with this specific A-line skirt. I can see it well with a flowing max floor grazing pair of slacks. With your hair in an updo, like it is here, it would look smashing.

Outfit #15-17 looks terrific! Outfit #21-22 does too! You have such a lovely figure!

Hi FashIntern! I'm finding your posts very difficult to follow- too many questions in one post and then adding extra pics etc is overwhelming for me.
In this post I like the dark navy sheath dress the best, the length being a bit shorter suits you better to my eye and shows your nice legs. I also like the shoes you have on, even if they might have been ones I didn't vote for before when I was concerned some shoes looked old-ladyish.
I like the print skirt in the Finds colour. That's all I can comment on.
I do wish that you wouldn't twist your foot strangely in some of the pics? Think you once said it minimised your mid-section or something, but your foot won't be twisted IRL and it makes it hard to assess compared with a front-on or side-on view as most Fabbers take photos.
I would like to help but it's tricky.

Can I ask if the lapels in nr 1 and 5 really are turned up(and why) is that their own style detail? They seem a great and flatering cut.

Now off to consider other looks.

ETA: The black dress looks great. needs a tailored shorter jacket like the grey one pumps are great! Love the first (red patterned) skirt and would keep that one for a very smart casual-I don't know your position, but the blue could be styled more severe and bussinessy, if wanted.

I don't like the navy A line skirt for a dynamic image. It looks more stiff, conservative, fussy and somehow too plain and sedentary to my eyes-if you know what I mean, but of course it all depends on what you'll want (and need) to project at your workplace. Shortenning it could make a good difference, but don't see the point, there are so many great skirts out there!

Thanks Suz! Those lengths as a basic guide will be helpful. As I was trying (and apparently failing) to say on your post, I get it now that it isn’t just a binary short/long. Because your topper there clearly is not cropped, I figured it wasn’t short, was therefore long. Thanks for correcting me and explaining the finer divisions.

Adding this from my own thread in answer to your question there:

Fashintern, I'm not sure if there's a guideline for lengths in general but I'm short at 5'4", with a long neck, shortish waist, long rise, shortish legs. On me, a 17 or 18 inch jacket (back length) is cropped, 19 or 20 is short, 22 is high hip, and 25.5 or 26 is low hip. Anything longer would be BF length on me.

Cut affects how it looks. The blazer I'm wearing here is short, not cropped.

I LOVE the first skirt but get the other colour in Finds. That's going to be a great professional look. Add sheer black hose.

Black dress with navy flecked blazer AND grey blazer looks great. Do the sit-down test to make sure it's not too short. Add fun patterned hose in the same palette.

I like #11. Very 2018. Shorten the skirt a few inches. Add fun hose.

Just a quick impression before I am read carefully - the first one with the colorful skirt "suits" you much more than the black suits. You are a vibrant person and I think patterns and color work better to reflect that.

Not Smittie, but I would also lean towards something brighter or more lively with the navy skirt, shortened to just below knee length, or around the length of the print one. What is your favorite color? Brighten up the classic navy with a classy top in an eye catching color or print. Maybe an emerald print, or red/cherry family. Chestnut brown with blue and gold florals?

I love the print skirt. Maybe instead of another dress, you could have both print skirts? The one of “wrong” color with the blazer as shown in 15, and the blue print one with a blue gray cashmere sweater.

Good luck and fun building this new wardrobe. Don’t give up...

Smittie, I bought it already, but think they'd still shorten it for me. How funky do you mean on top? The short blue blazer in the last pix with the star tank find in the original post? Here is a pic of me in the dressing room, when I happened to have that shirt on.It's that shirt and the skirt, but you'll have to imagine the shorter jacket there.

1 more question tonight--back to the idea of the dark, flecked blazer + sheath as my dressiest look (I don't feel like myself in a suit, certainly not the way I do in that blue skirt). I want a sharp sheath to pull it off.

How do I make this look work? Could I do it with either of these and that blazer? They are 100 (blue) and 102 cm (wine) long. (For reference, the dark navy dress in these pix is 98 cm) The blazer is 62.5. My favorite is the one with the pattern (of course), but I don't know if the pattern makes it less businessy.

Or maybe I should give up on that blazer, so it isn't a gorgeous orphan, and wear the grey blazer with one of these and with the navy sweater dress, and the short blue one with the skirts.

I started this out thinking 2 blazers, 2 skirts, 2 dresses. Now it's looking like 3 blazers (short navy, dark navy, and grey), the same skirts, one of the dresses I ordered, and one more dress.

The printed skirt is really great on you. I love the length and where it is sitting. I particularly like it with the blue tshirt, tucked. It looks good with the shorter jacket too.

Did you buy the blue skirt already? I would shorten it to the length of the patterned one. I think it’s a bit plain with the plain dark jacket. I would wear something funky on top.

Suz, I added a couple more pix--the blue skirt with the short jacket. Does that work better?

Suntiger, *I*am better front to back than side to side, lol. I like the dark blazer too, but now am trying to figure out what I can wear it with--seems it's too long for everything here! Pencil skirts are bad on me. I didn't even look at the matching pants in the store.I had planned to wear it with a green sheath dress in this order, but the dress is too small. I guess I should look for another one, or a different simple sheath that isn't as dark as the sweater sheath, to try it with. I'd love to get this one, but even thinking about that price now is a joke.

I like the dress the best but agree about the floral skirt. Either the length should come up a little, or the width narrowed. Its better front to back than from side. I like the darkest blazer best, its definitely the sharpest looking.

I like the shorter jacket with that skirt, yes -- proportions look much better to my eye. I really like that skirt on you!

I agree with the others that something feels "off" in the outfits with the darker skirt. It might be it needs to be a tad shorter. Again, a skirt that style will take a short jacket, not a long one. A pencil skirt or pants will work with longer jackets.

Kathie, I don’t think I’m going to change my mind on skirt colors.

9-14 is all the same skirt.

I knew the grey blazer is too small when I posted the pix, but figured they’re worth looking at to decide if I should get a bigger size or just return it.

Very quickly, and without reading other comments-

I like the skirt in 1-5- the colors seem fun, more "you" and the fit looks good. The sheath dress also looks great on you. The skirts in 9-14 just don't seem quite right- too conservative for you, and more like you're trying to dress for someone else's expectations.

The fit through the shoulders is clearly off in the gray jacket. Of the others, I like the ones in 6 and 12. Good luck with your decisions!

Rachylou, yours makes it at least two votes for shortening the skirt. I have to pick between the grey blazer and the two blue ones towards the end (or I suppose I could return the dark navy one that has flecks).

Should I try the grey blazer over the dress? Might lighten things up a bit.

Suz, jacket lengths are 70 cm (grey), 62.5 (super dark navy) 66 and 57. I’ve added some pictures of the skirt with the shortest jacket (wearing a light colored top so details might show up better). Should I look for something even shorter? I want to cover a range of office dress codes, from fairly formal (but not cpa/jd formal) to biz casual. If things get really casual, I can wear these pieces with the pants in the find.

Kkards, alas, that is where my natural waist is these days. I could go up a size & wear it lower. Glad you like the shoes!

BD, yes, these are definitely not cell-phone friendly pictures, lol! If not a tucked top, then what? Wouldn’t leaving my top out have the same “phone bootherizing” effect as a too-long blazer?

First, these are all really nice outfits. The first skirt is a very nice, au courant length. The dark skirt tho is too long. Your shoes are beautiful. I like the jacket in 5 and like the grey blazer - it’s a shame the fit is off on the grey...

i really like the dress, it's my fav of all items shown. i don't think its casual at all.

i rather like the printed skirt, but wonder if you are wearing it to high on the waist...but take my comments with a grain of salt as i don't really wear skirts.

the black/navy (not sure which color it is) skirt seems to overwhelm you

shoes are great!

I actually like the skirt in #1 a lot! It's really pretty and seems to fit well. The problem's not with the skirt -- it's that the jacket is the wrong proportion. A more cropped jacket would work better with a skirt this style and length. Did you try the shorter blue jacket with that skirt?

I'm having trouble seeing the details of the others so I'm not completely sure what to advise. I'm sorry but I have forgotten what type of position you are taking up. That would help to guide thinking on this.

I like the length of the blazer you are keeping, the other two seem shorter. Not a fan of that gray blazer on you, if you don’t have other blazers I would pick a different color for a second blazer.

I like the print skirt but I’m not a fan of it with the tucked top (or the blazer) you are wearing it with, but perhaps my eyes haven’t adjusted yet to the new silhouette.

I like the dress, not sure about the coat with it but this is a case where seeing it on the computer screen would be better than on my small phone.

My 2 cents. I’d give more credence to more stylish fabbers than I.
