Personally I think this style of pant would look better if it were a little narrower in the thigh before the dramatic flare. Gives more shape. Just my 2 cents.

"Hard to have a waist when you're petite...those internal organs need to fit in somewhere!" --- Mochi, thank you, I'm still giggling and nodding to that! (I'm all of 4'10'')

Una, I LOVE this untucked on you --- it looks even more hourglass-y like that. Not sure why, but maybe because the colour transition at hip level makes a wider line that balances the shoulder line? Of course, tucked certainly looks a lot more leggy. SO I guess the two silhouettes address your two concerns in different proportions --- untucked counters IT better, while tucked balances petite more!

That said, I too have trouble with feeling comfortable and neat when tucked, especially if it's knits, which seem to like to bunch and twist and bulge in all sorts of odd ways. By no means am I a neat freak nor polished --- I used to wear cotton tunics and shirts un-ironed as a teen, much to my mother's great amusement and despair. Yet I feel like untucked and unbelted invariably ends up looking neater on me, figure flattery aside.

And I also wish to learn what makes a statement T-shirt!

(Quite the info-magnetic thread, Una! Thank you for starting it.)

I think it looks great, Una! I hear ya about t-shirt issues.

I think what Angie means is that if your are only going to wear one layer on top, she prefers a step up from tees.

The wide leg jeans and a tucked top are a good combination - the belt is giving you a waist line and you do look hourglass. What if the tshirt were a tucked blouse instead?
Maybe you don't do the t with these jeans but the silhouette is working for me too.

I like it tucked, Una. I do think it lengthens your legs and, rather than looking like someone with "no waist" you look rather "slim hipped" to me, which is great for wide leg pants.

The color is amazing and it gives you a great shape tucked. Actually I see that it gives you a great shape untucked, but the outfit is better tucked in my opinion. Either way, I certainly don't see short and stocky, although I do certainly empathize with how a couple of pounds can affect the self-perception of us who are the not so tall.

Rita, t-shirts are my enemy too - either the shoulder or the neckline are off, and if those work the bust and belly area are too tight. Bleah. However, there actually are summer days here, and I feel I need a couple of casual short sleeve tops to wear with shorts and skirts.

Thanks for the input and kind words, everyone! I have to admit I untucked and wore a light coat over this for errands. It is 45 degrees today - people are out in short sleeves!

Angie, what do mean by statement t-shirt? I think of this as a plain old t-shirt, but perhaps I'm mistaken?

I would never guess to look at the pic that you are a petite. The outfit (especially tucked) give a very long legline. I like both but really like tucked.

Reiterating that I love the t-shirt's color on you. I don't know, if it were me, and this particular outfit, I wouldn't overanalyze it--just keep it for a fun look for when you're tired of your go-to skinnies. (But that's just me, perhaps lowering the bar?) I do hear you on the lack of waist issue. Hard to have a waist when you're petite...those internal organs need to fit in somewhere!

I like both pieces on you. Worn together, I suggest tucking the top to lengthen the leg line. To give it more of the 1/3 to 2/3 proportion rather than a 50-50 look.

No issues at all with the shoulders in that top.

EDIT: and Jayne is right, very hourglass, even proportions in this. Maybe the flares add a perfect balance?

I'm having some body dysmorphia issues after gaining back a couple of pounds. Bleh. And I'm going through another purge as I sort through spring clothes.

Just picked up this James Perse t-shirt on sale - I'm not a t wearer because I find them so hard to fit. Worn with old 7FAMK wideleg/flares. Am I too short and stocky to pull this off? I'm not used to the widelegs but I'd really like a little variety from my steady diet of skinnies...

ETA; Tucked photo. This is a very uncomfortable look for me mentally. I feel like my torso is short and thick and of course, I have no waist. How do those of you who tuck into pants keep everything from bagging or twisting in the waist area?!?
