I really wasn't fishing for the compliments. I've been a big music fan all my life (the first concert I saw was the Beatles -- I was a young girl, and I think we all wore dresses while standing on the chairs). As I've gotten older and older, the rest of the audience hasn't, and I've worried for a long time that I was just embarrassing myself and whomever I was with by the simple act of being there while being old. For much of this time, I dressed in very corporate black suits for my day job and then swapped the skirts out for black jeans or leggings before heading to the show. I do remember getting the evil eye from the CEO one day when I was full-on goth before a NIN concert in the 90s. <br />(Btw, my son is 35 now, so if you're that age or a bit younger, you'd know him as the frontman of a pioneering screamo band of the early oughts. That look was entirely t-shirts, skinnies and converse.
