I like the tee on you and agree that you might as well keep it with those shipping rates. I understand it's not quite the fit you were hoping for and that's a bummer.

You might also be able to stretch it carefully when it is wet (and then air dry). Just in that area. Because it is knit, at least it will not bind.

JCrew is always a mixed sizing bag for me, particularly with tops (bottoms seem much more consistent). If you keep it (those shipping rates, though!) could be fun to play with as a layering piece to add a little extra movement to an outfit without adding much bulk.

Hmm, I might stalk it and size up - it would be great on it's own in a larger size and you can keep both and wear different ways.

Everyone: thanks so much for your comments! Sounds like j crew are a mixed bag at the moment in terms of sizing! I’ve decided I will keep the tee, wearing it under little jackets or short sweaters as an interesting layering piece, rather than on its own :). A couple of accessories and voila- an outfit. Thanks again guys

I agree with others that the shoulders look a bit snug and sizing up would give you the vibe of the photos. Bummer that the shipping makes this cost prohibitive! I am always interested to know what brands/fits are snug in the shoulders, as that is *always* what is tight for me in tops and jackets before anything else.

I just tried in the jcrew store their open-front sweater-blazer. A small fit my big shoulders perfectly, and I would have expected to need a medium in a cut like that.... Decided against purchasing because the pocket placement added the illusion of about 20 extra pounds around my hips. Even my DH couldn’t resist saying that, when I asked for his opinion, ( since blazers rarely fit my shoulders) and he knows I knew that it was just a judgment of the garment style and not of me.

In store it also comes in powder blue and blush pink. Very nice colors. Perfect blazer for the narrow hipped among us.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that jcrew may be generally transitioning to more roomy fits and the narrow shoulders top you (Jussie) purchased might actually be more of an exception than the new normal.

Jussie, it looks as if the shoulders are a bit too small. But it's hard for me to see because of how difficult it is to photograph dark colours. How frustrating to order and find it's not quite the right size!

The other thing I ought to have told you with J. Crew is to read the reviews really carefully. Sometimes you get good information there about how the item fits IRL on various body types -- reviewers often give their weight and height (which helps) and mention other factors. J. Crew makes several fits -- some items are cut much smaller/ narrower than others (especially with the knits) and it pays to read the product description and compare to the reviews.

The style of the top is beautiful. I do think the shoulders look a bit too small, though. Do you think you need 2 sizes up because of the shoulders? I wonderful if you would then end up with too much fabric around your middle? I think the slim fit of this shirt looks really good on you.

Overall it is a nice silhouette and I agree that slouchy vs fitted is a matter of taste.

Those shoulder seams look substantially too small though — to the point where I am not sure going up a size would solve it. Are they comfortable for you? I admit I am kind of fussy about this sort of thing and that much off would drive me nuts.

That is a really nice neckline on you.

Hi guys; thanks for your replies. Yeah it looks a lot more slouchy on the model, which I prefer. In fact that’s what attracted me to this tee shirt so much in the first place. If I was looking for a tight tee shirt then it would be fine, but that wasn’t really what I was after. Also I feel like for it to be this fitted the peplum ought to start a little higher up, on the narrower part of the waist?
But then again its down to personal taste really, some people like fitted tops.
I may be able to use it in some interesting layering ways.....
Although to get it shipped here was only $7AUd, to return it would be $35AUD..... gah! I thought it would be around $20AUD.
However a useful excercise- because now I know what size I need from JCrew in future if I brave international shipping again. Ever.

The only part that appears slightly too fitted is the shoulders and sleeves. The seams don't reach the edges of your shoulders, and it appears the sleeves are form-fitting. But the body of the top looks fine.

Hmm, it's much more slouchy on the model. Were you looking for that kind of relaxed fit? The gathered detail is more apparent with a little more ease...

Hi guys, I’d be so grateful if people could advise me on the fit of this j crew tee. To my eye it’s a fraction too small, but I’d be keen to hear other people’s thoughts. Also I realize my white bra can be seen through it- just a quick try on.
Thank you so much,
