Thanks again! It's really, really good to get everyone's take here.

efbgen, I definitely feel very elegant in #4, and if the weather allows I'll go with it (it needs to be warm enough that the jacket would be enough outdoors).

jussie, that's interesting! That sweater is still a contender because it's so easy to layer under a coat.

The Cat, so glad the last one looks good! It's my personal favorite of the bunch, but also the one that makes me wonder if I'm going too far. It is a conference where there will be some artsy types, so it won't be totally out of place... I think!

#5/6 is fantastic. (Not to busy/quirky.) Elegant in a unique way. Go for it if you want to impress! #4 is more sporty, but also very nice.

Each of them works....just depends what look you would like to create. Probably if it were me I would go with the second sweater from the first set of pics, but that’s just a personal taste thing. All are good!

All 3 looks work. 4 is beyond fabulous.
I like the sweater look in 1 but 2&3 makes me wonder if belt might help better showcase your great figure
I would have never thought to try 5/6 either but it certainly works
Great job on working that beautiful skirt

OK, now some other topper options...

#1, 2, 3 is an open-front fluffy-yarn oatmeal cardi from H&M. It has that oversized, dropped-shoulder cut. A bit on the frumpy side? Advantage: it's warm and cozy and easy to wear under a winter coat.

#4 is a faux-leather cream jacket from Zara from a few years ago. Problem with this: would be hard to layer under a winter coat, but there's a chance the weather will be a bit warmer by then and it could be my outerwear.

# 5, 6. It's a fine-wale cord jacket with a paisley print in jewel tones. I tried it on not expecting much, but to my surprise I kind of like it. I think the shape/cut is perfect with the skirt, I'm just wondering if it's too busy/quirky?

Katerina, thank you! It definitely fits my tastes and way of dressing!

krishnidoux, you hit the nail in the head! I hadn't realized this is what was bothering me, i.e. the outfit is missing something to make it pop. I guess that's why I was a bit disappointed when I put it on. I'll have to dust off my earring collection (and hope that A) my holes haven't closed up; B) my ears don't react to an earring after years of not wearing one...) Or would a necklace work?

Yes, it's nice!
I tried to put myself in your shoes and imagine why the outfit would sound exciting in theory and you would feel a sort of let down once on (if I understand well what you are saying).
I think you would like an accessory, a third piece like jewel, hat, purse, belt... something that would pick up the burgundy or the orange, and/or even bring a third color.
But I find the outfit brilliant as is also. And the neutral turtleneck topper is very cute too.

Thanks, everyone! So happy that this outfit works. I have an event this coming week and was planning on wearing this.

Barbara Diane, thanks!

Angie, so glad you approve Whenever I get dressed I always wonder, What would Angie think?... (on some less inspired days, my answer is something like, I hope Angie would never see me in this...)

jussie, I love your offbeat comment--it definitely suits my personality and my tastes! (And even the professional event I'm attending--I always feel like an outsider as my work is also offbeat--so this is perfect :) )

Cardiff girl, yes, I remember Angie's post--I loved it since this is one of my favorite combos--but in this case I wasn't sure about the shape, drape, fit, proportions of things (not so much the color).

The Cat, yes--I am not happy about hiding my pumpkin top (which was a HUGE trouble to find in the first place!). I might come back here with other topper options. I'm terrible with toppers (both in terms of having options and styling what I have).

unfrumped, interesting comment about Fall colors... right now our Spring is feeling just like Winter, so I might as well evoke my favorite season.

Jane, I also love food-inspired colors!!! Anything that is called vanilla, toffee, chocolate, caramel, berry... (I've also worn outfits that remind me of shortbread or a chocolate sundae )

Now on to finding some topper options in my wardrobe...

Yes # 1 looks great, especially good with your coloring- a very rich, warm fall color look.
I also really like the first gray sweater, sort of cropped, as the proportions are very pleasing, perhaps conventionally so but works great and give a different option for the skirt.

#1 is gorgeous! I think it would be a pity to hide that beautiful colour combo under another turtleneck, and suggest a cardigan, blazer, bomber jacket or another kind of jacket, worn open.

efbgen, my pics are very bad in terms of color accuracy. I really should get a better camera and maybe a little tripod because I can never represent my clothes accurately here! (also the iPhone never focuses where I want it to...) I'm happy to hear the skirt looks good! The skirt shape is probably what I'm second-guessing the most. I love it personally but I haven't seen a lot of swishy skirts like this so it made me wonder...

lisa p., thank you! I love your style so I appreciate your comment. Interesting re: the gray sweater. In theory I thought the second one would be best, and I only put on the first on a whim. Surprisingly the volume works better than the long and lean lines of the second.

I think so. Knowing nothing about photography the pictures have a brightness to them that makes determining if colors in #1- go or clash difficult to tell for sure. But on a glance it seems so- maybe in daylight?
That said- what a great skirt. I think all the tops look fab with it.
It has to warm up soon.

Does this outfit work to your eyes? It's a thin jersey turtleneck (pumpkin-colored) with a burgundy velvet skirt, plus burgundy tights and burgundy sock booties.

I like it in theory but I once I put it on I second-guessed myself.

Also I am trying to figure out a topper since it's still cold where I live. Considering one of these two gray turtlenecks as a topper if it gets chilly inside (with a winter or raincoat on top of it all).

Help...! And thanks!
