I noticed I used to have a more round face, but I'm starting to be more oval - I like it

Yes I think so. When we are younger our face tends to be chubbier, fuller lips etc. But as we gradually age, our cheeks tend to be less chubby and more boney, lips tend to lose its youth and be thinner. The whole outlook of the face is changed a little daily though not drastically.

I'm definitely noticing my face changing shape in recent years. Sadly, it's the hereditary jawline sag issue (my mom lamented it, and my sister too). I feel like it's the one thing about my face that truly gives away my age, and it bothers me to the degree where I might consider doing something about it, but I'm not sure.

I've started smiling for pictures whenever possible, because that's the only thing that seems to hide it!

My face is already a pear shape at 29, I hven't thought my jawline could get wider with age... Anyway, here are some styling suggestions for this face shape (she calls it triangle though): http://www.style-makeover-hq.c.....shape.html

The face AND the body changes. The main change I noticed is the fine lines appearing around my eyes and laugh lines. I have lost quite a lot of weight within the past few yeas so may face is thinner and bit gaunter (is this a word?) but then I always had a thin face when the rest of me was pretty big. Luckily I haven't noticed any changes in my neck area just yet so maybe it has to do with exercises I do like crunches that are strengthening my neck muscles a bit.

Mine has. I had a round face when I was young; by my early thirties, it had become oval and suddenly the angles of my jaw and cheekbones were visible. A lot of the subcutaneous fat has gone! Which is both good and bad, I suppose.

I've noticed that there seem to be two options when it comes to facial aging. Either you lose fat, and your face gets thinner and lined; or else the fat stays put, which helps fill out the creases, but then everything heads south, resulting in jowls. I think it all has to do with loss of collagen. Neither option is appealing, but whatareyagonnado?

pfft, mine sure has!! i'm 50, my face is longer and the bones/structure shows more now. Could be due to a couple of molars i've had pulled tho - lots of fun to show the holes to kids in the supermarket pestering their mom to buy them sugar! :)

I agree with everything Gaylene said.

Robert Jones is a makeup artist who i've found gives great advice on face contouring, with very easy to understand illustrations. I like his book "Looking Younger". My only caveat is that he really spackles it on! But you can achieve the same contouring effects by using a sheer or matte bronzer or foundation just 2-3 shades darker than you skintone with a blending sponge. Here's his website:

http://www.robertjonesbeauty.com/rjba_educate.htm

my other rule of thumb is to just try to tone things down a bit - trying to completely eradicate whatever it is that bugs you generally ends up badly. Have fun! steph

Yup, your face changes along with the rest of your body as you age-- and it's not just wrinkles! Although I've never heard of a "pear" face shape, that's not a bad description of what happens to an oval shape when your facial skin starts to lose elasticity and begins to droop around the jaw and neck areas. Short of surgery, there is not much you can do to regain your youthful contours.

For many of us, this means we treat high necklines, like turtlenecks, with caution; we look for a flattering haircut that draws attention away from the jaw line; we choose glass frames that "lift" at the bottom outside corners; and we choose accessories and necklines that elongate our necks instead of bisecting them.

And the best exercise is to smile more frequently-- it's a non-surgical face lift!

I digested Suzs' style relevation and went to the sites she mentioned and learned so much. Thank you Suz for your thread. Along the way, I got caught up in the Chic Fasionista site in the face shape section. I had always thought I had an oval face shape but after careful analysis and measuring, I think it has now become a pear. I could not find any help for glasses, hair, accessories, etc. for a pear shape. Has this ever been addressed anywhere that you know of? And is there a pear face shape?
