Susan you mention permanent eyeliner. How long have you had that and how often do you have it touched up? Very intriguing.

I also will add that the peeling is only about 5% of the time for me now. My theory is that the peeling is a point in the cycle of the skin. The rest of the time I have no problem at all. When I peel I just use my Anew glycolic peel pads or a warm washcloth.

Marlene-I am going to use your omelet analogy!

I agree...either you will do a massive peel all at once or do more of a long-term peel over time. Either way...there will be peeling. I am on a low-dose of the retinol and my peeling is lesser...but has gone on for what feels like ages! But I am VERY happy with all my new, fresh skin. If you want to make an omelet, you need to scramble a few eggs.

Susan
I am not going to lie and tell you that you won't peel a little with Retin A. You will. But you will be getting fresh new skin underneath! Your derm can also work with you to limit the peeling. You can use it every other night or every 2 and you can start out with a really weak dose. Believe me-you will get used to it and build up. You will see drastic changes in your skin over the next couple years with this. As your friend's wrinkles start to form you will not get any and your old ones will start to vanish! Seriously this is a miraculous product and I urge you to try it. Retinoids/retinols are the ONLY proven wrinkle reducer out there. It also evens and smooths the texture and helps to reduce the appearance of pores. So worth it!

I chickened out on the blue peel at Obagi's. I thought I would wait a couple of years until my kids are a little older and I can get away with staying in for a couple of weeks.

The peeling and so called "ugly phase" that comes with using these products scares me...I am not sure it is really worth it!

I am going to have to weigh the pros and cons.

If I could take 2 weeks off to sit home and peel in the privacy of my own home I would do it!

I use the Obagi skin care line and have noticed a definite improvement in the look of my skin. I bought it for myself from my dermatologist for my birthday in February.

Its a 5 step process....wash/tone/"clear"/exfoliate/sunscreen. The exfoliate step is Part A in the morning and Part B (blended with retinol from the derm) in the evening. No need for the sunscreen at night.

The end result is simular to the big peel you get at the derm office but it takes weeks instead of hours. The idea is that it allows faster turnover of skin cells, forcing your skin to heal itself using its own natural process.

What I have noticed, is that my sun spots have disappeared, fine lines are lessened, pores appear smaller, even skin tone, bumpy acne areas are smoothed out, skin seems firmer somehow. I've been very happy with the results. I'm still on the program since I am hoping to lessen some of the deeper wrinkles around my mouth.

Yes, it is expensive but using the skin care line is cheaper than going through a major peel at the derm office. It does take time and patience though...you need to live through weeks of intense peeling. But now I've been through the worst of it and I'm pretty happy with the results.

I have a friend who used the Obagi blue peel. She has skin similar to yours.. It is quite an intense peel and mut be done in the office...but her results were great and she said her skin has never been better. 2weeks of recovery for complete healing I think.

I have used some of her products before and they are good. I had an appointment in her office to see about preventative/cosmetic care several years ago and the regime that they gave me was a great one. I have been doing it faithfully and show little to no wrinkling and I am 42. I have tweaked it to use less $$ brands.

Basically there are 5 vital things to use:
Sunscreen. Extremely important. You cannot have youthful skin without this. In the summer I use Clinique City Block because it has antidioxidants in it and I can skip using serum. I highly rec this.

antidioxidant serum. A popular one is Skinceuticals Vit C serum but it is $$. I have heard the OLAY Daily Reg. Serum does the trick too.

Something to remove the dead skin cells that build up. I LOVE Avon Renew Retexturizing Peel. It has the highest amt of Glycolic Acid (10%) that you can get without a prescription. This wins tons of beauty awards also.

Retin A (or some other retinoid lotion) I cannot emphasize enough how great this is and how much of a difference this has made in my skin. I believe that everyone should be using this product.

Moisturizer

There is a really good site that I follow called http://www.makeupalley.com. Go to boards and then choose skincare. These ladies really know what they are talking about. If you did a search for Obagi you would find a lot I bet. You can also ask them ?'s.

I was at the Esthetician last week to get my permanent eyeliner touched up. I asked her for recommendations on facial products for me.

I have clogged pores/blackheads and haven't found anything to help me. I of course also have sun damage resulting in brown spots and fine lines and wrinkles ...YEAH...the trifecta!

She recommended Obagi Nu Derm's line of products. They are very expensive and I hesitate to spend that much money, but I am willing if I find out good things about their products.

I searched the forum archives and found one thread that mentioned Obagi and read that "Help Me" was recommended for acne scarring, etc. I don't have a scaring issue, but maybe "Help Me" is also good for other skin related issues.

Any recommendations or reviews would be really appreciated!

Thanks, Susan D
