Thanks for those extra links Kate - more reading to do! I attempted to dye a cotton knit top yesterday and it didnt turn out quite how I wanted it to - it's got some multi colored striped on a cream background and silly me thought the stripes would dye along with the background! So I'm not going to give up though I am going to try to dye it black and see how it looks.

Yes, it's the best! For me it was also pretty easy to get started - there are so many tutorials and whatnot online, but I also like working with my hands so that certainly helped. For those who are interested you could also try taking a class if you need some guidance!

Here are some of my favorite blogs:

http://www.madebylex.com/
http://makeitandloveit.blogspot.com/

And other tutorials:

http://mooneatsun.blogspot.com.....cking.html
http://www.younghouselove.com/.....ed-to-dye/
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/p.....-t-shirt_2

I have oh so many more, but I'll show some restraint. There is so much awesome stuff out there!

I've found that the only clothes that can't be refashioned are the ones that just aren't a good color for me and can't be dyed or bleached to a better color. Last weekend I actually attacked the majority of my black cotton tops with some diluted bleach and succeeded in turning them all brown - it worked MUCH better than I ever imagined!

I'm altering a lot of pieces to make them fit better. As for refashioning them into something different I sometimes try that, but only if I think it will really look good in the end. I don't think there is any merit in refashioning for its own sake. The results are sometimes sooo ugly.

Most often I use old clothes in pretty fabrics to sew something for my daughter.

Yup, although I'm just starting on the refashioning; I've always been a little scared to mess with stuff I've purchased (and, yet I'm totally fine making up my own crap, go figure.)

Yeah Queenie some of them are shocking I almost feel like directing some of them onto this website for help on styling!

Susan my mother was an expert sewer and the few things that I did pick up from her I have since forgotten so starting from scratch again. I am actually contemplating taking a class so I can get my skills back to a more professional level rather than just hacking things like I do now

Yes, thanks for this webpage. I actually started to teach myself to sew so I could do my own alterations but now I want to learn to make more. It's strangely relaxing and fun!

I like to refashion too! I skinny, I dye, I take off pockets or buttons, etc.. I have a skirt that used to be a shirt! I sew from patterns too, although I only have one or two items that really turned out well enough to wear. I'll check out the website, thanks!

okay, I get it... it's a bunch of different people submitting their refashions. I'm a bit slow.... good ideas there, thanks for sharing. I do have plans to skinnify a pair of jeans after seeing you and Theresa do it. (I tried it a while back but hadn't figured out the trick of putting them on inside out to pin them so I just kept frustrating myself... like I said.... i'm a bit slow

Well, you know I do LOL

I've admired Wardrobe Refashion from time to time myself too! I don't like all the things they do, but I like the inspiration.

A few years ago I took her 2 Month pledge, and enjoyed it.

interesting website. I have to say I'm unimpressed with her modeling of the ruffled scarf, but I scrolled down and saw that she does have some cute ideas. That dress that she added the smocking to was genious!

Got me thinking on another post of mine - where I skinnied up some jeans - if anyone else is into this as well? I draw massive amounts of inspiration from Wardrobe Refashion website and always head there if 'm stuck for any ideas about how to make use of those wardrobe orphans
