It sounds like it was really useful for you. I don’t think I want to limit the number of pieces I use, but I am back to creating outfits. I’m not strict about them, but it’s helpful to have a bunch ready to go. I don’t choose shoes, bag or accessories until I get dressed so that allows just enough choice for the day. My 30 will start with tops, bottoms, and indoor toppers only. I plan to exclude footwear, underlayers for warmth, coats, scarves and other accessories. I also will exchange out pieces that are not working for something else. My capsule is for cold weather. If, by some miracle, the weather should get too warm for my capsule, I reserve the right to use less warm items. This time of year is heavy on woolies, and that is what I am planning to have in heavy rotation, but I have some items for the occasional warmer day. I will only be in trouble if the warming trend turns into a week or more. I am looking forward to finding out what I want to repeat and what I never want to reach for. I was planning to do another 30x30 after the Florida Fall one, this time with different colors and aimed at weather that can be actually chilly. But one of the things I “discovered” in my last one is that i just don’t get dressed often enough. I sputtered out after about 25 items, and maybe that many “dressed” days. Toban, congrats on the weight loss! I had taken 40 off before I started here, but have put some back on. Winter is the time of year that it’s easiest for me to lose in Florida, so I’m gearing up for one last push, hoping to get to my size goals by spring. Like you, I’m resisting buying any new clothes. I have some ideas about how to adapt the fall capsule I came up with to different climate and weight. I’m still on the fence about participating now. I hadn’t realized how small, but my count today was 23 pieces, excluding outwear and activewear that is worn only to exercise. I have 7 pairs of shoes in regular rotation right now. So, these are the 30 by default. My plan for this challenge is to use these items, and a handful of scarves and numerous necklaces for the next 6 weeks and try to figure out what I keep reaching for and where I wish for more variety. I have to completely rebuild my spring/summer wardrobe, so I am trying to figure out priorities for this rebuild. Both in terms of tricks that I have copied from her, and also in terms of decisions where I have decided to disregard her strategies and ideas. I'm thinking maybe I should make a full post about it, rather than hijacking your thread. Hmm. I'm thinking about what would be a good 30 X 30 challenge for me. For the traditional challenge I have a tight cohesive winter wardrobe and I think that I'm layering for warmth too much to have me stay sane keeping track of a precise 30. I definitely want to do it in summer because I have way too many summer clothes that I'm ambivalent about. For January I think that I want to wear a different nonessential accessory every day: earrings, indoor scarves, brooches, etc.... I have a lot of interesting accessories but I tend to get overwhelmed during mitten and woolen hat seasons and stick to the same few easy pendant necklaces. Anything that is appropriate for winter and doesn't get worn in January or which I find I'm not enjoying it while wearing it will be highly suspect. Those items I will plan to get swapped with friends and family or donated.
