Lisa, I am so happy you got the debit card. I know you were itchin' to jump in on NAS. This Nordies debit card sounds like a great deal.

Taylor, I agree with you about not liking debit cards b/c I don't like my checking account info to be available. I do not have a checking account linked to my paypal (I just use a credit card link) for that reason.

The other issue is that credit cards tend to have MUCH better theft protection than debit cards do, although I don't know what Nordie's policy is for this. Basically, a credit card company will put a freeze on your account the moment they detect something funny and will generally just issue you a new card # if they even so much as suspect something is up. (This has happened to me because someone made a 1cent purchase with my card # followed by something larger and very random. The company took off all the mysterious charges and gave me a new card.) A debit card on the other hand tends to have a lot less protection, in part because small banks don't generally automatically scan purchases and such for suspicious activity, so you have to monitor it very carefully yourself.

FWIW, I pay for almost everything with credit and pay my entire bill every month. I treat it like cash. I just like the credit card for the protection and convenience.

For those wary of your checking account info being out there, you can open a designated checking account to link the card to. The checking account can also double as a shopping budget account. Two birds with one stone - your main checking account isn't exposed and you can control your spending with how much you deposit in the account.

If you have a major bank like Bank of America, you can usually open an account online for free and easily move money around with online transfers.

I finally caved and just opened one up the other day. I can shop all of NAS with the card right away. There is a daily spending limit of $600 which will get increased after they see your spending habits over time. I had the SA call and override so I could shop more because I do a large volume of shopping during NAS. (It's stock up time for me and the selection this year was really, really good at least I thought so) I needed my DL and a check to open the card in the store. Took not even 5 minutes.

Steph, you can only use the debit card at Nordstrom stores... but that includes Nordstrom Rack, the espresso bar, and the cafe.

Taylor, I know what you mean--there is something scary about having your checking account number out there. Having said that, I may just go for it. Thanks for the feedback! Mariana and Marley--can it be used for purchases other than Nordstrom?

I have one - and NO, there is no catch. It works just like a debit card - it comes out of your checking account in less than 24 hours, no annual fees - what they told you is ALL true. I really like it as opposed to a credit card - and I highly recommend it if you are a Nordies shopper because you earn points when you use it, as opposed to your regular debit card. Its a Win-Win!

I have one and it's GREAT! I use it for all my Nordies purchases (Rack and restaurants too). The debit comes out of your checking account about 3-4 days after a purchase (takes a few days to route to your bank). No catch involved. I love it because I am still able to earn Nordstrom Notes without using credit! Total win-win situation. Highly recommended.

I went to Nordstrom today and they asked if I wanted to get a Nordstrom debit card (as opposed to credit card), so I could take advantage of the presale. From what they say, they open it immediately, it doesn't require a credit check, and there are no associated fees. It comes straight out of your checking account, so you don't have to worry about forgetting to pay the bill and incurring late charges (this is my weakness with store credit cards, because I rarely use them--I forget when I have used it and have to pay!). I guess I'm a cynic, but I'm trying to figure out if there is a catch somewhere. Does anyone have one?
