I wear them and they are very chic if they are high waisted and roomy around the thighs. I have a fantastic pair from Saint-James (pronounce sain xhawm). In French, these are called "pantacourt" http://www.saint-james.fr/pant.....d=00002546
I usually pair them with a little heel.

If they are high waisted and skinny, they look very 1950's like.

I wear capris - like the length shown in El Cee's post. True, I've never taken a snap. They're part of my 'plain office wear' capsule and are black trouser material. Got them at Macy's...

I think a pair of well cut capri pant is not frumpy at all. Probably is not the trendiest length this year (cropped pants and coulottes are everywhere), but they are a classico IMO.

A few years ago there was a knee to just below the knee slim denim short/jean that we called clam diggers. They were my "shorts" and I still have a couple of them. The key is a close fit to the thigh. I have cut off skinny jeans to make these when I could not find them.
Another idea is cargo pants in cotton, rayon, or something silky and rolled or hemmed to the length that you want.

I have one pair that's black and tight, and ends just below the knee. They are also fairly high rise, so I wear them in outfits where I kind of have a modernized audrey hepburn in mind in terms of footwear and tops: http://assets-prod.harpersbaza.....epburn.jpg

I used to like the cargo ones for hiking a lot, but I agree that in general capris are tricky to find in fits, colors, and brands that seem current. I see leggings that length a lot as gym wear/yoga pants too.

Yes… I wear them a lot in the heat of summer. I have three pairs of old lightweight cargo capris -- loose, comfy and great for camping, hiking and gardening. I also have a couple pairs of fitted capri length jeans (blue denim) and just bought one more (in white -- labelled as crop jeans but definitely capri length on me). I sometimes like these as an alternative to bermuda shorts… especially when going out for a casual dinner. (I do not personally like wearing shorts to a restaurant.)

I have several pairs of capri-length yoga pants -- In the past I've had pairs that hit below the kneecap but the ones I have now hit just below my calf. I think what you want to avoid, from a figure-flattery perspective, is anything that bisects the widest part of your calf.

It sounds, though, like maybe what you need is a pair of culottes. I think the wider leg will feel more intentional and on-trend, decidedly not sporty so more versatile in that sense. I'm excited about the emergence of lots of loose-yet-structured garments this season -- seems perfect for creating a summer wardrobe that is comfortable without being sloppy or overly casual. I'd love to find a pair of culottes for myself, but haven't found any that fit well in a color/fabrication that I like. Getting a good hip/waist fit with culottes I think is essential, and so hard...

Yes, I have several pair that are a few years old--mine are from Eddie Bauer, where I've also had good luck with shorts. I'm planning to wear them this summer though they might not be considered the most fashionable length.

I wear them. I think of them as long shorts. I wear shorts, too. I just bought some at Kohl's (Lees maybe?) and wore them in Texas, where it was VERY hot and humid. With that kind of weather I certainly couldn't wear jeans. We were doing heavy lifting, etc., to empty a house and storage units. It was a lot of fun, as you can imagine. I got so sweaty and dirty that nothing could be worn more than once.

I bought a dark denim, navy, white, and a navy and white small geometric pattern in crops. In shorts I bought white, grey, and olive. The shorts were cargo length.

I wear yoga pant capris in warm weather. I think they look pretty good with a tank. I also have Eddie Bauer capris that aren't cargo, exactly, but they are definitely sporty. When it's stinking hot, that's what I wear.

Do you wear any kind of pants that are longer than Bermuda shorts, and shorter than ankle pants or what generally referred to as crops (usually 2 to 4 or so inches above ankles) ? These seem to be called capris on most sites I am searching on. I never have seen anyone on here showing anything they called capris on the WIW's. I am of the impression that the word CAPRIS are a frumpy or bad thing, Right?

However when anything that hits the leg somewhere from below knees to about 4 inches above ankles is OK if it is very sporty like cargos or athletic wear. Also not easy to find in anything other than 5 pocket jeans type, or looser fitting, or somewhat wider leg, or bright colors and brands like Karen Scott, etc.

It looks like this is what all the problems arising about what to wear in hotter weather when one does not want to wear shorts, and all the complaints about linen trousers having draw string waists, etc. I would solve my hot weather problems with CAPRIS if I could find something made of a decent hot weather fabric, and was not butt baggy, too loose on legs, fit thru hips, had pockets, and came in colors like black, taupe, grey, navy or such. also not expensive as they would only get worn a few times a year. But there arises occasions in hot months when one has to wear something other than sporty and suitable for some outdoor time. This is where getting old sucks!
