Thank you all for commenting. Are there any specific colours (i. e. yellow or pink) that are considered to be Easter colours in the country or region where you live?

Oh yes! Pastels, pale or bright, in solids, florals, stripes, and bright patterns are very much a part of Easter dressing up. Even many of the men at our church were sporting bright and lighter pastels shirts and bow ties yesterday.

I live in Scandinavia, and it appears most people don't wear Easter colours here. People decorate their homes, but it doesn't seem to transfer to their clothing. It might be because Easter isn't that much of a big deal here. Personally I like to throw on something pastel coloured when it's Easter, simply because I so love the spring colour scheme.

A very interesting question. I don't think we have any special Easter customs when it comes to clothing. People decorate their homes with Easter themed decorations, but that's about it.

I like to wear a new outfit and dress up a bit for Easter, though, either by combining existing items in a new way or by buying something new. This probably stems from my childhood, because we always went to my mother's hometown for food blessing on Easter Saturday, and people there wore very nice clothes to church (at least on holidays).
Which meant that mother took me shopping before Easter every year, so that I had something nice and new to wear for the occasion.

So now, many years later, I still use holidays as an excuse to dress up or buy something nice to wear.

Liz and Jenni NZ, I live in Scandinavia.
Here, too, Easter coincides with spring. But of course, Easter is only a relatively small part of spring. I say "relatively" because many people in Scandinavia actually have a 10 - ten (!) - days Easter vacation.

As for myself, I don't celebrate Easter. And as I don't want to feel part of a decoration for a holiday I don't celebrate, I just don't wear yellow around Easter. This helps me avoid getting comments like the ones I mentioned at the beginning and apparently helps people to focus on what I'm saying instead on what I'm wearing. (A real benefit if you have something serious or important to say. )

I would like to add that I:
- fully respect others' right to wear whatever colours they prefer
- have nothing against yellow. To me, it is a spring colour, and I will happily wear it until a couple of days before Easter and then again a couple of days after Easter
- find it ever fascinating to see the impact that colours have on people and to hear about which feelings and associations certain colours evoke

Sort of, not exactly. I think of Easter colours as chalky pastels, but they're too pale for the environs. You don't see much of them around, as clothes or otherwise. But I do crack out the same colours in deeper shades - and the florals.

Mind tho, reality: I worked till midnight and then my mom came for me after a three-hour nap for church, lol. I put on a white coat, over a brown and blue plaid ruffle prairie dress, which was thrown over my floral work leggings, for brightness. And just ran out. Into the rain!!

Ran out with the thought that this is the last time this dress will be worn: my weight is constant, but oddly my shape is not. My weight keeps moving higher up my body. I'm a little round ball on toothpicks now. Lol!

What Sterling said. I also always got new dresses for our girls.
As a grownup, when I didn't have to work on Easter Sunday, it was more of a struggle to do something springy but not pastel per se. Also the weather would be so variable, might be too chilly for a dress. So I'd need a " cold spring " and warm weather option.
I got pretty underwhelmed about it's really mattering but it's still fun if I can create just the right outfit.

Interesting ... Cat, if you don't mind sharing, I would be intrigued to know what country or region you are from.

In my part of the US, I can't say that there ARE any Easter colors. It's hard to tell, since Easter coincides with Spring, so spring colors and flowers are everywhere as a matter of course. Little children at church on Easter Sunday might be dressed in pastels (if their mother is into that sort of thing!), but apart from that, there is no real shift in how people dress related to Easter. Even the custom of a new outfit for the day has gone away sometime during my lifetime, at least for my peers.

Sterling has reminded me of the tradition of having a new outfit for Easter. I had completely forgotten that. I also remember wearing white for Whitsun, but that, too, has gone by the board, both the name of the Holiday - now known as Spring Bank Holiday - and the white clothing.

While I don't wear any particular Easter colours, I do like to bring in beautiful spring flowers - especially daffodils - to decorate the house.

Happy Easter!

Yes agree with Sally about the weather. Easter is typically the "last big summer holiday weekend" in NZ ( heard that very quote on the radio the other day) but this year we had Cyclone Cook on the Thursday. But often beaches, swimming are still a go, and camping in tents. Not so great this year for it. So that is our other vibe- as well as chocolate and Hot Cross Buns and religious ceremonies- holiday time!

Interesting, I concur with Jenni with the typical approach to Easter. In addition Hot Cross Buns are very popular too.

I do not decorate my house at all- I went to dinner at a friend's place on Friday and she had some basket of eggs around.

Easter, if I am home, is when I typically start feeling as though summer is over. Of course it is late this year - some years when in March we can be on the beach swimming and sunbathing. We were this time the last three years - this year we have been sheltering from the rain and trying to rebuild a fence!!

I do think of Easter colors as light pastels. Same as spring colors used to be before the rules changed. Now that my hair is gray I feel very washed out in them so I won't be wearing them.

I never wear yellow, but do wear lighter colors in Spring and Summer. I just bought myself 2 pink tops. I haven't worn pink in ages because I could never find a shade that looked great on me. The soft colors I found this year are perfect.

This is the outfit I'm planning to wear to church on Easter. Not pastels, obviously.

The second picture is the sum total of my Easter decorations, on the dining table. The small eggs are around 100 years old, collected by my grandfather. I don't have any idea what kind they are. The big eggs are filled with confetti, from Walmart.

When I think of Easter, I think of soft pastel colors that include yellow, green, blue, and pink (all in equal measure). These colors not only reflect Easter, they reflect Spring.

We do decorate with those colors, but more often, Easter is about Church, community, and Easter dinner for us. When I was younger we each got a new dress every single Easter in a pastel color of our choosing. It was a very special event.

Today I wear bright colors (as opposed to pastels). I just feel more confident in brighter colors. Still pink though.

That's really interesting! In New Zealand we have no Easter colours at all. It is not Spring here, it is Autumn, and the main tradition about Easter is just the chocolate for the pagan side of it, and the religious days for the religious side of it. We close shops still on Good Friday and Easter Day, although with the decreasing proportion of the population who are Christian that will likely change soon. We do get a holiday for 4 days but shops are only open Saturday and Monday except in tourist areas. Are your colours because it is a spring festival?

In my part of the world, yellow is THE Easter colour, often mixed with light or clear green or perhaps white or soft neutral earth colours. Around Easter it is very popular to decorate homes, especially tables, in these colours, and yellow flowers are offered everywhere. In addition, fashion magazines and boutiques often encourage people to wear yellow clothes. Nevertheless, few yellow clothes are actually seen in the streets, in offices and in parties.

In my experience, if someone is wearing yellow clothes around Easter, she will often get positive, appreciating remarks even from strangers. However, many people will also say things like "you remind me of Easter", "you look like an Easter flower", or even "you make me think of an Easter chicken".

It would be interesting to know about the customs in other parts of the world. How is it where you lIve? Are certain colours considered to be "Easter colours"? Are they used for decoration only, or are people encouraged to wear them too? And how do YOU feel about wearing "Easter colours"?
