Thanks ladies. I think I might need to size down in my skirts or perhaps get some of them altered. My issue is a bit different than most of yours - I have a very undefined (thick) waist so some skirts will fit the waist but then the hip area is often too loose. And since I don't have the hips to hold my skirt in place, they seem to drift up my undefined waist and move around so I am constantly having to pull skirts down or adjust . This seems to be more of an issue with pencil skirts or skirts with a thin waistband whereas skirts with a wide waistband or dropped waist section work better since they are tighter around my tummy. I just never even considered trying to size down!

Almost always! Definitely when the skirt is fuller (because I'm pear-shaped and my waist is much smaller than my hips) but even sometimes in a pencil skirt.

My dresses, pants and skirts all tend to be the same size, assuming that the sizing is consistent. JCrew is one of those places where sizing varies so wildly that I have clothing from them that ranges from size 0 to size 8. It certainly makes internet shopping a challenge!

90% of the time I take a size smaller in skirt than in jeans. More often than not it is because of the fit at the waist. Even then I have to take the waist in a few inches... ughh.

If the skirt is more a-line than straight, I could see getting it to fit the waist because there is more leeway in the hip area. I've done something that probably isn't considered a good idea. I have several skirts in at least a size larger than I need so that they drop lower on my waist and I get more length. I don't want the above-the-knee lengths that are prevelent. This trick lets them fall on the knee, a more comfortable length for me. It only works when you don't have darts or pockets or other trim that might end up too low.

My dress size is usually smaller than my pants, and my pants are smaller than my jeans. Skirts are between my dress and my pants size, depending on the cut.

Shana, I often put clients in a smaller skirt size and a bigger dress size relative to their pants size. Weird.

Tricky question. I take a pretty consistent 27 in jeans, which is supposedly equivalent to a 4. But in non-denim pants, I usually take 2 for some reason. This is true across all brands. My Ann Taylor Loft pants are a 0, which is ridiculous. They must have run huge.

For skirts and dresses, I'm all over the place. I have 0's, 2's, and 4's in my closet. I can say for certain that I would NEVER wear a 0 in jeans and pants though...well other than that wild card pair from ATL. It's a skirts-only thing. Perhaps it's because thigh and rise measurements don't come into play with skirts?

I know that size is just a number but I generally grab the same size in skirts that I wear in pants. But recently, I noticed that most of my skirts in my pants size seem too loose and shift around. Do people generally size down when it comes to skirts? Is there another fix for the skirt shifting around (sometimes mine will make a full circle around my body). I seem to recall at least a couple of ylf members mentioning this but I am not sure....
