Late to the party here, and I’m a huge fan of blazers. As I near retirement in the next 5 years or so, I probably shouldn’t buy any more but I wear one once or twice a week. I just returned from a professional conference and took 2 for 6 days and wish I’d brought another! While covid casualized my office I love how a blazer - along with shoes and jewelry- takes my bootcut jeans to a cool and polished place. I don that look twice a week. I’m a big yes!

Yes! All year round! All of my blazers are fully lined (a deal breaker for me if they're not). In the spring and fall, I wear blazers as coats, sometimes with scarves and gloves. In the summer, they're great to ward off the chill of the AC. In winter, they're great for layering with a winter coat on top. I like how chic and sharp they look. Only my black blazers have matching pants/skirts to make a suit. The other blazers are comfortable and easy to pair with jeans, pants or some skirts.

I am about to post about my latest blazer. I have always liked blazers, from my first navy blue as a senior in high school, to my current ones, although I don't wear most of them often. Blazers were so perfect for me over the years. Now my changing body is making it more difficult, but I think I will keep on wearing them anyway. My husband gets his blazers altered until they are perfect. I guess I've been lucky that I've been able to wear them so easily.

I definitely enjoy a blazer from time to time. But I probably wear my moto jackets a little more. For years I wore a black blazers a lot and have needed a new one for a long time, but tbh I can't really get motivated to spend the $$ on one, so I'm thinking I may hang it up!

This one is my current obsession: https://www.saksoff5th.com/pro.....0020472194. I bought it at full price, probably the most expensive piece of clothing I've ever bought, so I'm trying to wear it a lot...I wear it with Ecru jeans. (And um, I did try the shorts on...they were so dumb looking, lol!!)

Sloper- Oh I had a black velvet blazer at one time too, the 70s, 80s and 90s were great decades for blazer wearing
Staysfit- Finding blazers with the right fit & style can be a challenge, sounds like you’ve sorted out what suits you best.

I still have many blazers and go through phases where I enjoy wearing them. At other times I prefer longer cardigans or a leather jacket. I am not a fan of jean jackets. For whatever reason, I do not suit cropped jacket lengths unless paired with a dress and maybe not then either.
Blazers work well in my professional world where I try to be a bit polished, without looking business formal or overly intimidating. A blazer worn over more casual jeans and a tee often creates the perfect balance. It’s a good substitute for a doctors white coat, which I have not used since I finished my training.

I prefer my blazers long or hip length but not too oversized. I am particular in preferring that the lower inner edges of the button placket be sharp not rounded, or possibly cut away at a sharp angle (also not rounded). I have learned from past errors that blazers with rounded edges sit idle in my closet.

I do love them, but have eliminated most of them. I no longer work, and they don’t fit my current and future lifestyle.

Fond memories, though! The black velvet blazer I craved in high school in the 70’s (my glam rock era). A Liz Claiborne blue madras plaid with a menswear-ish stripe lining in the 80’s. A navy gabardine DKNY suit (with tailored shorts) - very 90’s! I wore it to the Russian Tea Room in NYC. And some very nice Dana Buchman work suits in the aughts.

Needless to say I enjoy trips down fashion’s memory lane.

I really like blazers but have no need of them with my casual lifestyle. I do have two: a brown plaid that I need to pull out and wear in the fall, and a beautiful plum wool blazer that has matching wide trousers. I don't wear these pieces often, but I'm glad I have them.

I love blazers and they often serve as my coat in our mild Autumn/Winter. (Since my only office jobs have been in either non-profit or hi-tech I don't have workwear associations with them .) That said, I have lately been sometimes looking for more casual options when I feel my outfit is already a bit formal.

I currently own five and am not looking for any more:

1) New Navy blazer (part of a suit) added 2024
2) Second hand black tuxedo blazer - added 2023, mostly wear at night
3) Second hand cream linen blazer - added 2023, good in transitional weather
4) Second hand mustard blazer - is my most fitted, love the colour but I don't wear it a lot - added 2020
5) Soft grey blazer - new in about 2017 or 2018 - my most worn, really useful neutral colour. Still love it.

I mostly wear with jeans or pants for work, but will wear socially in the weekends as well.

Oh yes, I do! I love mine, and I own--and wear--several blazers, in various fabrics and colours. The secret is to choose ones that you find comfortable, not stiff.

I dont work in an office anymore, so I have edited out a few of my blazers. But I will always want to own a few ones. I happily wear them in video conferences as well as when I go grocery shopping or sightseeing--and for several other activities. They can effectively dress up the simplest outfit of jeans & tee, and of course they look great with simple skirts and dresses as well.

2 of my current jackets I thrifted last year, one black with interesting grey stitching, French brand, $15 including a pencil skirt which was too small for me but fitted my 32 year old schoolteacher daughter perfectly. The other was a subtle animal print, $12. I am enjoying these, I would say they are blazer-esque but softer.

I haven’t worn true blazers since the 90s Dee, I tried them back then and they always felt too formal, too stiff and not warm enough for me. Think I owned 3 at the time and all are long gone. I had been quite confused when I first joined YLF and even wrote a thread in 2017 called “Are these jackets or blazers?” to clarify. I was told none of what I was asking about were strictly blazers.
I prefer softer jackets and do wear several which have less formality than a blazer but more than woollen knitwear. I still own and wear 5 out of the 6 I asked about in 2017!

@ Carla -- yes, I passed it on. First, I wore out the pants! Well, maybe "wore out" is a bit strong -- but they had pilled extensively in the inner thighs, probably from rubbing. I will say, I don't consider this a quality issue. I wore those pants at least twice or even three times a week all last winter and spring, and and on many, many walks, so there was a lot of friction there.

As for the jacket, I wanted to love it, hoped I'd love it -- but I did not love it. Not at all. Oh, I wore it a bunch of times, though nowhere near as often as the pants. But whenever I wore it, I could not wait to get it off. I learned that I do not care for an unlined jacket in a "sticky" knit unless it is quite fitted (like my little military jacket, which works more like a top), that I reallyl want more structure in a jacket, period, and that longer blazers are not so fun for me. They don't work as well with wide legs (on me -- you are taller, so it is different!).

I've had the same two blazers for a long time; not high-wear items but I still love them! I've tried a couple times to add an oversized blazer but they don't look great on me so I stick with the same style as Angie -- shorter and fluidly tailored. I treat my blazers more as transitional season outerwear because I don't like the feeling of them layered under coats when it's colder. Switching from a merino or fleece hoodie to a wool blazer is an easy way for me to smarten up a casual outfit, but they definitely don't have the same range of motion as a hoodie does, and they are so bulky to pack. For those two reasons, they'll never rack up as many wears for me, but I'm fine with that. Denim jackets, motos, and field/utility jackets all fall into this same category for me -- "fashion toppers" I guess. :D

Yes! I love blazers and wear them all the time, mostly for work. I have been reaching for a lovely gray-ish green blazer this spring quite a lot. I also have a few more casual (unlined, cotton, oversized, from Uniqlo U) blazer-esque jackets that I wear all the time for non-work outings. I am a huge fan of layering and playing with different color combos, so blazers (and jackets and vests of all kinds, tbh) fit the bill for me.

I see that quite a few of you are still enjoying your blazers, but many don’t feel the need for them anymore.
Star - I had sourced a few blazers second hand awhile back, but alas they still sat in my closet unused, so I passed them on again.
Val- Yes the lack of any real occasion to wear them seems to be a factor.
Angie- What a fab collection of blazers.
RobinF- Glad you found that black blazer and hopefully you’ll have an opportunity to wear it again.
April,Joy, Cat2, Bijou,JAileen, Nuancedream, Bonnie, Anchie- happy to hear that blazers still have a place in your wardrobes.
ChristelJ, Kellygirl SarahD8 - I prefer truckers, chore jackets and cardigans just works better for that casual vibe.
Runcarla- Your blazer creates a great travel outfit
Suz- I think the pandemic really changed people’s wardrobe needs for good. The last time I wore a blazer myself was before the pandemic.
Roberta- no worries, love hearing the why’s in everyone’s answer. Glad you kept some irreplaceable ones just in case.

I like the look of a blazer with jeans and would wear it more if I didn’t have a problem finding a right fit. I have three in rotation - one black in thin wool, plaid double breasted linen and an unlined navy cotton. The navy is the one I rarely wear. I think it’s because I got the other ones altered in the shoulders and sleeves and they fit better.

The styles I like don’t usually come in petite sizes and these type of alterations are very expensive, so I’m limited. I’m looking for other types of jackets that are more petite friendly.

In the last photo I wear a vest over a blazer, something I do on a crisp morning.

I have three blazers. One is wool and is worn with sweaters and jeans in cool weather. The other two are lighter weight and long and are worn with tees and jeans in warm weather. They work well for my climate and dress up my jeans and toppers wardrobe.

I gave away nearly a dozen blazers after I retired, because they didn't fit with my life anymore. I kept four or five that I thought were really interesting and/or irreplaceable (all patterns). I wear them occasionally if I go out in a season where the weather allows them to be my only topper. I also went through a stretch of serious shoulder and neck pain, and found blazers to be too confining, too heavy, and just all around uncomfortable. That has since been fixed, but I still prefer cardigans and knit jackets to a traditional blazer. Sorry, very long answer to your short question!
