@Jess
Most of my belts are plain black or brown leather. Some silver buckles, some gold tone, depending on what I'm wearing. They are mostly just a little narrowing than the belt loops on my jeans.
I never wear belts with anything else, unless I'm wearing a dress that has a tie belt on it.

Jess, I love wearing belts with dresses, so I have lots of belts that I wear on my waist. I have only one more recently purchased belt in finds, but these are the sort of belts and dresses that I wear my belts with.

After reading the comments I felt like I should mention that many of my belts are basic black and brown leather belts 1- 1.5 inches wide, and although I do often need them for fit I feel that even wearing a basic belt still adds to the outfits look. I’m not big on skinny belts or any fancy buckles just something to slightly break up the outfit and basic belts aren’t so expensive so I can splurge and buy a few ;)

@anne
That’s great you finally want to add belts to your wardrobe, I think every girl should have at least one basic black and brown leather belt in their closet and they would go great with some of your pants and jeans you recently posted letting the belt be visible in the loops, let us know what you find to buy :)

@Bijou
Do you own any belts for fit, even basic leather belts can look fantastic with an outfit.

@Liesbeth
If I recall correctly you just posted a topic recently wearing belts in your belt loops and they looked and fit great on you, visually it looked nice so maybe you’ll wear them more often knowing this :)

@Fashintern
Aww you are making me blush Thank you for sweet comment about my belt collection and that it inspires you to buy more I honestly don’t think the buckles on mine are fancy they are all basic belts from various stores like Target, H&M, Gap, and American Eagle. fancy to me would be cowboy style or expensive brands like Hermès but I don’t wear those kinds of buckles. But the buckles of mine to me are visually appealing and the simple look means they match almost anything.
I think a chestnut brown would look good on you and black, both basic colors always match.
That link is most helpful for belts that don’t fit! ;)

@nemosmom
I remember you having some nice leather belts with your jeans and I think those would match any rise jean you still wear. I’m still keeping a few low rise jeans that I couldn’t part with and like how they look and feel still, you never know they might be back in style soon and I think you had the body shape and style to make them look good so maybe you might wear them again? It’s frustrating when jeans don’t fit right, if they are falling off to the point you must tightly cinch that isn’t good. Some of my jeans fit with no belt but my issue is them slightly stretching with wear over the day so a belt holds in place but not to the point is ruins the waistline look or tight cinch. Perhaps you might need to down a size in the waist.
I actually found higher waisted jeans fit looser on me than low rise as my waist is the smallest part on me and hips are my widest so low rise worked better but high rise and tucking plus a belt fixes that for me.

@Molly Mac
Do share some pictures of your belts here id love to see your collection! :)

@Beth Ann
There’s nothing worse than plumbers crack or constantly yanking up your jeans uggh. You should add a least one basic black and brown leather belt to your wardrobe, 1-1.5 inches wide strap. I love the effect tucking to show the buckle off has to enhance the outfit as well as it helping for fit.
Have you posted your outfits including.high waisted jeans tucked with a belt here, maybe extra eyes here can help and it doesn’t look bad on you after all!

@MsMaven
Definitely get yourself a basic black and brown leather belt that has a strap 1-1.5 inches wide. This will hold your jeans in place and it’s what I use. Any clothing store has them like Walmart and Target or Old Navy if you don’t want to pay much for one, or buy from your favorite brand store Tucking or half tuck will help with jean fit and show off the pretty belt

@hereforthecake
Same here what you do, what belts do you own?

@DonnaF
Love your belt collection and style and I too find belts comfortable and barely feel I’m wearing one

I rarely wear a belt; when I do, it is for fashion. I tend to like the look of a belt better with low- and mid-rise jeans (not so much with high-rise). I generally wear either leopard belts, like the Topshop one in Donna's post above, or black Western belts, with big silver hardware.

Except on my highest waist jeans, I need to wear a belt for functional reasons. With my flat seat, they otherwise tend to slide down and wrinkle on my thighs. I have a ton of belts; most are in Finds. I wear belts that are low contrast to my jeans so below is my newest one since I wanted something a bit more refined than the whiskey and cognac ones I already own.

Btw I am one of those women who rarely find belts or waistlines uncomfortable; I carry more of my weight on my hips and thighs. I also rarely have waists taken in because they are not THAT loose.

I mostly semi-tuck. It shows off the belt without too much of a horizontal line.

@MsMaven, I have the same shape as you, apparently, and for the same reason I also wear belts with jeans quite often. (I once wiped my wet hands on my jean-covered thighs once, when no towels were available, and pulled my pants right down!)

I often do a half tuck, and the occasional full tuck, and kind of like the added "finish" that wearing a belt adds.

I have to wear a belt with most lower rise jeans--if I don't the jeans eventually slide down and head for the floor. It's my body shape--fairly straight hips with more weight around the middle.

My favorite belt is a wider, softer, silver leather one I bought on sale from BR years ago. I generally don't tuck, and for me the question is which belt will hold up this particular jean the best?

I don't tend to wear a belt with high waisted jeans, since I never tuck a high rise. Most of the time, however, I do wear a woven leather belt. I like the slight peek of the belt when I semi tuck, but, importantly, my waistband stays in place better. This has become more important since I 1. have a little extra around the midriff these days and, 2. My job has been wrangling instruments, sometimes also seated on the floor with kids. In this situation, the belt keeps my jeans from doing a "plumber."

My general rule used to be that if a clothing item had belt loops, I wore a belt. As I have added more high waisted pants to my closet, I have moved away from this rule. I find belts uncomfortable if worn above my natural waist. I have a collection of about 20 belts and still enjoy wearing them with midrise jeans and pants. I like to semi tuck to show them off.

I used to have to wear belts with low-rise jeans to keep the jeans from falling off. I've purged all of my low-rise denim, so I don't always wear belts but, when I do, I wear them mostly for fashion. Most of the jeans I buy have to be taken in at the waist, and I don't like to use a belt for cinching them to fit - I really dislike the 'drawstring' effect...

I like my belts at waist level or just below.

Jess, you’ve got a great collection of belts. I intend to start wearing jeans more often, and to pick up a locally-made leather belt at a market sometime soon. I probably won’t get as cool a buckle as some of yours, but just want an honest-looking belt. I’m undecided between red and chestnut brown. I posted the three belts I have now on one of your earlier threads.

Joy, does it work for you to wear a belt around a tunic, or does that increase the short-waisted effect? What about an obi like RL mentioned?

I rarely do, because they can be uncomfortable and visually harsh. But over the past year I've seen my interest in belts rise a bit again, what with the waist definition trend and looking to add more outfit interest. Who knows what 2020 will bring?

Because all my jeans eventually seem to bag out, regardless of brand or price point, I resort to an invisibelt to keep things in place. I did recently buy a belt to wear with my very high waisted jeans, since I like to have filled belt loops when I wear cropped tops with those jeans.

Otherwise, the only times I wear belts are with some of my midi dresses, and those are wide belts that I wear at hip length. I love those and have had those belts for years—in a couple of cases, for decades!

I sometimes wear belts with jeans. My favourite is a lilac belt, which I wear wear to co-ordinate with other lilac pieces. It is more of a fashion belt (being made of links held together with elastic) and so not for the purpose of keeping my jeans up, but rather as an accent to the outfit.

i generally don’t wear belts because they tend to interfere with my digestion, but when I do, I like low contrast. I find it a slightly odd place to make a point of focal interest... sort of cuts a person in half when the contrast is high... unless you’ve got a really good buckle

Not much, apart from one elastic one that comes out occasionally. However a belt has been on my list for years - off to amend my post on 2020 shopping plans!

I like and need to wear belts for style and the finish they can give and to hold up my pants. I like to match them to bags and/or footwear or wear them in colors matching tucked tops to give the illusion that I am not as short waisted as I am. I will probably have to give up belts because they interfere with my blood glucose meter but then do not know what to wear in cold weather.

I wear Invisibelts to keep my pants up as needed, but otherwise I haven’t worn belts as fashion in a long time. I am not a tucker...too short-waisted.

I don't wear belts because I never tuck and think I do not need a belt for fashion or fit. When I used to wear belts it was for fashion.

New topic for 2020!
If you do what belts do you own and do you wear them for fit, fashion, or for both reasons? Which jeans look best worn with belts?

ETA:
After reading the comments I felt like I should mention that many of my belts are basic black and brown leather belts 1- 1.5 inches wide, and although I do often need them for fit I feel that even wearing a basic belt still adds to the outfits look. I’m not big on skinny belts or any fancy buckles just something to slightly break up the outfit and basic belts aren’t so expensive so I can splurge and buy a few
