Okay, I think I now understand that only some suits read as corporate and only if styled conservatively.

I'm hoping the suit will be available after payday *holding thumbs, crossing fingers*

Suits aren't necessarily corporate. There are so many fabrications and designs that suits go in. There are very ultrafeminine bombshell type skirt suits and there are edgier pantsuits as well.

That said, I'm not a suit girl, but I'm DEFINITELY a blazer/jacket girl. Almost everything I wear has to be topped off with something tailored. Nice tailoring just polishes the look up!

I searched earlier this year for a specifically non corporate suit. They are out there, and this is one of them. It's awesome. I hope you got it!

I love suits! And I like creating a suit look out of separates too. I also enjoy creating a suit with an unexpected silhouette. I don't think suits have to look corporate, rigid or formal unless we choose to wear them that way. How you put it together is what creates the vibe. This would look amazing on you.

Absolutely not. Suits are like any other garment and come in a wide variety of fabrics, styles, and designs. To me a corporate-looking suit is one that emulates the look of a man's suit. Dark colors, conservative designs, smooth worsted wool fabrics, and a non-body conscious cut tend to give the wearer a serious, let's-get-down-to-business look. But there are tons of other skirt/trouser/jacket designs that would be wildly inappropriate in a corporate setting. A very fitted, bright blue jacket and skirt made of a satiny fabric in a fashion-forward cut would be quite another story.

IMO, even a "corporate" suit would look non-corporate if you substituted a lace cami for the shirt, exchanged the pumps for stilettos, added a pile of jewelry, and scrunched the sleeves. Unless you owned the company, it probably wouldn't be the best look for a female executive at 9 a.m. in most boardrooms.

I think it all depends on HOW you wear the suit and what you pair it with. Take a typical navy suit and wear it with your typical white button down shirt, sensible black loafers and a sensible handbag and yes, it is corporate wear.

Take that same suit, pop a sparky tank underneath the jacket and wear it either untucked or tucked and with an animal print belt, a pair of fabulous coloured or printed booties and a gorgeous, modern clutch and presto, not so corporate.

I used to love wearing suits to work, then got away from them and have recently been thinking about them again, but in a more modern context. This one you've linked to Julie is positively GORGEOUS and would look beyond stellar on you.

Ultra conservatively styles navy, black or charcoal suits with white button downs suggest corporate. I like them because they make me feel confident, ready to conquer the world. Velvet is not a typical material for the boardroom. It's more romantic. The equestrian style makes it sporty. This is not coeporate at all. However you label it, it's awesome.

P.s. I'm wearing an animal print suit today and no one confused me with a corporate drone suits can be fun!

I don't think of corporate as necessarily bad, it's just a particular environment. For me yes, suits are corporate, because I rarely see anyone wear one who works in a casual or business casual environment. That doesn't mean that you can't if you want, or find a livelier interpretation of a suit to work in your corporate environment. And I really like this suit, it's interesting.

I think this has changed in the past decades - there were a lot more suits worn everyday by both men and women. I am thinking of the sewing patterns that I always find for sale from the 60s, with a Jackie O esque collarless jacket and straight skirt.

I think a corporate suit can be anything that creates a cohesive outfit provided that the fit is appropriate for your work environment.

My pinterest boards are full of fun suits - and corporate suits that look fun to me too. I LOVE suits - trouser suits in-particular. They are modern. That's why I bought a suit in Japan!

I hope you get this one, Jules. You would look *amazing* in it.

This is beautiful, Julie. It would look stunning on you in this colour. I hope you are able to get it. At least the jacket. I hope the rest, too.

Well, you know from my earlier thread that I do not view suits as corporate at all. I don't even see the "corporate" ones as too corporate, at least if they are styled with flair. And suits like this one really don't read as corporate at all; this probably wouldn't be suitable (so to speak) in a very conservative business environment, with the vivid colour and slim trousers.

Now, WHY did you have to show me this link???

Great suit!

There are definitely non-corporate suits, like this one. But it's true, when I talk about suits I don't mean this kind of suit. This is more a "jacket/pants set" to me.

That is a gorgeous blazer! I don't think all suits are corporate at all - especially the bright colour of the blazer. I wear suits all the time to casual events because I have a huge soft spot for them. Blazers are so versatile and can make an outfit instantly classier. Please, please get the ASOS blazer. I guarantee that you will be pleased.

I work in a formal field and yet view suits as fun. I love the romantic equestrian vibe of this one and the colour too and could see it being worn on all types of occasions.

I have noticed many comments on the forum about suits being too corporate, formal or rigid. Do you feel this way about suits and if so are there any exceptions?
