Mochi, thanks for introducing me to Gary Graham. I had never heard of him, but I now I have a new designer to admire!
Did you see his other designs that also have dark mesh overlays?see next .
Effect over white:
The next pic suggests you could layer the mesh over a big floral design - pattern mixing, yay!
Here are some basic underdress styles that may work, if Vix’s dress doesn’t work out. I think these are all made of that stretchy matte knit nylon. I also think the underdress could be a lot longer than the overlay, and still look good. Do show us what you come up with…

Hi Mochi --

Long story short, I think one of my few "closet relics" has a piece to it that may be exactly what you need -- though it may still be a bit too sheer to wear under a super-sheer dress and you may need to nip it in.

Free if you want to try it.

Details: it's a black "skinner tank strap" style underlayer made from an unknown but fairly opaque woven synthetic (came with a bias cut silk dress from Saks). Darts for the bosom; 38" long; 10" from top of shoulder to lowest armhole point; when laid FLAT ~ 20-21" wide at what I'm guessing would be the hip point.

PM me if you want more info or a snap.

Ah ok, I was thinking along the lines of a slip, which looks quite like what you posted but I see your point, don't mind me The tunic looks quite sheer, that's something I would keep in mind too, especially if you want to wear it alone.

Well, I feel pretty strongly that I don't want to be walking around in public in lingerie, heh. Unless it's pretty dang demure and pretty. So my idea of going for some kind of dress with inobtrusive sleeves or straps, or a top and skirt....I will do a little more investigating. The web has not been helpful in terms of googling designer and "sheer dress"...or even just "sheer dress". A lot of young women are wearing these see-through dresses with skimpy underthings. Yikes!

Hi, Zap. No, if anything I would order something to wear underneath first, because I think with the ebay dress you get only two weeks to return. But thanks for your point. It does seem like a lot of money. I gave up on this dress a while back but was just thinking about it again today. The woman at Intimacy (chichi lingerie store in Boston) didn't have anything good on hand and recommended I look at Needless Markup. I am still thinking Nordies, maybe a sleeveless top and a simple drapey skirt in a close color.

This is the same designer, and obviously a different dress completely but similar in its being sheer and having a challenging neckline. The woman found a very inobtrusive vintage slip to go underneath. Though I'm not liking how it's differently lengthed and that grinning effect shows up at the bottom, at the neckline at least it looks very inconspicuous and pretty.

Ummm, ok, this is the cheapo in me talking now.

I think $150 is a lot of money for the Eileen Fisher tunic. I have seen stuff that is similar at H&M, Zara, Gap, you name it, for lots less. I know it is silk and all, but that's a lot of moola for an underlayer.

Did you get the ebay dress? Why don't you bring it to the meetup and we'll help you find an underlayer.

Hi. I'm not sure I'm getting you...you mean pick something simpler on top? The thing is, I'm trying to work around the outer layer, not the other way around. I know it's a huge challenge. Just a thought at this time. It's a difficult dress and I'm not in a hurry to buy it, but not yet ready to write it off either.

Neat looking dress, but it seems a simpler cut would layer better. My own mesh layered LBD has an asymmetrical neckline that can make choosing a necklace and/or jacket a little trickier, even though the rest of the dress is a basic black tank/sheath.

Hi, fabulous fabbers! I feel like I haven't been around much suddenly...even now I am procrastinating a bit on some work to write this....hope you all are doing great!

Anyway, this is in reference to a recent post about an ebay item I was considering, a sheer mesh dress. (Pic 1) The original post is here too:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-this-time

I just saw a Nordies dress that might work, and would likely be a good tunic/dress to own anyway:

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/ei.....sultback=0

For the particular sheer dress, though, concerns are 1. Competing necklines? And of course bra straps, since I have a large bust and therefore never get away with those skinny straps. Maybe I could get my first strapless bra, who knows.

Also do you think the overlayer would look better with either the gray or black? I tend to want the gray since I'm at the age where black may be getting too harsh, I happen to like gray a lot anyway, and also I am worried about the fine details being lost if the layer underneath is black. But sizewise, I'm not sure if I can size down into a medium (large gray/graphite is not in stock).

Anyway, thanks for your advice.
