Hmm, Angie, my minimum for boots and other everyday shoes is that I be able to walk two miles on city streets and cobblestones in them, because that is how much I walk during my commute every day. The only exception I would be willing to make are for dressy boots, which these are not. So you are right, the heel will probably be too high for me. =( Since 6pm's returns are such a hassle in my opinion, I think I am going to hold off unless I can find a similar style to try in person. Or if they go REALLY on sale, then it will be OK for them to be only occasional shoes.

Atlantia, I put two inserts - a hard dress orthotic AND a soft foam insert - into almost every pair of shoes I own. It's helped a great deal but I do still get foot pain from some shoes.

I don't mean to get you nervous. I just felt compelled to tell you my experience and hope that's okay.

I find Docs really comfy - always have - which is why I am willing to break in the iconic styles that require breaking in. The Saras were my first heeled Docs and blast!! The balls of my feet hurt after a few hours because they are just too high :(. The shoe itself is very cushioning, supportive and comfortable. And well made. Great price for that level of workmanship. They are also quite heavy, because Docs are usually heavy shoes, and that may have contributed to the high heel problem.

Long story, I need lower heels because I do a LOT of walking. You might not need the lower heel, Diana.

I love my Saras, but that love only started after I stuck my custom orthotics in there. I thought before I could only wear heels up to 2" but now find that as long as I have proper arch support I can go up to 3.5". The Sara for me fit a bit large in the forefoot, especially when wearing with tights rather than socks. That meant less support, which translated into discomfort. Once I slipped my dress shoe orthotic (very slim) into the shoe, it changed everything.
Just another perspective on heel height from someone with fussy feet.

OK, so Angie has gotten me nervous about the heel height. My BC booties have a 3" heel but the platform is 1.25", a good .5" more than on these docs.

Thing is, I LOVE this heel/boot shape. Does anyone have any recommendations for something in a similar shape with a lower heel or higher platform? Doesn't have to be leopard, but should come in something other than black or dark brown.

I confess, I bought these a little while back. Great sale, and I couldn't resist even though I have the Matisse animal print booties. I figured these have such a different vibe I could justify it.

I haven't worn them out and about yet (not the season!) but they feel very much like the Sara's to me. Granted, my feet are not fussy, and the Sara's are 8 hour shoes for me easily. IIRC, I got them in my usual size 8.

Oh, dear... perhaps I should rethink this then. How exactly are they uncomfortable? Sometimes I wonder about the correlation between heel height and foot pain. While it's true that a lot of too-tall-for-me heels give me ball of foot pain, the worst such pain I've ever had came from my almost-flat Frye Carsons. No amount of inserts fixed it, so I ended up selling them. So I don't know...

ETA: when I get home I am going to measure my BC platform booties. I think they are around the same height as these but they have a higher platform.

I gave my Saras to a friend, not because of heel height but difficulty styling them well. That's why I asked about bookending with these. I do think you could rock 'em!

Ah, yes! I know - which is why I brought it up :)

My Saras don't get nearly as much wear as they should because they ended up being too high. My feet have become fussier and Inge found exactly the same thing happening to her with her Saras :(

Seeing as we have a similar heel height requirement, I thought I would bring it up.

Hmm, Angie, if the measurements online are correct, the 3/4" platform makes it only an effective heel height of around 2.5" which I should be able to do if the soles are sufficiently cushy. They're docs, with good soles, so I'm hopeful. Although ideally, I'd like it to have 1/2" more platform!

PS- Angie, it's the same heel as on the Sara.

I think they'll work like a nude shoe. The darker front sole and dark laces should help with that, too. I really like them!

ETA: I always size down in Docs from 8.5 to 8 (UK6), and that's even with my long toes.

Shannon, I'm not sure any of the stores near me that sell Docs have this heeled style, but I will take another look. It would be nice to try some on first.

Una, I *think* these are dark enough with the spots that it's OK for bookending. And I think the golden tone background might actually be nude on me. I don't have any camel boots at the moment but I used to and did not find it an issue... as long as it's warm toned, I think it's OK.

These are gorgeous Diana! I would think they'd actually act somewhat like a neutral due to the colouring (that's how my Doc Danielle animal print shoes work). I normally wear a 6.5 in shoes but always size down 1/2 size for Docs so end up getting the UK4. Is there anywhere local you can try on a similar style in Docs to at least be more sure of the sizing?

I have been thinking about these for a while. Do you think I could pull them off? I'd wear under bootcuts or over skinnies, as well as with skirts/dresses.

Also, does anyone have sizing tips? They are the Darcie style. Normally I am between sizes in Docs so I have to go up to the UK6 because my toes hit the front of the UK5. With traditional docs, my narrow/low feet are swimming so they've never worked for me. I'm hoping that this style is more snug. They are from 6pm, which is really annoying for returns so I don't really want to have to exchange or return unless it's necessary. ETA: I think this is the same footbed as on the Sara oxfords that many of you have... how is the sizing on those?

ETA: Also, how does this type of hairy leather finish wear?
