I had to size down in Gap perfect bootcut jeans in the lighter wash. My darker wash in Perfect Bootcut, and always straight are my usual size.

I think you should try a 10 and a 12 and see which stretches out the least. Have you compared your measurements (i.e. hip and waist) to the size charts for the various Gap jeans?

Can you post pics of both sizes? It's very hard to make an assessment without visuals, I find. If the 10 fits you well (e.g., snug but comfortable), then I would size down, but not if you are only sizing down on the expectation that they stretch out a certain amount in order to be comfortable, then I would stay with the 12...
Maybe ask the Gap salesperson as they will have the most familiarity with styles and stretch factors...

The ones I want to get are the Always Skinny. (I tried on the Real Straights and found I preferred the fit of the Always Skinny.)

So what do you think--stay TTS or size down in these?

As it's been said, it depends. I'm a size 6 in Gap's legging jeans, but a size 4 in the Long and Lean.

What other Gap styles are you wanting to try?

Agree that the Gap jeans vary a *lot* from style to style. I used to love the Curvy jeans, and sized down in those. I found their trouser style jeans on the small side.

The Regular length is usually perfect for me - I like a 31" - 32" inseam.

IMHO, I would buy the ones that fit perfectly. You can adjust the size a little with your washing and drying techniques! : >

I have a pair of long and lean in a 6 and they are too big in the waist. I have another pair in a 6 (straight or trouser) that are quite fitted. I tried on the skinny and could squeeze into a 6 but thought they were too tight.

I also went with a friend and one pair of 10s was snug but the pair she bought was an 8 and they fit perfectly. I've also found L to be about the same as a regular pair and other longs that are very long. All in the same style and wash. Gap really needs some quality control standards for sizing.even within the same style.

Which style are you looking at? I would stay TTS in the jeggings, size down in Long and Leans.

Boy, I think "size down" is all relative. Gap isn't quite as bad as Old Navy, but it seems to me that the jeans vary somewhat pair to pair. They also run pretty big. At other stores, I often wear a 6 or even an 8, but at Gap/Old Navy, I am usually a 4. The jeans do stretch out a little bit, so I buy the smallest size that I can comfortably zip (pretty snug).

I just bought a pair of Gap Perfect Boots--thinking of YLF, I chose the lighter wash! I love them. The wider waistband is very flattering and comfortable, and the fit is nice. I tried on every pair in the store that they had in my size to find the best fit. (The waist was larger on one, one ran a bit smaller overall, etc.)

I feel like I've asked a zillion questions about Gap jeans, but I just don't want to waste my money! So...is it wise to size down when you buy them? Right now the 12 Forever Skinny fits perfectly. Do I buy that size, or size 10?
