I reorganized my clothes last night and was pleased to find that I don't have nearly as many "too casual for campus" clothes as I thought! It's amazing how even though there aren't that many, they kept jumping out at me while I was trying to decide what to wear. However I will have to reorganize when my summer job starts, and a lot of the currently ok clothes will suddenly become too casual for work.

Since the beginning of the year I've stopped buying clothes that are too casual to be part of a business casual outfit (loosely defined) and am hoping that in time I won't need to separate my clothes as much!

I have my loungewear, underwear and exercise clothes in separate drawers.

Jewelery, belts and scarfs are in separate baskets and shoes are in transparent plastic boxes.

I hung up the rest separate by Top / bottoms and then by colors. I work in a bussiness casual environment and my work clothes and weekend clothes are the same.

Oh yes Kate I do, I find once I have worn an item to the office a few times it becomes part of that capsule and then feels to formal to be worn smart casually. I guess it's because my look is more eclectic outside of the office.

I have work clothes hanging in a section of my wardrobe, it's a very small capsule, one pair of microcheck skinnies, one skirt, one pair of black non denim skinnies and then the coordinating tops. In my defense I only work part time so have all of the business clothing I presently need.

In terms of storage, I have a large plastic box in which I store my jeans, a plastic box in which I store my knits, I have a drawer for camis, a drawer for belts, a chest for handbags and all of my wovens are hung in the wardrobe. I'm short of hanging space so this is my best solution at present.

Good luck Kate reorganising your wardrobe.

I do separate my not-outside-the-house clothes from everything else, but beyond that I don't separate my work and weekend wear. They are not distinct enough and overlap quite a bit.

My pajamas and workout wear are in a dresser, and all of my other clothing (including belts, scarves, and bulky necklaces) are stored very neatly in my walk in closet. I don't separate by casual or dressy or work because I try to wear most things 100% of the time.
Which means naturally my "weekend" clothing is a bit more dressy because I typically just dress down "work" clothes.
This summer I'm going to buy a couple of nice quality v-neck tees that I can wear with pencil skirts and dressy sandals for work, or with shorts for the weekend.

Well I don't work, so I don't have 'work clothes'. I do have jammies in one drawer, workout clothes in another, and layering tops like tees and tanks (which I also wear as jammies or workout wear)- in another. Those are the things that I wouldn't leave the house dressed in except to go to the gym.

My work/exercise clothing is also kept in a drawer where it's easy to grab and separated from better things in the closet or separate drawers for better layering pieces and Sweet Pea tops.

Yes, that sounds very organized Kate. My clothes are kind of separated like that, but since I don't work out of the home, my categories are a less defined. Something like: gear; really old painting and slobbing around clothes: fancy going out clothes; and MOTG/teaching clothes.

That's an excellent idea, Kate. Separate the loot as much as possible. I keep my loungewear, underwear, socks and exercise stuff in drawers and the rest hung up or folded in my walk in wardrobe.

I just spent the majority of my day today sorting out my clothes into categories and putting each away separately. I've been long overdue for a clean out and its been a pain the past two weeks to fumble through everything to get ready for work....i know this coming mornings are going to be a lot easier now..

I keep my nice clothing and layering tees/camis hung in the closet and the rest of my stuff (workout clothing, loungewear, etc) in drawers. It's nice because I can just go into my closet in the morning and pick out something to wear without having to fish through all sorts of stuff.

Recently I've been looking through drawers or my closet when getting dressed in the morning, and finding myself constantly evaluating which clothes are nice enough for school/work, and which clothes I can "get away with" on days where I barely leave my house. I feel like I'm wasting time re-evaluating what is good for the day ahead and what needs to be saved for a different type of day.

Currently, I keep my "low status" clothes (sweats, workout wear, painting clothes) in a separate drawer so that I only look at and think about them when I want to. I'm considering making further distinctions, with "medium status" (casual t-shirts, ribbed tanks, casual shorts) and "high status" (anything I could wear to work, and nicer) clothes kept separate.

I could still wear "high status" clothes on more casual days, but it would prevent me from even considering wearing "medium status" clothes to work/school. Thoughts?
