Yes, I do. Not just for lack of storage space, but for "confusion" reasons. LOL. I just find it distracting to have clothes that I don't wear hanging around ( pun intended). I also really like storing my wools so that moths don't get at them.

When I had more closet space I would either put a sheet or some sort of divider in the closet.

I do but wish I didn't, so would be less likely to forget. Ive about worked it down to swapping out only weather extremes"-- sleeveless tops/ sandals traded for wool sweaters/ boots. I'm working toward a more season- less wardrobe, which was not so intuitive for me because we do have 4 seasons here. But, I'm trying to have fewer items for the hottest and coldest weeks, and learn more about how I might layer or make do with fewer items. For example, layer tights under my tropical wool slacks and have fewer pairs of winter - only slacks.

Point is, I'm trying to get to where I have as much of my wardrobe as possible in my own( shared with DH) closet and particularly all items that might reasonably be worn much of the year.

I have a medium-sized closet and a small-to-moderate (I think) quantity of clothes. They all fit into my closet, with the exception of my coats, which live in the front hall downstairs. I don't have to put anything into storage, but I do rotate things seasonally to some degree, in that the upper shelves of my closet are way out of my reach and that's where the seasonally inappropriate stuff goes. I put heavy sweaters/ski gear up there all summer. In the winter that's where my shorts, sundresses and cropped pants go. Tee shirts stay down year-round because in the winter they are for layering. Same goes for jeans, although the ones with a heavier fabrication stay at the bottom of the pile in summer. Also, I put my light cotton summery skirts, which are hanging up, toward the back of the closet once the weather cools down, and I pull my wool skirts toward the front.

I live in a four season climate - winters well below freezing and summers can reach 100F. Combine that with a small closet I share with my husband. Not a walk in closet, a regular 6 foot closet.

Because of this, I do change out for fall/winter and spring/summer. Some items span all 4 seasons, others hang around a little longer.

As other posters have mentioned, this is when I do my purge. What didn't get worn from the season ending, what may not fit my current style or taste for the upcoming season.

I have mildish winters & very hot summers so I need coats & linens - I have a very small wardrobe & a small portable wardrobe with a canvas cover. In summer my coats & boots live in the portable wardrobe & in winter my linen clothes & sandals live there - everything else is always out.

I don't think i have a big wardrobe but I still rotate my wardrobe with the seasons. We also have cold winters so big warm coats take a lot of place and need to be storaged during warmer seasons.
Also I like to see what is 'available ' for me to dress each day, so I preferto hang most of the things and leave very little in the shelves.
Shoes are in another storage because I don't like to have in the bedroom but even so I change their 'positions' according to season.

I switch out (in fact, just did the summer/fall switch, or part of it anyway) and I agree with Henley that it can be fun to have a 'new' wardrobe. We don't have extreme seasons so I could probably wear the same thing 9 months out of the year, but that's boring imo.

As far as shoes I usually move the sandals to farther away and the boots closer at some point in the fall, but I have enough shelves in my closet for shoes that I don't actually have to put anything away in a box or whatever. The out-of-season hanging clothes go to the far end of the closet, and the folded clothes come out of the dresser and go in a few rubbermaid bins that go in the back of the closet.

I have a very small closet. ~4 linear feet, one rod. We have four distinct seasons here and it can be 10 degrees in February and 100 in August. I have two wardrobes: spring/summer and fall/winter. There are some things like lightweight wool blazers, tank tops, and a few pair of shoes that stay out all year.

I've been debating on whether to try to move toward more items that are year 'round clothes, but wonder if I'll get bored with them if I do that. It is kind of fun to open a box (in my case) of off-season clothes and find items you forgot you had.

Thank you -- I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has to switch things around! I have my own closet, but it's small. There's a double rod, the top one for for tops, blouses, sweaters, and then I put jeans and short skirts on the bottom. I have a tiny rod 2/3 down, after some shelves, for hanging long pants, skirts, and dresses.

I'm one of the long-term unemployed, so after years of telecommuting and then not working full-time after that, I have mostly stay-at-home/errands/hang out with friends type of clothes. But I also have nicer blouses, skirts, jackets, etc, for interviews, and because I struggle with the lifestyle issue of wanting dressier clothes than jeans and T-shirts. This amounts to having something like two separate wardrobes.

I'm hoping once I find a full-time job, I can weed out a lot of the home clothes, and indulge in more of the dressier clothes. It's the not knowing what I will need that prevents me from doing a big weed-out at this point. As I go through things today, I am taking out the things I truly no longer love, but I hope one day to get to a closet where I can keep nearly everything in it all year round.

We have very distinct seasons, too, and I swap several items in my wardrobe every Spring and Autumn. But I always keep a few tanks and sweaters year round, and a lot of my clothes span all seasons. I feel that this routine helps me see everything with a critical eye regularly, and it is also nice to find old garments after the seasonal absence that feels like new again.

I keep all my clothes in one 4 foot closet and my dresser (jackets in a separate coat closet). I don't switch out seasonally. I like seeing it all in one place and always knowing what I have. Besides, I may wear a tank even in December, if I layer it, to go out. I might need a sweater in July after the sun sets and the temps drop. It also helps to keep the amount of clothing down if I keep it all in one contained spot.

I have my own closet, not a walk in, but fairly big, probably 9 linear feet. I switch out in spring and fall and some things stay all year. Gala formal clothes, a few sweaters and shoes that I might need in all seasons...it's kind of fun actually, you cull the old stuff and find 'new' thing....but a big job, takes a whole day easily, as you have to launder and try everything on

I rotate my clothing seasonally, but aside from my boots, I usually don't bother to do so with my shoes. I think hot pink flats could be a great transitional shoe - especially if your fall clothing tends to be much darker than your spring/summer wardrobe. A hot pink pop of colour can help fend off the cold(er) weather blahs.

We have four very distinct seasons here and I completely swap out my closet in spring and again in fall. My bedroom closet holds what I'm currently wearing and out of season clothing and footwear gets stored in a cedar closet downstairs. Besides, our 50 year old house has very small bedroom closets so there is no way there would be room for everything.

I have far too many clothes and I rotate my closet twice a year, in October and April. I take this opportunity to edit my wardobe and cull items that I didn't wear that season. I store my off season shoes in bins.

I often buy clothing at the end of season sales so when I rotate my closets, it's a bit like Christmas!

I rotate. I have only part of our bedroom closet (share with hubby) and I am not talking about a walk in closet...it's just a six foot rod with a couple of shelves above. So he gets half and I get the other half. And we store our out of season clothes in a hall closet. I make two big switches (fall/ spring) but also some smaller trade-outs for winter and summer. It works well for me because it becomes an occasion to closet edit. If I'm in doubt, I usually leave the item for a few weeks and move it into the other closet if it becomes clear I won't wear it. For example, I might leave my hot pink flats in the closet for fall, but switch them to the other closet when real boot season came upon me.

I'm trying it this year for the first time, mostly because I have too many clothes and everything gets crushed in my closet. I can't tell you how many times I've had to dryclean or iron something just because it was smushed among the other clothes.

Last weekend I took out my summer clothes -- obviously summery skirts and tops, sundresses, and sandals. I bought two of those plastic storage bags (the package said 'chests') and store those in an old cedar chest that belonged to my grandmother. I can't stand the smell of clothes that are stored in the chest (mothballs) so the plastic was necessary.

I plan to do the same with my winter stuff next spring. I am only packing away the extremes -- for instance, I have many tanks that I will wear under sweaters etc., so those stayed in my closet.

I still have too many clothes, but at least I can see them now.

Hot pink flats might be more 'springy', but depending on your style they could work for fall/winter too. I think nude pumps can work in winter wit the right outfit since to me it's a neutral color.

I rotate my closet too (we all do at home) and store away the clothes in boxes. I only store away some summer dresses and tops (summer or sinter tops). Bottoms (like jeans, shorts and skirts) stay in the closet all year round (even white pants) and so do boots, other shoes and coats, jackets and blazers (ALL OF THEM). Thinking about it, I don't store away that much lol

I have a small closet but not that many clothes. Most things stay there all year. But I do tend to take out the bulky knits for the summer. I have taken to storing all of my shoes in clear plastic bags to keep the dust off (allergies) and I'll just ignore the sandal section till next year.

On the other hand, long pants and sleeves get moved to the back of the closet for the summer, and they are gradually working their way to the front again. Short pants will soon get banished back there, and anything else I find unworkable in cold weather. That way they are still accessible if unusual weather hits.

I don't have that many things and it all fits into my small (or normal sized I would say) closet. I don't really have storage space, so everything needs to fit into it. The only things that aren't stored there are some jackets/coats that I have in a box under the bed. My shoes are actually in the kitchen (but not visible) except the ones I'm currently wearing depending on season - those are near the door. I think I'd like to keep my wardrobe small enough so rotating isn't necessary, even if I have more storage in the future. It's a good way to keep from hoarding clothes (unless of course you want more things and are okay with that).

I have a small closet (or maybe a few too many clothes?) and every spring and fall, I have to rotate out the clothes and shoes to storage. This weekend, I'm packing up sandals, summer skirts, pastel colors, etc, and taking out wool sweaters, boots, turtlenecks.

Some things I leave out all year, like black pumps, and other things I'm not sure about. Do you wear nude pumps all year, for example, or not in winter? I think of it as a spring/summer shoe, but maybe it's more versatile?

I live in New England (cold winters) and am pretty traditional, i.e. no white after Labor Day, etc, but for nude pumps and my hot pink flats, I'm not sure. What do you do?
